jefffrandsen We all want to make an impact on this world. But many of us don't realize that it doesn't have to be on a global scale. Fame and fortune do not equate to happiness, we learned this last week. Build a community to rely on, a community that can rely on you. Don't ever feel like you cannot be vulnerable. Be open, as we are all broken. And you know all those things you wish people did for you? Go and do it for others! You'll begin to feel good about bringing a smile to someone's face. And always keep God in the foreground. We cannot do life alone. We shouldn't do life alone. And it goes beyond just a spouse. This ties into a lot of what @lcbcchurch talked about this past weekend, and a lot of what has been on my soul lately. Liz and I have gotten together with a few amazing couples, sharing newlywed stories, laughs and the Word. Don't do life alone. And if no one is calling you, take the initiative and call them. 1d

jefffrandsen I suffer from depression. It's been an on-going struggle for all my life. At times, it feels as if no one understands me and worse, no one cares. But this isn't a cry for help, I'm okay. With the sad news today, I can only hope it raises awareness that depression is serious. And if you're friends/family with someone who you see is struggling, don't abandon them. Be there for them. Offer your time, your space, and your ears. It's an unexplainable thing, a circuit of sadness, loneliness, and hopelessness. And if you're reading this and are relating to those feelings, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I am with you. Along with millions of other people. If you need someone to talk to, DM me and I promise I will listen. You are not alone. 1w
  •   rachelcszyszka Wow! Thank you for you openness. One thing awesome about this is, you have GOD on your side! Life will never be easy but with Him on our side, life battles are more possible to take on because we have FAITH and HOPE. 1w

jefffrandsen Why are we so desperate for likes and followers? Why do we let it affect our moods? Some days I just want to quit social media forever. I got my first roll developed from my new film camera and am starting to post them on my personal site (link in my profile). What I love about it is that it won't get any likes. A few months ago, I turned off all notifications on my phone. I still struggle to put my phone down at times because I still have that desire to be "liked." And I will check and see who's liked my posts. But honestly, we post stuff because they're important to us, because we worked hard to compose a piece of art, etc. And if you enjoy what you're doing, and take personal pride in your work, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE LIKES. It's detrimental to your soul. If you struggle sometimes like I do, I highly suggest turning off your Instagram notifications. Don't let a like, or lack-thereof, determine your mood. 2w

jefffrandsen Someone said to me "time flies when you're having fun" the other day. I laughed and agreed at the statement. But then I realized later that time flies regardless if you're having fun or not. So why are we wasting precious moments of our lives worrying about stuff that won't matter when we're on our death beds? Last night, when Liz and I jumped into bed, we could hear so many crickets through our windows. And while we only laid there for a few minutes listening (before watching yet another episode of The Killing), it was that simple moment that made me realize a lot of the blessings I have. Jack Johnson has a lyric that I love: "Slow down everyone, you're moving too fast. Frames can't catch you when you're moving like that." So tonight, with all that you're going through... take a deep breath and listen to the crickets. 2w

jefffrandsen Whoever says that nothing in life is free is wrong. Because God's love is. And it's everlasting. And He takes joy in doing us good. "The Lord will again take delight in prospering you" -Deuteronomy 30:9. And we're nothing like that. We have ups and downs, we get bored and then excited, we have good days and bad days. But God will always be there for you. And he'll never get bored of you. He wants to bless us. So keep the faith, even when all seems lost and feelings of loneliness and helplessness sink in. Pick up your Bible and read the proof. Read Deuteronomy. Chapters 10 and 30 to be precise. Choose to be happy today, because God loves you more than you can imagine. 2w

jefffrandsen We can only live for today. We can't change yesterday and we can't predict what tomorrow will bring. James 4:13-15 says "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”" Personally, I drown myself in worry all the time. I think too much about yesterday and I tip toe in hopes that I won't screw up tomorrow. But if tomorrow never comes, I would end up regretting that I didn't fully embrace today. We are all broken in one way or another. But each of us have one thing in common: Jesus. And if you say down and thought about it, I bet you'd be able to make a list of better things in your life than worse. Today might have been a rough day for you. But take heart. Joy comes in the morning. You owe it to yourself to jump out of bed and not let those inner demons to get the best of you. God has big plans for you. Go make them happen. 2w

jefffrandsen I took a walk the other night while my wife was at work. And while these cows have nothing to do about what I'm about to say, lately I've been pondering what my purpose is and how do I leave a lasting impact on this Earth. And then, as the typical millennial that I am... I googled "what is our purpose according to the Bible." I'm still a rookie when it comes to the Bible, so my search history looks a lot like that. Here's something I found: "The purpose of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. We glorify God by fearing and obeying Him, keeping our eyes on our future home in heaven, and knowing Him intimately. We enjoy God by following His purpose for our lives, which enables us to experience true and lasting joy -the abundant life that He desires for us." I'm not the type that wants to be rich and famous, none of that really appeals to me. Sure, I enjoy getting more Instagram followers, that I can't deny. But I want to glorify God in a way that fulfills my heart. I think of @VRSLY and that's only a small stepping stone for how I'd love to help others find Jesus. I want to be part of a community that lifts each other up and brings others closer to Jesus. I could ramble on and on. While I ponder what "my purpose" should be, it's selfish. My thoughts are all about me. But I want it to be less of me. And more about Him. More about my friends. More about my family. 2w

jefffrandsen Yesterday was baptism at @lcbcchurch and recently I've been keeping a journal at service, jotting down stuff I want to remember. During worship, hearing "You make all things work together for my good," just hit me hard. While I didn't get baptized yesterday, I felt renewed. It was a reminded that life goes on into eternity. And you can ask Jesus to help. You need Jesus. I need Jesus. Trust him with your life. Because he will help you today and be there for you for eternity. We all go through ups and downs. We all make mistakes. And while friends and family are great to confide in, it's Jesus who will ALWAYS be there for us. Always. And he has big plans for all of us. Trust that. And wants those plans to work for your good. Trust that. 2w

jefffrandsen There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. -‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭1-8‬ 4w
