kgmc66 Happy Birthday Nana McCarthy. Seventy-five years young tomorrow. Thanks for all the self-denial that being a Mum to eight of us demanded. A kind and gentle mother too, for all the challenges .Someone whose imagination and love of books, music and history have been one of life's inspirations. My first and pre-eminent teacher. God bless you Mum xo. 6d

kgmc66 One hundred years ago this weekend. St Brigid's, Red Hill opens as the world goes to war. Duhig, Mannix and one Fr McCarthy presiding. A real sense of history there today. Well done to all concerned. Most memorable . 2w

kgmc66 To friends @s_neagle @megankateneagle @carolinethurlow ... You have all just walked in the footsteps of these men in their greatest undertaking - 8 August 1918, the Battle of Amiens. A forgotten victory . 2w

  •   colowrine Where is it? 3w
  •   kgmc66 Clockwise from top left - Brie , Bethleem Farm ( near Mesen , Belgium ) , Fouilloy ( Villers-Bx ), Cite Bonjean ( Armentieres ) , Villers-Bretonneux ( Australian National Memorial ) . 3w
  •   kgmc66 @colowrine - all near you . See above comment . Hope you are enjoying your summer . 3w
  •   colowrine Thank you for your answer @kgmc66 ! I was curious because I found out to the national australian memorial in Villers Bretonneux last weekend and it gave me mixed feelings being there... Have you already been there? 3w
  •   kgmc66 @colowrine many times ! Tell me about your feelings . 3w
  •   colowrine Oh really?! Have you any relatives who waged ww1? As for my mixed feelings @kgmc66 it's because that place is very peaceful and pleasant to be in. It's hard to think it is a cimetary... Our cimetaries in France are dull, grey and with so many stones, nothing similar with the australian mational memorium. Also, it is sad to think to all those young men who came from so far away to battle here and die... Maybe the memorial is as nice as those young men were... 3w
  •   kgmc66 @colowrine I know what you mean - the cemeteries are so beautiful but they hide so much horror . I have a least three ancestors who served near Amiens , and my wife's great uncle is buried at Serre Road No 2 . I will be in France again in September . 3w
  •   colowrine Wow. That make a lot of people who served in France in your family! Is it the reason why you know Amiens? Will you come in Amiens again in next September? @kgmc66 2w

kgmc66 For my #FWW friends here and abroad . Spotted yesterday in the nave of St Andrew's Uniting Church , Brisbane. Really appreciate the lines of this one, the materials , the contemporary nomenclature ( "The Dardenelles" - they all knew where that was ) - everything about it. Recent terrible events sharpen reflections about Australians lost far from their safe homeland. I really don't know how the country came to bear it . 4w
  •   carolinethurlow Would love to catch up soon about our travels. Maybe a Friday night drink or something? Am away in Canberra this wk, so will email on my return. 4w

kgmc66 A great programme this morning of music, history and architecture. Very memorable and hit the right notes. The choral rendition of "In Flanders Fields" was incredibly moving and neatly tied in the local and global centenary. Well done Fr James and Committee. Off to a great start. 4w
  •   kgmc66 Forgot to mention the exhibition of local artists as well. Great touch. 4w
