kristenhowerton One of the things I loved most at #c21PHX was watching @soupiset illustrate notes from each talk on a white board behind the speaker in real time. While I was talking, I had to will myself not to turn around and watch. And then at the end, I got to see what he had created from my words. Love this momento. 5d

kristenhowerton We have some fun cooked up for our @beerandhymnsoc Very Special Valentine's event Feb. 15th. 5:30 optional taco bar at @boathousecollective. 7pm our usual hymns sing-along. Then around 9 we will kick into our afterparty, serving up the most cheesetastic sappy love songs we can find. If you have a bae, make it a date night! If you are single, come ready to mingle. Leave your slow-dance song requests in the comments. Remember to leave room for the Holy Spirit. 1w

kristenhowerton Dinnertime conversation with #foodiejafta 1w
  •   sarabeejensen Dude. YouTube. Henry and Jafta eat bugs. 1w
  •   raisingself Bugs aren't that bad. 1w
  •   thatgracielou Uganda they do! They catch them as they are flying out of the ground during a specific season. Pluck their wings off & pop 'em right in! 1w
  •   avacglg Cambodia! Great big tubs of fried spiders, crickets and the like. I wasn't game to try them though! They eat them like chips. 1w
  •   krs9d If you have been to Typhoon, the restaurant by the Santa Monica airport, they serve crickets. 1w
  •   geographerclare On the countries in the Amazon they catch enormous tarantula's and roast them over a fire, wrap them in vine leaves and eat them (long spindly legs an all!!!) And in rural Vietnam, they farm spiders and fry them in hot oil and eat them. Tell #foodiejafta that! Not quite bugs, but still as wriggly. 1w
  •   otjo Yup, love We love crickets and bugs here in Laos, one of the restaurants here cricket tacos 1w
  •   mooshinindy Talk to the CDC and we all do, apparently. 1w

kristenhowerton If you are looking for conversation starters to talk to kids about #MLKday, here are some book and movies you can download today! http://bit.ly/1CtWPSE 2w
  •   sara_mcnutt Yes, thank you, this is awesome! I was literally just wondering how to explain in greater depth about today to my 4 and 3 year olds. 2w
  •   lizangelo Thank you! 2w
  •   shannonkathryne Thank you for this! I watched 2 videos at bedtime with my 6 year old. 2w
  •   elicia_zahm @kristenhowerton my 8 year old is Haitian and we talk at great length about MLK and the Civil Rights movement. She doesn't yet know that he was murdered. What is an appropriate age to share that horrible truth? She is in 2nd grade and I don't want her to find out at school but don't want to scare her either..... 2w

Normal Kristen Howerton
kristenhowerton On the blog today: "It’s easy to give our kids lessons from a book, but if we really want to honor Dr. King’s dream, then diversity should be reflected in our lives. It should be reflected in our friendship circle, in our church community, and in the people we welcome into our home. Otherwise, when we talk with our children, diversity is simply a “do as I say, not as I do” concept. If we teach our children to value people of all races but don’t live a life that reflects that value, then our underlying message is that racial diversity is a merely lip service . . . something that sounds nice to say, but that we don’t really mean.

Martin Luther King Jr. paved the way for possibility . . . but if we don’t take hold of that possibility and truly be in fellowship at the “table of brotherhood” with people outside our own race, then his dream is not yet realized." Read the rest at: http://bit.ly/1xpSKLS (link in profile)

  •   tanmariegl Well said and agreed. 2w
  •   cookandbehappy I love this and everyday I seem to be questioning if we live in the right area to "do as we teach". What is your insight on showing our children diversity, when our community is not diverse. 2w
  •   hdbrons 2w
  •   pagingfunmums So beautifully said! The same thing can be said for so many lessons in life. I strive to be the best role model I can be. Lou xx 2w
