heidi_k Kaitlyn is 11 today. :-) She's so expressive and funny. She just finished giving a birthday speech she prepared (in which she quoted Dickens and finished with 'God bless America!'). She makes me laugh. :-) Happy Birthday, Kait the Great! <3 3w

heidi_k Happy 8th Birthday, John Paul! I can't believe our baby is 8 already. I tend to take life a little too seriously sometimes so I'm thankful God sent this sweet, funny, bright little man into my life. He makes me smile, laugh, think and just marvel at his view of the world every day. He's such a blessing! 4mon

heidi_k JRR Tolkien died 42 years ago today. About 32 years ago, I was a child sitting in a classroom when my teacher read these words: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit..." and I was hooked for life. The Hobbit is easily the book I've read (alone and as a read aloud for my children) more often than any other book and I think The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest books ever written. I'm always astounded by the depth of LOTR: the history, languages, characters, geography, and story all from one man's mind and the gift and skill of putting it all on paper for millions to read and love. 5mon

heidi_k I spent a good part of the afternoon cleaning the refrigerator. There was a bottle of caramel sauce (upside down, naturally) in one of the door shelves. I'll let you guess whether the cap was still on it and how much was left in the bottle when I found it. That stuff can travel! :-/ So, for the next half hour, I'm taking a well-earned tea break and pretending to be Marguerite Blakeney. ;-) 6mon

heidi_k First day of college. How is that even possible? It seems like yesterday I was teaching him to read. It was also our first day of school for the new school year. Went pretty well. It's good to get back into our "normal" routine after a nice summer break. :-) 6mon

heidi_k Day 2: Sisters. I don't have a sister, but here are my only girls. The happiest day of my older daughter's life was the day her sister was born. (She had 4 brothers at the time). ;-) They don't always get along, of course, but I'm glad they have each other. <3 <3 6mon

heidi_k Day 31: The view from here. Sitting outside and it's absolutely perfect. I wish I could bottle up this weather and save it for those days in February when the cabin fever and the doldrums are the worst. ;-) 7mon
