helene_fr The architects behind Shijiazhuang's south station, which was completed at the end of 2012, definitely did not have "human scale" in mind when they built it. The monstrously tall and large train station handles both normal and new high speed trains. The cream- colored building, that dwarfs and seems to swallow the people coming in and out of it, reminds of Stalin-era architecture works. Friendly, is what the station isn't. #hebei #china #shijiazhuang #onassignment #train #travel 1d

helene_fr In a village in Hebei province. Located next to a small river, the village was relatively prettier than its neighbours. The region however remains very dry and dusty. Most parents have left to find work as 民工 (migrant workers) in the province capital, Shijiazhuang, or in Beijing, which is a couple hours away by train. The children remain in the village and are usually brought up by the elderly. #china #hebei #village #everydaylife #onassignment 3d

helene_fr 6pm, sandstorm sweeping across Beijing. Strong winds blew thick dust and sand, leaving the sky grey/orange and sending pollution levels to 378 at 7pm. Friendly Beijing... #china #beijing #airpollution #storm #apocalypsenow 2w

helene_fr Doors closed, a construction site is left empty, like dozens more at the Tianjin Binhai new economic zone. Dozens of unfinished buildings, empty cranes, dusty office space sales centers can be found there, on the east side of Tianjin city, near Beijing. Avenues are silent and totally empty; we struggled to find someone to interview. According to a shop owner, buildings have been left untouched for about 3 or 4 years already. The "new normal" for Chinese economy? 2mon
