journeyofnow For many of us, water simply flows from a faucet, and we think little about it beyond this point of contact. We have lost a sense of respect for the wild river, for the complex workings of a wetland, for the intricate web of life that water supports. - Sandra Postel 21h

journeyofnow I must make it through to the other side. 2d
  •   lifewitpets What if the goal is realistic, you expect that goal, try for it and still lose it? What then? @stephinthecityyy @j.osh 21h
  •   journeyofnow @lifeanddogs @stephinthecityyy @j.osh thanks Michael for your thoughtful point of view. I agree Steph perception is totally ones own reality. It's when we look for what other people tell we should be, or tell us what goals we should be is when problems arise. I set goals for "myself" and work hard to making them happen. If I don't hit my goal, I no longer beat myself up. I know I tried my best and enjoy the journey along the way. My goal is one of self realization and happiness, but more importantly it's not the end but the journey towards ones destination. 21h

journeyofnow No single decision you ever made has led in a straight line to where you find yourself now. You peeked down some roads and took a few steps before turning back. You followed some roads that came to a dead end and others that got lost at too many intersections. Ultimately, all roads are connected to all other roads. ~ Deepak 3d

journeyofnow Collab: It is not often that I get to collaborate with a fellow IG'er but when @j.osh asked if he could edit one of my images, I jumped at the chance to edit one of his. Joshua is from Singapore and an all around cool gentleman of the highest order :). If you get a chance, stop by his feed. 4d

journeyofnow “Listen to the trees as they sway in the wind.

Their leaves are telling secrets. Their bark sings songs of olden days as it grows around the trunks. And their roots give names to all things.

Their language has been lost.

But not the gestures.” ― Vera Nazarian,

journeyofnow Don't you just love days like this. Where you are free to explore, with no thoughts of what you didn't get done in the past, or the needs of the future. Just enjoying nature as it unfolds. 6d

journeyofnow You know, bicycling isn't just a matter of balance," I said. "it's a matter of faith. You can keep upright only by moving forward. You have to have your eyes on the goal, not the ground. I'm going to call that the Bicyclist's Philosophy of Life.

journeyofnow INSTAGRAM FEATURE - One of the activities I like to do is to find an account with less than 500 followers, who at an early stage already has a selection of fantastic photos. I find those accounts are very rare to find, so when I do find someone, I often smile. Coming out of Tampa Florida, I would like to introduce you to @postnoir, Aimee is definitely a hidden gem.

Her feed is mostly monochromatic, with a few color shots mixed in for good measure. When I look at a person's feed, I try to understand what they are going for in their photos, the story they are trying to tell. Aimee feed to me is an exploration in shades of gray that middle ground where many possibilities reside. This is Aimee world of exploration, and she plays in that area perfectly. There is an immense amount of detail to her photos that once you visit and look closely, it can't be denied. There is a calm and mysterious feeling when I look through her photos... to add to that, her titles and messages are somewhat mysterious and pondering. There is an interesting mind at work behind these photos. It appears that a number of her photos are from Florida, but somehow with her editing, they give the impression of another time and place.

While Aimee is just starting out, I hope that she continues to post it is an account to watch. Please take some time and go through her stream, follow and say hi while you're over there you will not be disappointed.

journeyofnow Have you ever heard the wonderful silence just before the dawn? Or the quiet and calm just as a storm ends? Or perhaps you know the silence when you haven't the answer to a question you've been asked, or the hush of a country road at night, or the expectant pause of a room full of people when someone is just about to speak, or, most beautiful of all, the moment after the door closes and you're alone in the whole house? Each one is different, you know, and all very beautiful if you listen carefully.

journeyofnow We pick a day when we decide to go shooting maybe it's for a sunrise or sunset. We then look at the weather report and decide to go for it... we get to the beach, we take our equipment and get adjusted to the environment and just shoot. Each day is different, beautiful. It could be raining in the far distance with billowing clouds that mirror a deep gray mixed with blue tones, or another day the sun could be shining without a cloud in sight. We just don't know with any full certainty what is going to happen while we are there. We just shoot watch and enjoy with no real attachment.

The experience is a good viewpoint for our subjective experience. It is a reminder that we should just observe things as they come, like looking through one's lens or screen, with no perceived notions of how the beach should be or how you want them to be. Not doing so only creates stress, tension a disconnect with our self.

Happy Wednesday.

journeyofnow Photography equipment can be very expensive, so my friend @andpersant decided to make his own. Andrew is a fan of ring lighting, so I asked if I could be a guinea pig.

This is his shot, and bunch of edits between Andrew and I.

journeyofnow Have you ever seen the dawn? Not a dawn groggy with lack of sleep or hectic with mindless obligations and you about to rush off on an early adventure or business, but full of deep silence and absolute clarity of perception? A dawning which you truly observe, degree by degree. It is the most amazing moment of birth. And more than anything it can spur you to action. Have a burning day.

journeyofnow INSTAGRAM FEATURE - Well my friends for those that have been fallowing me for any length of time some of you may remember my weekly feature. It has been a very long time and much has changed. When I first starting doing these, I would pick only IG'ers that took photos with a mobile phone. Much has changed since then. With the prolification of DSLR shots on Instagram in addition to the current improvements with mobile phone technology, the lines have blurred. So moving forward I will no feature both where appropriate.

Coming out of California I would like to introduce you to @barparildar. Baris shoots with an Olympus E-P5, Canon T2i, and his phone. His skill on all devices are so good I dare you to spot the ones taken with his phone ;). Baris focuses on landscape photography and what a sight to behold. His beach shots are epic, full of scale and grandeur. You feel small with viewing his work. His clouds are amazing and full of detail I honestly don't know how he can consistently capture the light and detail in his clouds on a consistent basis. I'll say Baris has a serious cloud porn fetish and I love it! Baris does so many things right from composition to capturing light. What impresses me most about his work, is his ability to edit his shots to bring out certain detail in a photo or create a mood. He has a way of capturing and enhancing his shot in the cyan-blue hue that blows me away. It's just gorgeous. It seems like whenever Baris steps out the house, nature puts on her best dress and what show he can capture.

Baris is very creative, and also has an impeccable taste in music, I would love to one day go shooting with this guy. I'm sure it would be a wonderful experience.

Please take some time and go through his stream, follow and say hi while you're over there you will not be disappointed! Also, check out some of my older features here as well on #jon_feature.

journeyofnow This is how I feel right now, I know it's only Monday but I'm full of positive energy. If you come too close to me today, you may just leave energized and just overall happy for a Monday.

As some of you may know I started getting back in shape in the end of June last year. I've dropped about 23 pounds and a nice byproduct I had to get new clothes, and still need some new Jeans, since they are falling off my waist.

January it was time to take to push myself further. I joined a contest with a bunch of my close friends to see who could have the biggest change in body fat 1.5% in 3 months. First month and a half in, I lost 2% body fat, 2 inches off my waist and about 4.5 pounds ( according to my withings scale. ). While I'm motivated to win the prize of $350 winning the money ultimately does not matter, because the benefits of a better health is priceless!

Happy Monday!
