hexapoda What are your top three favorite books? Mine are Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and Candide by Voltaire. Although the majority of the books I read are science and science fiction and I could name off a million favorites, those three stand out to me. 1d
  •   dirtyal32 also the metamorphosis is amazing 14h
  •   hexapoda @dwamdwamdwam le Guin is from Portland! But I haven't had a chance to read any of her books. 14h
  •   hexapoda @thelifeofpoetry it's so good. 14h
  •   hexapoda @roxykatz I tried Snow Crash but never finished it. I read Anne Rice (and Stephen King) all through high school, so addicting! 14h
  •   hexapoda @rotarded what is Meg? 14h
  •   roxykatz @hexapoda haha, yeah i almost didn't finish snow crash...Stephenson, imho, always seems to "crash land" (lol see what i did there XD) his books...his endings are always rough, for me (maybe others disagree, but that's how i feel). But i like his style and overall work so much, I'll go back and endlessly reread his books XD and oh em gee, i was a complete Stephen king and Anne rice addict in high school!!!!! I read firestarter so many times i had to rebind it twice and finally had to retire the poor thing. It's still sitting delicately perched on my shelf lol. <3 books *le sigh* 14h
  •   dwamdwamdwam REALLY ? Damn you have too. It's so good. Between sci-fi and ethnology and philosophy. Such interesting reflexion about sexism and gender, and she invented several planets and societies REALLY different, with no gender binary or very different traditions, social organizations and relationships customs - so it's a very good way to reflect on our constructions and way of living. 12h
  •   dwamdwamdwam I really advice the Left Hand of Darkness, the birthday of the world, the Dispossessed - and the Earthsea Quartet (that one different, it's more fantasy) 12h

hexapoda My #womancrushwednesday this week is @xpalesaentx. You should follow her unless you're going to report her images because you think she's too skinny or something. This girl is a badass and a sweetheart, her images are apparently controversial, keep it up, lady #wcw photo by @darryldarko from a while back. 3d

hexapoda From Lucian: " Zeus: why, don't you know, Cyiniscus, what punishments await the wicked when life is over, and what happiness the good abide?" Cyniscus: do you talk to me of Hades and of Tityus and Tantalus and their like? For my part, when I die I shall find out for certain whether the is really any such thing, but for the present I prefer to live out my time in happiness, however short it may be, and then have my liver torn by sixteen vultures after my death, rather than go as thirsty as Tantalus here on earth and do my drinking in the Isles of the Blest, lying at my ease among the heroes in the Elysian Fields." Geeking out on ancient philosophy while I boil in the summer heat. 4d

hexapoda Philosophical question time; what does it mean to be happy? Is it having everything you want? Is it having power or control over your life? Is it better to do good or to have good done to you? Is happiness an activity or passivity? I'm writing an essay and would like some input from real people. 1w
  •   dyosmos This is a perfect description of happiness: http://orthoclas.tumblr.com/post/95307331755/cheezbenis-this. !! You gotta check it out and sorry that I don't know any other way than pasting the link.. 1w
  •   dailyaviator I gain happy sea from my confidence. Confidence with everyday's life, confidence with the situation I am in. Nothing Hollywood-a-like, just a regular life. It makes me happy that I an confident with it without reaching for I reachable heights, without missing things and without being sad about not having this or that. Once I was in this confident state I wasn't just happy about it, I also get daily happiness from the small things. 1w
  •   dailyaviator Sorry, 'happy sea' is supposed to say 'happiness'. And 'I reachable = unreachable'. 1w
  •   astrodamuss Happiness is being content. If you're satisfied with all aspects of your life, then that's happiness IMO. 1w
  •   hiyamanda 1w
  •   _makurayami It's easier and longer lasting to gain happiness from doing good to others, weather it be from a smile to someone who's having a bad day or just helping out someone in need. Spreading happiness and joy through ones own actions is the only way you can be sure that the feeling of being happy is going to stick around for a long time. 1w
  •   eatcops Happiness is being faithful to yourself. 1w
  •   rotarded Kind of odd when I think about it, mainly because I can't pinpoint an exact definition. I think it's a mix of everything you've said. None of those things inherently make me happy alone but when blended together into a delicious frothy happyccino, aw yeah, that's the good stuff. 1w
