joeywatt It is hard to capture the blur, the rage, the accusations. "You hit the clock and moved twice." As the timer goes it changes in a second... 1. e4 e5 2. joeywatt This Station I lived with for so many years... As I came up the stairs it all came back... 10 years and that race... At the end of a 16 hour shift you had to race to catch the train. One time I recall awakening to the police looking down on me. When I awoke I blurted out; "I'm not drunk, just worked..." They told me they didn't care, I was at the end of the line and missed my stop. Who Are You??? 9mon

  •   lenelangbakk I'm in NYC on vacation:) Hello America Love the simplicity in your pic my freiend 9mon
  •   joeywatt @lenelangbakk from Oslo to NYC!!! When I travel it is the outskirts of the foreign cities that I find the most interesting. They all have that congestion, noise, museums, ,,, I hope not to offend anyone but NYC is the exception. Looking forward to your pictures and am sure you will have a great time. So many things to do and 7 days is just a start. The Ferry to Statin Island is free and a nice way to take it in. Looking forward to seeing NYC through your eyes. 9mon
  •   lenelangbakk Thx dear I'll do my best 9mon

joeywatt HOBART BUILDING, upon completion in 1914. Willis Polk, the architect is one of those atavistic characters that needs more attention. Given his lack of a formal education and the controversy about the building it is amazing it still stands. The elevator panels look like they are from the 70's and I suspect the 13th floor may have been added around this time. This man I suspect would be an interesting story but who has the time to tell it? "I was walking down Market Street and noticed how badly that straight line on the roof of the Hobart Building looked." Polk 1914 10mon
  •   joeywatt @pallbin thank you very much. I had fun with this one 10mon
  •   seaair1 @joeywatt awesome !!!!! 10mon
  •   joeywatt @seaair1 100 years this building must have dominated the city as it was the tallest in 1914. What exists now I suspect was unfathomable back then. What are they to see in 2114 if we were to forward 100 years. 10mon
  •   nancyfordephoto @joeywatt thanks Joey- was your sat comment to me meant for me? about remembering the ones who went before us? I feel badly Thst I don't remember to what convo you're referring? was it on another of your pics - I've a head like a sieve sometimes 10mon
  •   joeywatt Thank you Nancy and I'll tag you to the conversation , on a quick break from work but we had been talking about the Roots , this has a similar component yet it isn't so much out the Irish history but in some way I wonder how they saw things. My grandmother was apparently laughing about the odd people on the train in NYC. Her sister told her it was chewing gum. Something we take as normal nowadays yet was a new thing to those arriving from other places. @nancyfordephoto 10mon

joeywatt The #13 appears in modern times but was skipped in the past. What it says about then and now I'm not quite sure. It must say something? 10mon
  •   lenelangbakk I guess the statistics are on 13's side 10mon
  •   joeywatt @lenelangbakk hello and I've found it has a word: triskaidekaphobia. I was in an older building and almost took a pic of the missing floor. Now I'm going to find an older one and shoot what doesn't exist. Just hope they don't ask who do I intend to visit. 10mon
  •   lenelangbakk Just tell them you have triskadekaphobia and you'llbe alright 10mon
  •   d_squared_hk Nice 10mon
  •   anelllina123 Luvthis pic AND this conversation I did't know they brought the 13th floor back gonna have to start paying attention more when im in an elevator. Ill post as soon as I see (NO) 13😛. @lenelangbakk @joeywatt 2mon
  •   joeywatt Getting from floor 12 to the lobby really took a leap of faith that made Dante's inferno seem like a cool sauna - @anelllina123 thank u!! 2mon

joeywatt What is the best move for White?
Nothing fancy just chess...
10mon
  •   michaelvbryant Are you Black or White? @joeywatt 10mon
  •   joeywatt @michaelvbryant WHITE to move and I found a second move that does the same thing. I used to play much more and it is fun to start again. It is a bit like photography with themes , lines, patterns , and sometimes luck. The reception is so bad I have to copy my comment in the event it doesn't paste. 10mon
  •   michaelvbryant Is that because it's your area? @joeywatt 10mon
  •   joeywatt @michaelvbryant if you move the white night to one of two places it is a checkmate. It has a theme of removing the escape squares and exposed check 10mon
  •   michaelvbryant I see it! @joeywatt 10mon
  •   michaelvbryant Because the Queen can swoop in but it will be overtaken with the other knight. Nice move! @joeywatt 10mon
  •   erfanmot it's too easy! 1.Nd6+ Kh6 2.Nf7# 10mon

joeywatt Fruitvale BART station with all the horror the dream holds... Oscar Grant the 3rd and another trial set to close in a few days... 11mon

  •   javiervegas Good one! 10mon
  •   joeywatt @lenelangbakk @ohhlookabunny @katwesterman @javiervegas thanks so much and it is nice to get back in touch. Been running like a cat in a thunderstorm." I miss all this and look forward to catching up. This picture was an odd snap - one of those places that seems to hold some invisible energy. It is the same station that Oscar Grant was killed at. A trial is due to close and it is a brutal story. A police officer pulled a gun and claims he thought it was a tazer and the young man was shot dead. Strange to think of this event that was captured on cell phones and after global news they even made a film. I saw this image of MLK just as the woman walked in. This is the spot for the taxis to gather and for some reason it seems to be the only taxi absent station. It will pass... 10mon

joeywatt Seems strange to sleep on a train in all sense of the action. Seems that things pass as they do with one day blending seamlessly from one to the next. That is until you reach this mythologic destination.
Nothing fancy, just a passing thought.

  •   kgisaak Great to see your shot pop up Joey! Just scrolled through your latest shots and hats off to you! You've got some great, honest images. And brave of you to get so close to some of them Getting inspired to get out and take new shots... 11mon
  •   joeywatt @jujuimages thank you!! 11mon
  •   joeywatt @kgisaak thanks you and I really appreciate your feedback. I'm still thinking of your influence on a regular basis - through something. The train shots make it a bit different but this is through an door as I exit and they come in. It is a good opportunity to catch them unprepared but looking. 11mon

  •   joeywatt @dayesleeper thanks David and I suspect but can't be sure 11mon
  •   joeywatt @dafna1gordon thank you. This one just felt good but lacking the strict rules that I feel prevent me from snapping certain things. Just like the people and bits of them off to another place in ways seen and felt on the train. 11mon

joeywatt Enantiodromia "People will do anything, no matter how absurd to stop from facing their souls." Jung 1y
  •   kburke00 The shadow... Ever powerful force in our humanness. Bravo Joe for the image and words!! 1y
  •   dafna1gordon 1y
  •   surreal42 Awesome 1y
  •   joeywatt @moosh1 @kburke00 @dafna1gordon @surreal42 thanks so much and it was very cool how this picture came about. It all started with a discussion I was having with a scholar about Jung. We were talking about Jung's theory about the shadow and it seemed to follow me around (intended). Towards the end of the day I just happened to see these shadows appear and the time lasts about 5 min or so. I just sat on the curb and grabbed a few people who happened to pass. I wasn't looking for the person but the shadow and if I'm to follow Jung it was an attempt to look at my own shadow. One of the positive aspects about this shadow we carry around is its creative side. Sorry for my blabber... 1y
  •   kburke00 You never blabber !!! Thank goodness the shadow is related to our creative side otherwise..... ??!! 1y
  •   joeywatt @kburke00 , it is interesting on so many levels and the creative side is perhaps the good side of it. In many ways it is a psychological blindness that we don't see. Jung was unsure if we could actually see it. Perhaps my favorite side of Jung was that he was quite certain that he was unsure of the validity of his theories. 1y
  •   lenelangbakk Projections are always interesting! Maybe it is easier for us to recognize them in others than ourselves? 1y

joeywatt Charles Bukowski

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.
