isamanzana #Repost from @kinoyoga with @repostapp --- We all do stupid things sometimes. We all make mistakes. We all get into arguments about things when really we should know better. That's life. Today was one of those days for me. I got into a fender bender with someone who immediately went into a tirade that included yelling at me, hitting my car and blaming me. I had to take a step back and make sure I wasn't on a reality TV show. Normally aggression makes me crumble and cry but I did my best to stay strong and focused on what I wanted, which a peaceful resolution. When I apologized and offered to find a peaceful, easy solution and I asked this person what she wanted her response was that she wanted me suffer and she called the cops. After the police officer heard our stories, he pulled her aside and recommended her to find a peaceful resolution for a few scratches on both cars out of which no one could clearly be placed at fault in his eyes. Thankfully she did heed his advice and we worked it out and left with mutual understanding. That peace was available right from the start, but she didn't see it or accept. Instead she fought against it. It took a lot for her to see the peaceful solution but eventually it did prevail. Imagine how hard it is for the world to be at peace if someone will totally loose their calm over a few scratches on a car!? Whenever I have a disagreement with anyone I always focus on what I want, which is usually peace and then take steps to move towards that. Nothing is really worth harming another person with words or actions for. Difficult situations happen but how you respond to them is evidence of how far (or how little) you've walked along the yoga path. Focus on the solution, not the problem. Vengeance is its own punishment against the person who seeks it, anger harms the person who harbors it the most. Peace is its own reward, like the sun shining through the clouds after a stormy day.
