It is called the "Sell Your Brain, Give Your Heart podcast that teaches you how to package and sell your expertise online with online courses, membership sites, coaching, and consulting without feeling like you have to be sleezy. keithgriffis One of the biggest struggles that I experienced when I was starting out online course was trying to impress my peers and trying to be unique.

I agonized over what somebody else who is teaching when I talk would think. I struggle to find a unique angle that they weren't already covering.

I thought that simply the idea itself was going to be the driving force behind success or failure.

I was too busy trying to impress my competition and not focusing my time on the true problems of my potential customers.
anyone else face this problem? it might be disguised as imposter syndrome or some other great term but it's all the same. you're not focused on the right person.

Look to the people who need your help, find out the problem, and start sharing the solution with them.

stop worrying about what the other podcast is in your nature doing or bloggers for those on social media.
There's not just one expert on any topic. there's not just room for one business of each type, otherwise we wouldn't have so many burger joints, pharmacies, or leadership books.

what matters is that the customers trust you and relate to you. what your competition is not doing his building trust with your customer.

YOU are the key ingredient, not your super unique idea.
What has been holding you back? what is the single biggest problem you have in getting your business off the ground?

keithgriffis Every like, comment, friend request is a nudge forward. Every simple words of encouragement is a request for you to see how great you can really be.
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ if people take the time to get to know you in person or online they are telling you to push through your fear and do something great.
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ They want you to succeed, not fail. They want you to show them that it's OK to try to put yourself out there.
they want you to lead them to your vision of what the world can be. they want to see you reach your potential.

They (we) do this because we want you to show us that it's OK to want something bigger. we do this because by you taking a step forward we feel like we now have the power to take a step forward as well.

they do it because you are genuine and they want to see you succeed because in turn gives them the power to succeed themselves.
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ I challenge you to step outside of yourself and put your thoughts, beliefs, and vision out into the world.
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Pick your medium and start creating now. Whether it's a microphone, a pen, a paintbrush, keyboard, or a phone call you have the power to do something great and I know you're going to do it.

keithgriffis I have received a lot of questions from people who ask me how I get so many comments or so much engagement on Instagram and My FB wall. My answer? I try to help a very specific person. ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Notice in the photo I didn't ask "who is your ideal customer?" I did this because we should all approach our business from a stance of service. This follows along to my recent video series about value creation. ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ When you know WHO you are talking to & WHAT their desires and challenges are you can HELP them. When you help them with their struggles they engage (oh boy am I praying I get some comments on this post or I will look like a Boob). ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ If you don't know who you are talking to than nobody is listening.
Why waste time creating content for ANYONE and have NO ONE consume it.
Get clear on who you serve. These are your best and most ideal customers (hint: they are likely very similar to you). ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ In my case, they are early stage mom and dadpreneurs looking to create a legacy for themselves and their family. They want to add value to the world. They have 2 kids (fictitious) and are approx 35. They have corporate jobs and are looking to create a business online via online courses. ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Who do you help? Leave a comment below and your ideal customer might come find you (also be sure to tell us what you do for them). Go!

keithgriffis I am the king of procrastination. I always like to remind myself when I am too tired that a 1000 missed opportunities will never equal one seized opportunity.
You can't continually say you should do something and then be upset when you watch others take the steps in their life that you want. They put in the work. So can you.
Get out there and put in the work so you can say "I did".

keithgriffis We never quite understand the wisdom of our parents until later on in life.
Since I was a young boy, my father always told me "you only need to be two things in life to be successful: Confident and Competent". At the time I thought, sure dad sounds good. Now as I get older and I have children of my own it has really resonated.

when you start trying to distill down the things that make you successful in your life experience you realize the core attributes.

for me this statement is the one that reverberates in my mind each time I look at my son.

it is simple, but profound at the same time. you need to be competent, meaning good at everything that you say you do.

and you need to be confident enough to tell the world what it is that you do and promote yourself.

if you have the guts to speak up and stand up for what you believe in people will give you a chance. then you need to have the compliments to back up the statements you make.

I hope the simple framework helps you as it is help me in my career. thanks Pop for your wisdom and always being there to push us forward.
do you agree? What are some things that have pushed you forward in your career or business?

keithgriffis I just got off of a free coaching session with an awesome guy @mikebrichardson who has big plans and will succeed (no doubt). What struck me from our conversation was how he asked me whether I was going to pitch my services. Most of you will think I am crazy when I say that I almost never push my services. I wait until people ask.
I provide as much value as I can and IF it is a fit they always ask to work with me.
In this case he was surprised that I wasn't trying to corner him into my coaching program.
He then began to offer up ways he could help me. I simply asked for a testimonial about the value he received.
I share this because I want to highlight a few key points:

1. You don't have to sell people when you are providing value

2. Not enough clients: help people who are your ideal customer and they will help promote you.
3. Free isn't worthless. I gave him what most pay thousands to receive, but it has huge value to me in the testimonial, friendship, and long term relationship we built.
How can you help someone like Mile solve a problem you have solved? In my case it was #onlinecourse creation and #onlinebusiness and yours could be anything. #addvalue #freecoaching

keithgriffis I was recently on a call with someone and they said my social media and business presence is too NICE.
They highly recommended that I post more controversial posts. This gets more engagement and will lead to more visibility for my #brand.
I told him that although this works for others it is not for me. If something I believe in is controversial then I will stand by it, but not looking for fabricated engagement.
He specifically said that my post promoting and showcasing others was a "waste of time". He suggested I call out negative people and start a bit of a twitter battle. I again respectfully disagreed. I am not Taylor Swift or Kayne West.
I explained my brand is built on positive relationships and tried to explain how people feel about you is a direct reflection of how you feel about them. I say lift people up don't tear them down.
I see great examples of this in @tedrubin, @isocialfanz, @bryankramer1, @jaredeasley, @suebzimmerman who are lifting others up. I stand with them.
Do you agree? Should I go negative?

keithgriffis I have a bone to pick that a lot of people may not like. Recently I have had a lot of conversations with "business coaches" who have never run businesses before they started coaching.
They are supposedly trying to help people analyze and grow their business through their coaching, but they have never actually done it on their own.
The problem with this is the people paying on the other end are expecting experience and perspective that you can't possibly have if you have not done it. It is one thing to know something and share it, but another thing entirely to misrepresent.
The same thing goes for marketers who sell marketing advice they have never used. If you can't show personal results than you should seriously reconsider your niche or further develop yourself before taking the leap.
Here are three questions you must ask before hiring a coach:
1. What businesses have you run, for how long, and what was the revenue?
2. Why did you stop running that business and how did you exit?
3. Can you provide a client list (three minimum references) along with how exactly you helped them and their results?

I hope this doesn't offend too many people, but I can't stand getting pitches from people who do this. It is not fair to those who are doing this legitimately. #frustrated
Agree or disagree?

  •   immersephotography 🏻🏻🏻 totally agree!!!! I just watched someone launch a similar photography course (and use a similar name)... yet in a private group she said she didn't have many clients. Its hard to trust someone who says "they are sold out" and "have repeat clients" when that's not what is really happening. Don't get me wrong, would LOVE to see her succeed - but you have to be real and honest! 1mon

keithgriffis I was waiting to checkout at 4am this morning at a 24hr convenience store. When I got to the clerk we were chatting and he mentioned that he starts work at 11pm and ends at 7am. Apparently he does this to get an extra $1.50 an hour above minimum wage.
This made me think about how we spend our time. This guy is spending 8hours in a day making just above minimum wage while myself and others are working that same 8 hours to get triple or more than that amount.
It all starts by creating a plan and choosing how to spend your time. You can choose to gain an education in a direction that elevates you in the future or you can accept the place you are and stay there.
Now this is an extreme example, but people do this with college degrees all the time. I can't tell you how many people I graduated with who don't do anything close to their potential because they either did not choose a path that provides the level of return they "dream of" or they choose to remain static and not continue their education through self study.
The next time you say you can't change your situation please realize you are lying to yourself. We are all capable of growth if we have a plan. Find others who are where you want to be and reach out for guidance or join the groups they belong to.
Many times this costs you nothing because of all the free courses available online via udemy, Coursera, or even Apple university.
Don't accept where you are, just who you are.

keithgriffis What do you do at night when the kids go to bed? Are you working on your passion or watching your favorite sitcom?
I see a lot of people posting about their "dream", but very few working toward it.
3 steps you can take to start working on your dream:
1. Start a podcast or YouTube channel about the topic and post weekly tips to build authority. Talk to @jaredeasley and attend @podcastmovement
2. Write a kindle ebook about your topic to build credibility and start getting traffic.
Talk to @kimanzi or this if you need help.
3. Start guest blogging for large sites. @kimanzi can help here too!

keithgriffis So often we mistake "the dream" as the end result. We look at it as the magazine cover or big sale of a company. The reality is that the journey is the dream. The actual path of creating and building your dream is the fun and hard part. It is the part you will long for at the end and will look for a new one.
The real dream is the ability to pursue your dreams. It is having a supportive husband or wife. It is having a home and a skill set that give you some time (even if it is late at night) to work on your dream. It is working in a job you love or toward a degree you want). The dream is having food on the table and the freedom to dream. It is having the will to act. It is being afforded the opportunity to work really hard for something you care about. It is growing up in a time when you have more opportunity to build the life you want than ever before. It is having your health in both body and mind.
So I ask, are you living the dream? If not, how will you change that?

keithgriffis I was lucky to grow up with an amazing Father. My dad was a superhero to me and now he is a superhero to his grandson. He fight in a war, built our house with his own hands, and worked many jobs to support our family. my mom and him made our lives amazing. It didn't matter how much money we had, but only that they were there for us at all times. I remember my dad rolling on the ground with me, telling me he loves me, and giving me huge hugs. He is a big tough guy (6'1"), but he taught me that real strength comes from love.
To all those dads who are superheroes to their sons I say " Happy Father's Day"! I love you Pop!

keithgriffis I have a huge confession to make. I used to despise Facebook. I used to think it was a place to waste time post pictures of food and talk about stupid things.

I did all of this while teaching about social media and other platforms as well as content marketing.

I fully admit I missed the boat. I am a complete convert. I now see Facebook as a platform to start a movement, connect with amazing people, stay motivated with your goals and aspirations, and grow your business. It is also a place to connect laugh and spread joy with your friends and family.

I am thankful I discovered this and now I share this message with so many others who were once skeptical like myself.

I now almost exclusively post content to my social channels and other websites as opposed to my own blog. i'm not saying it's right but I am saying it is been right for me.
what does Facebook mean to you? What does it allow you to do?

keithgriffis How valuable is 15 minutes? What could you accomplish in that time each day? A blog post? A course outline? Schedule a new webinar? Make a new strategic contact?
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ I have adopted a 15 min power session each day where I focus on a single strategic initiative. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I even accomplish this during a bathroom break (I.e. The library). What will you do in be next 15 minutes to move your goals forward? ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
The people tagged in this photo so more in 15 minutes than most people I know. ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Tag 3 friends that are making things happen in their 15 minutes of power. People like @gjhickman @jaredeasley @jeffsieh
