jeffbiro As promised, here is the photo of Floe Lake, in all its still frozen glory. Read the story of the hike here on my previous post. After climbing through knee deep snow for a half km, this was the final reward for the 12km hike. I will post another one tonight. #explorebc 4h

jeffbiro This is part way along a great hike into Floe Lake. The hike starts easy, and with a not too hot temperature it seemed like we chose our day well. The first 7km was pretty, even though the majority of the trail is through the remains of a devastating forest fire from several years ago. Burnt remains of nature includes burnt stumps, fallen trees, and forests of still standing dead trees make this the nature equivalent of the walking dead... ZOMBIE TREES! Actually, that is an exaggeration, as there are plenty of wild flowers and new growth everywhere. Without the thick trees blocking the sun from hitting the ground, there is more opportunity for the other plants to grow. There was a lot of bear scat on the trail, luckily it was at least a few days old. After crossing a few avalanche areas, we reached the part of the trail that was covered in swiftly moving creeks. The creeks widened and we had to hike up and through them to reach the other side of the trail. Thanks to Parks Canada for marking the trail well with orange ribbon as it would have been easy to lose it here. After that, there are steep switchbacks where we hit snow. This was a novelty at first, but as it got deeper, it was less endearing. And cold, colder than Keanu Reeves acting style. Then we heard what we thought was an airplane, but it was an avalanche across the mountain. Wow. Climbing steadily we then were hit by a huge drop in temperature as it started to sleet and we were pelted by snow, rain and hail. All the while Ho-Tay and Mitch we're excited to keep going, although the rest of us weren't so sure. At the top the trail disappeared but we could see we were so close to the mountain top we had to be close to the lake. A little further and we were rewarded with a great view as the trees disappeared and the lake was in sight. A great view in the cold and wet. I will post a photo of the Lake tomorrow. #explorebc 16h

  •   jeffbiro @hockey4416 hahahaha FOR SURE. The way these guys were eating dandelions not even my yard could feed them for long. 15min

jeffbiro I'm eating artisanal small batch granola outside like I'm some kind of a hipster doofus. All I need is a well groomed beard, a man bun, and some eyeglass frames without lenses. #Banff 2d

jeffbiro On the way to my long weekend I saw 2 Grizzlies and this black bear. Of course my camera was packed away, so this iPhone pic will have to do. Camping out tonight near Radium, BC. #explorebc 3d

jeffbiro Misty mornings, when the clouds cover the mountains in a thin blanket, thinner than the blanket Oliver Twist gets at his orphanage. #Banff 3d

jeffbiro Mitch just realized how cold the water is and now he's moving so fast the Flash is jealous. #Banff 4d

jeffbiro And the clouds rolled in, swirling off the mountains setting a somber mood in the rain. And then Ho-Tay started to dig, because he's an idiot. #Banff 4d

jeffbiro From my dog walk a few minutes ago. I was wetter than Michael Phelps after a bong hit in the shower. #Banff 5d

jeffbiro Yesterday I posted a photo of this lake with a smooth rock, today I chose a rock more angular like my well chiseled abs. #Banff 5d

jeffbiro The water and mountain air here smells fresh and clean, similar to what I imagine Beyoncé's breath smells like after she has pop tarts and banana yogurt for breakfast. I'm guessing, of course. #Banff 6d

jeffbiro I took this photo a month ago at one of my favorite spots to visit before all the ice disappeared, I hope you like it. I didn't have to elbow anyone to take the photo. If you watch Canadian politics you know we like our elbows. #Banff 6d

jeffbiro Cloudy days, the kind where my hands get cold even before I leave the house. If there is anyone out there that is able to supply a warm spot under their armpits for my hands when we go out taking photos together, we can be best friends. Wait, was that weird? #Banff 1w

jeffbiro Ho-Tay saunters along the riverbank. Sometimes he moves like Gene Kelly and sometimes he's more like Mick Jagger. For you youngsters out there who don't know who these guys are, I hate you all. #Banff 1w

jeffbiro The trees speak to me. Haha just kidding, only a guy with a man bun would write something like that. #Banff

jeffbiro Mid day photo, when the light is so bright you start getting mad at yourself for being a lazy ass and sleeping in, missing the perfect golden light at those times. Maybe someday soon I'll have to venture out here for sunrise or sunset. This is truly a first world problem. #Banff 1w
