heatherboersma This little man and I had been in a bit of a funk a month ago. He was pushing all my buttons, I was reacting out of anger and pulling away, making him act out even more. Then I started hugging more and threatening less. Doing time ins instead of time outs. Being firm and calm instead of yielding in anger. And what do ya know, things are getting better. Kindness is powerful. 2d
  •   erikagillian Totally agree! My son is a similar age... And we just went through a rough week 2d
  •   pamelalorraine Where you were with him a month ago is totally where I am with my 2 year old right now. What do you mean by time ins? 2d
  •   heatherboersma @pamelalorraine instead of making him leave and go sit by himself somewhere, I remove him from the situation (ex.hitting his sister), but sit with him. Offer a hug. Still set a boundary, but do it in closeness with him. This doesn't work if I'm already to my breaking point, but I'm slowly learning to stop things before I get to that point (on the good days!) so that I can stay calm and offer affection, even while re-establishing a firm boundary. Does that make sense? 2d
  •   pamelalorraine Totally! Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it!! :) 1d
  •   daily_rebecca This JUST happened with my 4yo daughter and me. I'm blown away by how drawing close changed everything. 1d
  •   charissasteyn Thank you for this, been in a funk with my two year old lately!! 23h
  •   kelliskrafts I needed this! 20h
  •   laurenwasher Thank you for sharing this! I'm dealing with the same issues with my 4 year old girl. Proverbs 15:1 has been such a good reminder to me in responding to her. "A gentle answer turns away wrath." 17h

  •   thehipsterhousewife @heatherboersma nice to meet you as well! 2d
  •   thelifeinbetween Too cold! I'm so sad that the beautiful fall leaves here are already almost gone. But I guess that just means we're closer to Christmas!
This is an adorable picture! And I'm also a recovering people-pleaser! Do they have 12 steps for this? Because, what a STRUGGLE. 2d

heatherboersma Our beliefs are the framework on which we build our lives. But what if we've been believing the lie that we're not good enough? That we'll never change? Today I'm praying that truth would replace lies, even if it means tearing down and rebuilding. 3d

heatherboersma "Mom, I want the BIG snow! It's just so hard to wait." I think he might be the only Manitoban thinking this... 1w
  •   stephjt No... If we have snow, we might as well have BIG snow! Just not the cold temps! Ha! I agree Cohen, bring on the big snow!! 1w
  •   thescribblepad I think he is on to something! Big snow but not frigid temps. Last year each of our snow falls had teen or single digit temps (or well below zero temps in celsius) so it was too cold to play. 😬 (teeth chatter) 1w
