khzmr i think this was just before/after WS1. all smiles.

ALL LIESSS.

i remember constantly telling myself throughout this race that i'm going to retire from running next year. like, this one almost broke me. no more registrations, no more long distances. why do i do this to myself, i dont even know why!

but we all know internal monologues are almost always so dramatic (original : Duchesse De Nemours)

khzmr "Perhaps there’s no better act of simplification than climbing a mountain. For an afternoon, a day, or a week, it’s a way of reducing a complicated life into a simple goal. All you have to do is take one step at a time, place one foot in front of the other, and refuse to turn back until you’ve given everything you have." -- Ken Ilgunas

as always, i'll be back

khzmr i'll admit, despite the constant cramps in my calves and a sore left hip, what motivated me to finish was knowing that my favourite person was waiting for fellow runners (and me!) at the finish line. the last 200m running downhill was such a relief and seeing this very familiar face at the end made the pain go away for a little bit.
i was beaming of course, having just finished 28KM in 8 hours 45 minutes, and then having him take down my official finish time and giving me my finisher medal. best feeling at the time, no doubt.

it was also his birthday, and he gave me a medal for running this on his birthday hahaha!

khzmr extremely hot morning. one river crossing, many bridge-over-river crossings, and lots of tiny and big stream crossings. very heavy rain after WS2. narrow, steep slippery trails. never-ending uphill battle on tarmac, i hated that the most!

it was all mentally and physically challenging. the elements really got to me. never have i run in such heavy rain and muddy terrain. it was scary at times, but in this very weird way it was also very liberating.

brutal, amazing, unforgiving conditions. mad respect to those that finished 50K and 100K! i am just a small fry

khzmr I FINISHED!! the smile is a lie. well. i was smiling because i was over-the-moon that i managed to finish 28KM within the cut-off time. but it's a lie because i was aching, and tired, and hungry. was it worth it, though? YES.

heyyy Mt Kinabalu you are gorgeous, all day everyday.
