jorgeq The prospect of coming across a person that has such an appealing characteristic about them to an extent where you can't envision not capturing a portrait is one that I yearn for during every outing I take. I haven't taken as many street portraits as I have generally done in the past but I'm always in the constant lookout for that passing stranger that draws my attention. I love approaching people who's eyes may seem like they have an interesting backstory to share. Sometimes, it’s their facial features that attracts me. Sometimes it's the setting in which they may be in. In Jimmy Webb's case, it was his punk-rock attire.

Trash & Vaudeville opened in 1975, and has been providing Rock n' Roll clothing ever since. If there is a living embodiment of Trash & Vaudeville, it’s the store’s buyer, manager and face, Jimmy Webb, who’s worked there since he was a 16-year-old and has become a bit of a legend in his own right. I was unaware of his backstory until I read a NYT article on the establishment. Talk about not knowing who you're gonna come across especially in NY. #storyportrait

jorgeq "My job isn’t, in the strictest sense, to make photographs. It’s to go out and experience life as deeply as I can. Because that’s where the magic is." - David Duchemin 4w

jorgeq 20 years from now it will be so interesting to look back at all the photographs we're taking of our city now and be as mesmerized as we are when we see photographs taken 20 years ago during the 90's. The difference is we're documenting changes more than ever before. #momenttele #makemoments 1mon

jorgeq My favorite routine for learning about different traditions has always been to eat at cultural restaurants. The more we learn about other cultures the less misconceptions and stereotypes there will be. I eat and make conversation with complete strangers to make sense of the world. As I do this, I begin to see a bigger picture and I’m often treated to the beautiful charms and character of people in other cultures who catch sight of my genuine interest. My appeal for exploring is not about expanding a photo archive but to care more deeply for things outside of what I was taught growing up. It’s for this very reason that I yearn for the chance to be part of #PassportToAsia with @passionpassport.

In the end, travel is more than just boarding a plane. It involves learning about others and yourself and the more you learn the more you see we share great things. There’s something satisfying about venturing into a place and leaving all your beliefs and certainties at home and seeing everything you thought you knew in a different light. Cheers to opening our minds!

  •   aaronskennedy That's me, too! People feel that they don't understand. Best way to solve is exposure...talk to people. Eat their food... 1mon
