jeremyriad When the path ahead seems to disappear into a disorienting fog, try to stay grounded. There are still bright beacons marking the way; they may just be spaced a great distance apart. (But they're there. And so are you. Because you matter.) #earthday #youmatter 5d

jeremyriad Sunday is for found forts and mobile writing studios. Sausalito, CA. 1w
  •   therinbrooks This is in Sausalito? I wana check in out when I am down there at the end of the months 1w
  •   jeremyriad @therinbrooks oh yeah, the headlands are great for old war bunkers (now covered in graffiti) and driftwood forts. I think you would dig it. Go on a weekday (or overcast weekend), and you get miles and miles to explore uninterrupted where nature, art and the military collide! I'm happy to mark a few spots on a map for you. 1w

jeremyriad This still from the 1986 movie, Out of Bounds, is coincidentally also a still from the area of my brain responsible for most of my teenage fantasies. Thanks for jogging the memory, Dangerous Minds. 1w
  •   jeremyriad If I wrote a movie about this image, it would be like Breakfast Club Part 2, only everybody's #goth and they're all eating Count Chocula in detention. Siouxsie takes the Molly Ringwald role. Ally Sheedy can reprise. Gotta think about the rest. 1w
  •   keith_lowry Fabulous 1w
  •   kevbayer33 This is fabulous! 1w
  •   rezin8_grope4luna @jeremyriad I've been told I physically resemble Ally Sheedy. That still creeps me out a bit. 1w

jeremyriad I unplugged for the weekend and learned a ton! But I couldn't stop myself from capturing this little moment, mostly because I think other people out there will be wowed by it, too. If you've been my pal for a while, you may recall the joy I felt a couple years back upon initially sighting "Dr. Seuss Plants" aka horsetail ferns aka Equisetum. Well, on Saturday, an ethnobotanist showed me how these primitive (yeah, think dinosaur times) plants reproduce by spores of green dust. Amazing, right? It was so tempting to walk down the trail, tapping all the ferns and engulfing myself in a cloud of green dust, but why mess with a process that's over a hundred million years old?! Three taps was probably already a bit greedy. #fascinating #nature #ethnobotany #ferns #plants #SPORES #Itappedthat 2w

jeremyriad I built this planter box from 6 Redwood fence pickets (and a YouTube tutorial) for about $20 over the weekend @thecompoundgallery. My Garden Bureau (vegetables in old dresser drawers) is in full swing again, so I'm trying to decide who gets to live in the "fancy planter!" #DIY #woodworking #woodcraft 3w

jeremyriad Then, same city but totally different scene, I was invited to visit artist, author and theremin-player @krk_ryden at the (in)famous Glob Studios. By sheer serendipity, the @dictionarycom Word of the Day was "globular!" (You can't make this stuff up.) In an environment chockablock with eye candy, I couldn't help but seize upon the Bob RX. Wonderful evening. Thanks KRK, @j9ryden @justineryden @thecompoundgallery and of course, The Church of the Subgenius. #art #artist #studiovisit #krkryden #subgenius #devo #globular 4w
  •   j9ryden Was a special day for sure!! @therevrik 4w
  •   hilary_ross That sounds fantastic!!! What an amazing globular adventure that must have been. Thanks so much for the well wishes they are appreciated @jeremyriad 4w
  •   jeremyriad @krk_ryden @j9ryden emphasis on the MENTAL! I need to borrow that green car for my commute. Public transit is tough times for introverts. 4w
  •   therevrik And much fun was clearly had by all!!! Lol 4w
  •   jeremyriad @therevrik your name came up several times (and a couple times even in a positive context, haha just kidding), so consider yourself there! 4w
  •   therevrik 4w
  •   justineryden I missed the globular thing that's so awesome! 4w

jeremyriad Got to visit the studios of 2 local literary and artistic heroes in 1 day! First up: naturalist, writer and style maven, John Muir. I learned that Muir preferred to tell his stories vs. type them, so he sat next to a typist and talked. #johnmuir #naturalist #writers (Out of habit, I tried to tag Mr. Muir, but well, you know, he's not on Instagram.) 4w

jeremyriad The future might be OK because look at all these kids making brightly colored bug hotels! There's even an enterprising young bug hotelier who shares my name. Together, we could start an Airbnb for insects. The Ladybug Hotel could expand, and instead of calling the new outposts "franchises," we'd call them "BRANCH offices." #joy #bugs #bughotels #pollinatorposse @oaklandmuseumca 1mon

jeremyriad Here's another angle of the scene in the woods. More statues and animal horns. If you look closely, you'll see there's a banana slug crawling into one of those vessels. What looks like trash seems like it may have been used as a lid. It's so fascinating. If this is a ritual, do the participants come back for the objects? I'm a big fan of "leave no trace" in our parks and wilderness, but this isn't a beer can and a candy wrapper. It's...religious...spiritual? But not biodegradable... I am, as ever, a fortress of overthinking and ceaseless speculation. Always magic in the woods though! •   tdeupree @jeremyriad I've said this before. The narrative, coupled with good photos, is pretty compelling. 1mon
  •   jeremyriad @rezin8_grope4luna what a supreme compliment! When I get my act together to publish, I'll put that in quotes with an emdash to your handle, which tells me you appreciate the 'Subbacultchas' out there! 1mon
  •   jeremyriad @tdeupree your words of encouragement fuel me in my cubicle. I shall tell (longform) stories again soon! 1mon
  •   tdeupree @jeremyriad well, those of us on the road stumble across stuff that isn't generally known. It helps all of us, makes us wiser, to share that knowledge, or as important, those questions. 1mon
  •   jeremyriad @tdeupree yes! And the idea that strangers can answer such questions with a quickness is still amazing to me! 1mon
  •   rezin8_grope4luna @jeremyriad Haha. Thanks! Please do! Yeah, I'm a huge fan of 'Parts Unknown' & Anthony Bourdain in general. Must be the fact that he & I share the same Sun, Moon & life path sign. I'm feeling restless; gypsies never settle. 1mon

jeremyriad The woods are infinitely fascinating. Maybe some folks did an equinox ritual here? Interesting array of objects and vessels left behind. Does anyone know what is meant to happen to those? Do they get retrieved or signed over to nature or ...? (I'm going to go a little nutty with hashtags in the hopes someone who knows the answer sees this.) #equinox #ritual #rituals #spell #spells #pagan #pagans #witchcraft #magick #occult #woods #oakland 1mon

jeremyriad Wonderful interactive exhibit about The Albany Bulb ends this week. It's called Refuge in Refuse, and I believe it will move you to think about things differently. By chance, Jimbow the Hobow and Rabbit (former Bulb residents) are in the gallery right now. If you're headed this way, wish my fellow Pisces brother Rabbit a happy birthday! #refugeinrefuse #albanybulb 2mon
  •   awkwardladies Oh wow! I used to live across the tracks from the bulb back in 2005-06. Haven't thought about it in so long. Going to try and see the show tomorrow 2mon
  •   jeremyriad @awkwardladies I've been visiting the Bulb for years, but the residents were evicted last year. I've met a few of them since, and their resilience and optimism is nothing short of inspiring . Yeah, check out the show, and then revisit the Bulb. Organizers are calling for more art to be placed there, in prep for a peaceful protest with the city next month! 2mon
