julienorthrop The scenic drive along the Seward Highway about mid-point between Girdwood and Portage yesterday morning was incredible! 19h

julienorthrop This is Ruby, a beta grey wolf that is part of a pack at the Alaska Zoo. Yesterday was Wolf Day at the zoo and a fantastic outing for just my 20 yo daughter and I. She was thrilled to see this beautiful animal up close. 1w

julienorthrop It was quite chilly in the early morning hours, but I managed to hang in there and photograph the lunar eclipse. Apparently the aurora danced around as well, but I never looked north...just headed east from the back deck into our warm abode. Kudos to those that captured both! (Canon T1i,

julienorthrop Fall colors surrounding Lake Hood with the Chugach Mountain Range in the background before their tops were blanketed in snow. I could spend hours here watching the floatplanes take-off and land. (Canon T1i, 24-105mm) 2w

julienorthrop A grizzly sow and her cubs foraging on a hillside in the Denali National Park. Our Denali Road Lottery adventure was amazing! It started off with a bit of rain and clouds but as we drove further in the clouds gave way to blue sky and Denali appeared in all it's glory. We saw bears, doll sheep, moose and a caribou. We even made it all the way back to the end of the road (92.5 miles). The drive from Anchorage to the park was incredible as well with the fall colors and the most colorful rainbow I've ever seen. Dare I say yet again how much I love this beautiful state? 4w

julienorthrop How does one describe the beauty and mostly untouched wilderness of the Denali National Park? Well, I can't so I'll let my photo do the talking. At 20,320' above sea level, Denali (also known as Mt. McKinley or The Great One) is quite a sight to behold. So thankful I was a Denali Road Lottery winner! It was an incredible experience spending Sunday in the park! (iPhone 5s, edited slightly in IG) 1mon
  •   thejohnsongirl Dang it! We went Monday and the top was covered in clouds! Lucky.... 1mon
  •   _paintedzebra Lovely!! 1mon

  •   julienorthrop Quite a few Tanya, however during the summer season you can only drive in about 15 miles. If anyone wants to go all the way in they have to take a bus UNLESS you win a road lottery ticket or you are of the very few that own property in the park. :) @ivorytickler30 3w
  •   julienorthrop Oh we feel very lucky to have seen Denali that close with barely any clouds! Did you see lots of wildlife though? I'm hooked though! Now I want to go every fall! @thejohnsongirl 3w
  •   beachchickmz So super wonderful. Just gorgeous 3w

julienorthrop Took a day trip to Talkeetna last Sunday just to see Denali before all the fall colors disappear under the snow. This weekend my family and I will be in the Denali National Park courtesy of a winning lottery road ticket. We've entered the lottery for the last 4 years and finally won. Hoping to meet up with a very talented photographer, @alaskan_explorer who also won! (Denali, viewed from the sandy bank of Susitna River in Talkeetna. Canon, 24-105mm) 1mon
  •   julienorthrop Me too Angie! I know it'll be crowded, but hope for the best. @alaskan_explorer 1mon
  •   mearsinak Julie I was up there for work, so it wasn't to much fun. But we stayed up at the Princess lodge and got to meet a lot of cool people! It's funny to me how people are so intrigued from us living here. They were so shocked that I've lived here my whole live, they had endless questions and wanted to hear all my stories. Hahaha 1mon
  •   julienorthrop Ok as far as work trips go, that's a pretty awesome one Todd. :) It's so cool though that you're open to sharing your Alaska life history with visitors. I was born & raised here, then lived in Phoenix for quite a while. When I'd mention I was from Alaska I would be flooded with questions. What seems common place to us is quite extraordinary to visitors. So awesome that we live in this beautiful state! @mearsinak 1mon
  •   alaskamelia We were too! Although it was prolly closer to evening. If you saw two smallish kids and a big kid (aka @a_tarheel_in_ak) skipping rocks then you saw us. Lol 1mon
  •   julienorthrop Ha! I remember a family skipping rocks next to us! I was with my husband and I took a few photos of two lady tourists standing in the water. @alaskamelia 1mon
  •   valerie_ann Love that spot! Beautiful shot Julie! 1w
  •   gregoirelemire Gorgeous picture!! 1w

julienorthrop Happy National Dog Day! Since I'm more of a doggy caretaker than owner, I thought I'd share this photo I took of my daughter and her dog, Jasper, enjoying their time together when we were in Seward. He's a challenge but the joy he brings all of us is worth it. In an effort to help animals in need, my good friend started @charity_paws. Please take a moment to check out her IG account and website. It's a worthy cause worth sharing. 2mon

julienorthrop Took a short walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal trail this afternoon. As we passed West Chester Lagoon I had to stop and take a few photos of the beautiful reflections in the water framed so perfectly by the trees. Wishing you all a fabulous week. 3mon

julienorthrop Spent a few hours at the 2014 Arctic Thunder Air Show in Anchorage this last Saturday. My whole family enjoyed the show and I even managed to get a few good photos. The F-22 Raptor is one of my favorites. A big thank you to JBER, all the pilots and ground crew that worked to bring this together! 3mon

julienorthrop The scenic views along the Seward Highway are amazing! I took this as we approached the turn off to Girdwood last weekend. Yes, another drive-by photo out the passenger window, but this time with my Canon. 4mon
