jasonwhitely REFORMER: Dallas Councilman Jerry Allen led the push several years ago to tighten regulations on payday lenders that charge 400% interest on small loans to many who can't afford it. Since then, only 125 of the 240 payday lending storefronts remain in Dallas. In that time, 22 other Texas cities have adopted similar ordinances. On Wednesday, Allen will announce a new non-profit to compete against payday lenders that will make loans at 18% and allow one year to repay them. Allen said he thinks this new program will also be a model for other cities.

jasonwhitely “When I was in the White House … we never fired a bullet, we never dropped a bomb, we never launched a missile," said former President Jimmy Carter. He was the first U.S. president born in a hospital and the first evangelical Christian elected to the White House. Today, at age 90, Carter still hunts on his farm in Georgia and spends one week every year building houses for Habitat for Humanity. Since joining the organization in the mid 80s, Carter has helped build or repair 3,800 homes - including 100+ in Dallas and Fort Worth this month. In a sit-down interview, the 39th President told us that American ground troops aren't a good idea to fight ISIS and perhaps most revealing Carter says same-sex marriage should be left up to the states rather than mandated federally. As for his own legacy, "I think the two words I would like to have describe me was I kept the peace and I did all I could to promote human rights." The entire interview with President Carter airs on "Inside Texas Politics" this Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. on WFAA Channel 8. 2mon

jasonwhitely Fortunate to have flown to a lot of places around the world but this flight is a first for me - DFW-DAL. I was on board the ceremonial repositioning of the Virgin America flight today when the SFO-based airline moved its Texas operations from DFW to Love Field. VX now flies LAX, SFO, DCA and LGA on Oct. 28 from two gates in Dallas. 2mon

jasonwhitely Nina Pham, 26, is the second Ebola patient in Dallas. Her family shared this image of her and confirmed to WFAA that she is being treated at Texas Health Presbyterian. Pham, a nurse, was somehow infected with the deadly virus while helping treat the first patient - Thomas Eric Duncan. Her dog, pictured with her, remains locked inside her apartment in the M Streets. It is being cared for by Dallas Animal Services. 2mon

jasonwhitely The Emirates #A380 Cabin Crew has an iconic look. The airline replaced its 777 with the double decker A380 today on the Dubai to Dallas / Fort Worth route. The jet flies the 8,000 mile trip in about 15-hours. Emirates will be able to double passenger capacity with this 489-seat super jumbo jet. Since it began flying to DFW two and a half years ago, Emirates has carried 460,000 passengers here. 3mon

jasonwhitely DFW Airport had to make $4-million in improvements to Terminal D just so the #A380 could start flying here. It reinforced concrete at the gate, added two new jet bridges to the one already at Gate D 15 and put 250 additional seats in the waiting area to accommodate all the extra passengers. 3mon
