jenellesummers I'm a firm believer in taking pics to measure progress. Fitness is an every day journey for me, with struggles & bad habits to overcome like anyone else. But I treat every day like a new opportunity to prove something to myself, learn something new, feel uncomfortable or pain & try again #NeverNeverGiveUp.
If you're afraid of gaining too much muscle, as you can see from the right, it's a toned look when you're not flexing. If you're afraid of the new number that muscle shows on the scale, ditch the scale It's a deceiving liar most of the time anyway!

jenellesummers A Salad + Shake = Happy!
We were all on our own eating schedules tonight so this was my little dinner.. A salad w/reduced fat feta, kalamata olives, sweet peppers, chick peas & light balsamic vin dressing on spring mix & baby spinach. With a half Shakeology - "Peanut Butter Banana" made with 1c ice, 1c Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Milk, half scoop Vanilla shakeO, 1 T Natural PB, & 1/4 banana.

jenellesummers Afternoon snack! Since it was late afternoon when I feel slightly sluggish, naturally I craved chocolate & "bad" carbs for a minute but this was actually DELICIOUS! I *never* used to snack on sweet peppers but they're PERECT w/hummus (no, it's not homemade & yes, I know how.. Just no patience or time to make everything homemade all the time #RealLife lol️)! 150 calories & packed with nutritional value (100 calories of hummus which was 3 Tbsp & 50 calories of SWEET peppers! #yumm 2d

jenellesummers Are you a person who naturally has a lot of SLOW TWITCH muscle fibers or FAST TWITCH? We ALL have a mix of both & regardless of your genetic make-up, you can TRAIN your body to develop the fast twitch or the slow twitch. Doing so can change the results you get - appearance and performance.
Primarily Fast Twitch? Think Sprinters & athletes in sports requiring speed & explosiveness. Typically (not always) they have shorter muscles & tend to build muscle more easily.

Primarily Slow Twitch? Think long distance runners & athletes in sports requiring great muscle endurance. Typically they have longer-looking muscles. And if they are *genetically predisposed* to have more slow twitch, until they train to combat that, they have a harder time putting on muscle but they have great endurance.

To have your training approach affect your appearance, you HAVE TO factor in nutrition too though. You can train like a marathon runner but look like you have bulky muscles if your nutrition is off and you're therefore maintaining a layer of fat over your muscles.

But this is why it's SO important that you vary your workouts and find what COMBO of workouts your body responds to the best!
And even if you find your soulmate workout, you have to continue to mix things up, even if it's just minor changes with # of reps, # of sets, duration, ..or start a NEW program.. avoid a plateau or burn out

jenellesummers Kicks ..on my good side! But I'm finally getting to the point where I feel less pain & feeling pain less frequently & therefore can do some "normal" workouts. No sympathy needed as I'm sure it's my own fault for not giving it sufficient time to heal (pulled my hamstring at the insertion point doing stairs/sprints).
️Don't let an injury or set-back break your momentum & positive mindset. Focus on nutrition & flexibility. #Piyo has been GREAT for me. Do what u CAN. Someone else is doing more with LESS.

>Strength train 1 min Do 5 rounds!
With a warmup & cool down, it's a 25min full body workout. Ideas for the strength training portion if you don't have weights:
> Push ups
> Walking Lunges
> Tricep Dips
> Bicycle Abs
> Deep Squats

@chalenejohnson told me to eat the pre-chopped up hardboiled eggs in the fridge before they go bad. She's so bossy!️ So I added some spicy mustard to them & put the mixture on toasted Ezekiel bread with baby spinach & Romaine
Yah, it's even faster if someone ELSE hardboiled & chopped the eggs. Thanks sis!

  •   jenellesummers What are jumpers knees @cpkulvete ? Regardless, sorry you may have them! Were u using "jump mats" or just jumping on a hard surface? Regardless, if you go to #jenellesfitnessvideos I think u will see some of the upper body & core workouts I did. Mine is a hamstring/glute injury ..pulled while doing sprint/stair workout. Basically I had to turn upper body & core workouts into cardio workouts (think lighter weights, more reps, little to no rest). Brainstorm a list of things u can do (you can do punches & kick drills too), pick 5 a day to do each for 1.5 min, 30 sec break in between & do 3 rounds & stretch 2w

I was jumping on a rug, but it's my own fault if not taking rest days now I have trouble just going up and down stairs. Thank you for your suggestions! Did you heal completely? My mom is in her mid 60's and although she played a big role with my sis @chalenejohnson & I getting into fitness (mom was an instructor), she has struggled with nutrition & consistency with workouts and nutrition. So she made a decision to cut out certain foods & grazing. She needed a consistent & convenient way to add more Vegan protein to her diet (she doesn't do well with Whey) so she started doing 1.5 scoops Vegan Shakeology for one of her meals-sometimes 2-along w/ #21DayFix and #TurboFire Workouts.
Now she's doing Chalene's #PiYo of course!! She's also a qualifying 1-Star Diamond Coach!! Way to go mom!

jenellesummers A salad a day keeps the Dr away!
Made this one & it looks like MANY of my others, but you never know who needs to see it for a little #foodspiration! I definitely recommend a salad a day (with a high protein source in it) for health & for fatloss purposes. But skip the candied nuts, the fattening dressings, the croutons, the side breadstick, & the HUGE portion sizes (unless you have huge macro nutrient needs). This was my usual grilled turkey burger, tomatoes, carrots, kale, baby spinach, spring mix, red onions & reduced fat feta #yumm

  •   nfabian I have an awesome friend (sisters sister in law) who is my coach and kindly sends me out the programs to Australia. I've lost about 10 lb so far and I'm in push circuit of Extreme. I really have to say God has helped give me the motivation to eat better and work out every day (now twice daily-adding in Piyo). I HATED exercise before BeachBody. Now I can't wait to press play every day!!! 3w
