lacylike Drove to the coast today to talk about the #lifeyouwantHOU @Oprah weekend. We sat together in the sand and wrote all our hopes and our vision for the next year on one slip of paper after another until we felt complete. We blessed it and then Cliff flung it into the ocean and we watched it get tossed by waves and carried right back into the shore. Felt appropriate watching all our hopes come right back to us. One more toss and then it was gone. #loveagoodritual 2d

lacylike I'm so tempted to name this a gingerbread smoothie but I'm not a fan of naming #vegan things after their dairy counterparts. Soooo I'll call it a Pumpkin Ginger Green Smoothie instead. It looks like pea soup all blended up BUT it tastes like spiced fall goodness.

If you love ginger this one is for you! And if your gut needs balancing ginger is your new bestie. Find ways to get it into your body daily!

You'll need:

1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 handful greens
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp all spice
1/2 inch piece fresh ginger (peeled) You can use less if you're still getting used to ginger.
3 medjool dates (pits removed)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 frozen banana
1 tsp vanilla extract
I used a baby kale/ spinach blend. If you're new to this whole #greensmoothie thing go for spinach, the flavor is light so you won't taste the greens in your smoothie.

lacylike This is my sweet niece, Chloe. She plays pretend and says she's going grocery shopping to get her veggies (and maca powder, true story). She passes McDonalds in the car and says "movie mommy?!" because they go to the red box in the parking lot. That's a super proud auntie moment for me! The kid has no idea what fast food is. It's so important to teach your little ones from the start about fruits and veggies!
In Central Texas where Chloe lives today 28% of kindergarteners, 44% of 4th graders, and 37% of 8th graders are overweight or obese. Seventy-five percent of obese 8th graders will become obese adults potentially leading to chronic disease and premature death. About 10 percent of children ages 2 to 5 are overweight or obese. Sobering stats. #wecandobetter and it is as simple as how you shop! buy organic fruits and veggies, eat them yourself and feed them to your little ones to teach them the power of plants. #kaleyeah

Despite all the conflicting dietary info out there carrots have always been steadfast and I appreciate that about them very much. lacylike Playing with my food again. Lately I'm feeling like eating really, really simply. It was lentils and broccoli last night for dinner. Warm rice and almond milk for breakfast today. Lunch will be sauteed kale with onion and garlic and more rice. And these beauties are going to be snack all day as I'm working.

Pomegranates are pricey and it takes a bit of an effort to get the seeds out BUT they are SO potent in the good for you department! In my opinion pomegranates are one of the foods that you NEED in your diet. Here are a few of the reasons why: - lower blood pressure and cholesterol - powerful immune support and THE MOST POWERFUL anti-oxidant of all fruits (Pom for President )
- help to reverse plaque build up in the arteries
- the juice contains phytochemicals that stimulate estrogen and serotnin receptors to help lift depression and increase bone mass (wha no more depression and stronger bones! HELLO!)
