jorgeq Having lived in El Salvador for 5 years between the age of 12-17, two of the most significant values I acquired living in the country were awareness and compassion. In observing other people’s living conditions and hardships, I began getting this longing for what I could possibly do to help, specifically when it came to quality education for kids which was not as available as you may think. I invariably failed to follow through in figuring anything because when I was a kid myself, you’re likely to believe you’re too young to make a difference.

What got me thinking about all of this was a book I recently read entitled The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun. Living in El Salvador I feel gave my life purpose which took me a while to realize. Many times I took things for granted, like most kids do, not knowing what you’re living for and perhaps too indifferent to even care. Adam Braun’s story and for-profit organization Pencils of Promise truly reignited that passion to participate in things that matter to me.

The cost for educating a child with Pencils of Promise is $25. It’s $500 to train a teach, $10,000 to build a classroom and $25,000 to construct an entire school.

My objective, if everyone who Follows me on Instagram donates just $2, with your investment and support, we would instantly raise $25,000 to build a full-fledge school.

jorgeq Within my immediate circle of photo enthusiast friends, I’m perhaps the least qualified to expound my wisdom on being a freelance photographer, largely because I’m new at it, but the one flaring edge I may have is my fondness for writing and chronicling my experiences regardless of whether my thoughts will be accepted, embraced, thrown in the trash or worse — never read.

Feel free to visit jorgeq.com to read what I've learned from having freelance so far this year.

jorgeq I recently had the opportunity to visit Farrah at her Brooklyn studio where I unquestionably admire her creative space and she enlighten me on the prototypical process by which she designs an array of beautiful and functional accessories for the home.

jorgeq Here's something I never gave much thought to but it immediately had me thinking the moment I read it: "Since everyone has a camera, what value will you bring to the table as a professional photographer? If you can’t identify your value to others, you’re no different than a hobbyist. Taking a good photo is a skill, but it’s not necessarily of value to anyone else." 3w

jorgeq Writing anything with meaning takes time, let alone a song with intricate lyrics and deliveries such as rap, so it was fascinating to listen to @yaniquenaomi describe her writing process & how her fascination with poetry swerved as the foundation to her pursing music.
