jasonwhitely Takeshi Yoshino and his wife Natsuco Grace converted their basement Ramen restaurant into a Texas themed tavern. They even bought an old barn in Justin, TX, dismantled it and shipped it 6,400 miles to Tokyo to decorate the walls of the bar. Live country & western music nightly by some of Japan's most loyal adopted Texans. WFAA produced a story a few weeks ago about their place and explained why they have to fly to @dfwairport twice a year to support their investment. 7d

  •   brennty I'm heading to Tokyo for the first time in June! I need your to-do travel guide! 1d
  •   jasonwhitely @brennty -- Drinks at The New York Bar on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku. Get up early one morning and visit the Tsukiji Fish Market. Have sushi there for breakfast. Tokyo has more Michelin rated restaurants than anywhere in the world. Some are cheap. Google one and enjoy. The Senso-Ji shrine and market at Asakusa is a good stop. Use the famous crosswalk at Shibuya. Explore the backstreets there and in Shinjuku. Hope you enjoy it. Tokyo is fun! 1d
  •   brennty @jasonwhitely thank you so much! I am so excited! I'm counting down! 24h
  •   jasonwhitely @brennty Looking forward to your pics! 24h

jasonwhitely Mr. Aihara runs one of my favorite restaurants in the world - Toriki. It seats 20, is hard to find in a southwestern suburb of Tokyo and is all things grilled chicken. The birds are killed daily and are carved up by him each night for the salarymen who live nearby and the few tourists who can find it. 1w

jasonwhitely Before the Oscar statuettes, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences awarded these small but heavy plaques to winning filmmakers. This specific one went to John Leipold in 1939 for Best Music on the John Wayne film "Stagecoach" - believed by many to be one of the best Western of all time.
Because this early style of Oscar on a plaque is so rare, it's valued at $100,000.

jasonwhitely One of the best TV storytellers I know is leaving WFAA today after 18-years. Janet St. James was the last full-time broadcast medical reporter in Texas (who broke the Ebola story w/ a Tweet). Maybe now though, the rest of us can have a shot now at winning an award or two! 1mon
