jorgeq "I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA. Like any other small beach town, you can do only a few things for fun. Surf, skateboard and learn an instrument to name a few. I did all of the above and when I moved to New York the inability to have my own drum set in my apt, put a camera back in my hand.

jorgeq Jasmine was first introduced to fitness as a dancer which she pursued for roughly 6 years and at one point also became certified as personal trainer and it's been equal passion for the past 3 years.

She participated in the NPC Summer Classics in Westchester and ended up with 1st place in bikini competition as well as 1st place in novice class.

She mentioned in how fitness is not anything you can just do and simply check off because more than anything it's a lifestyle you have to adapt and commit to in order to see the physical changes and keep them. #whptodayimet

jorgeq The story of how I met Yo Akalu is an interesting one. When we're growing up, we're generally taught not to speak to strangers and often times that mentality lingers longer than we might want it to as adults but if I lived by that principal now, you would never see as many portraits as I share because they've all stemmed from my interest in meeting new people.

Sneak peak of today's shoot. Ethiopian, Longborder, model and many exciting things ahead for her. #makeportraits

  •   trippingmaroon Hey @jorgeq, I've been following your blog since Tumblr days.. Love your work. Just wanted to ask, the photos on your ig feed, do you only use a phone camera or do you also use a larger sensor one? - Regards, Suhas 2w
  •   jorgeq @trippingmaroon Hi Suhas! Thanks for the ongoing support. 98% of the photos I share on Instagram were shot with iPhone 5. The key is to make sure that whatever you're photographing with the device is under really good light. Make sure to underexpose your shots and I shoot with HDR Mode on except when shooting movement. I edit photos with VSCO and make final touches with Snapseed. 2w
  •   theleveewasbry Great portrait. 2w
  •   jorgeq @theleveewasbry Thanks Bryan! I think I may have seen you at the ONA + Charity: Water Instameet. 2w
  •   trippingmaroon @jorgeq Hey, thanks for that piece of information! Really appreciate it :) The reason I asked was because I don't feel like investing in an expensive phone at the moment when I have a good dslr.. But then again, you can't beat the convenience a phone offers.. Maybe I'll purchase a good camera phone someday :) 2w

jorgeq I met @chrisgampat probably 4-5 years ago where he was gracious enough to enlighten me on business side of photography.

After being burnt out from shooting weddings, Chris' primary focus back then was on building this website which I had a difficulty even pronouncing at my first 2 attempts. Needless to say the vision for what he wanted to create became a success in view that he eventually quit his job and now lives off what we now know as @phoblographer

Photographically, I literally felt loss back then and so now after a few years we met up and chatted about how much of an impact Instagram has had on what I shoot now and the type of photographer I hope to become. Link on profile to the interview.

jorgeq I originally met Eddie during @onabags + @charitywater #tellstories Instameet a few weeks ago and as it tends to be the case with every meet I attend, I always end up connecting with a least one person who I later end up shooting with afterwards.
Good times in Bushwick this evening and the whole time I couldn't help admire his Sahel Camera Strap. ONA teamed up with Charity: Water to create a special camera strap, with proceeds going to the organization's attempts to provide clean drinking water the world over. #makeportraits

  •   eeipa Awesome! The integration of various cultures in a location is like Singapore / Malaysia. It's fun and exciting to see different races but end of the day, we share the same time of flesh n bones. :) 2w
  •   jorgeq @eeipa Very true. I personally enjoy learning about cultures other than my end and in NY we're lucky enough that we have many to choose from. 2w
