heartforhugs I'm living in a bubble of isolation with little energy and lots of coughing. So fill me in--what have I missed? How can I pray for you as I recover?

heartforhugs It's been quite the week.
Spending my birthday in Isolation was certainly memorable, but I am happy to be home and on the mend. I've been sick since Sunday with Influenza which landed me in the hospital. Happy Birthday week to me!

heartforhugs Sermon excerpt from tonight: "We, too, are a notoriously forgetful people. Forgetting who we are, forgetting whose we are, forgetting where we come from and forgetting wherever it was we thought we were going.
The cure is not just in being thankful, but in remembering. And we are, as God’s people, a community remembrance." #sogratefulforthiscall #pastor

heartforhugs I have some cool friends. This guy is one who can make me laugh, listen so deeply, share his heart, and encourage adventure all in a single walk around a lake. He is understanding and excitable, engaging and grounded. I can talk freely without fear of judgment or a barrage of advice. I can vent or gush or really whatever we need that day. His honesty is refreshing. His heart is warm and concerned for those he loves. He shows his true self and doesn't hold back with me. We can be creative even as we talk and appreciate light and photogenic moments together. I am so grateful for our time together this weekend. (And so sorry you lost your keys for this shot!) #makeportraits 4w

heartforhugs 5/5 for @indie_writer And @itsranan
Comfort: My only comfort in life and even in my death is and will be that I belong, body and soul, to my faithful savior Jesus Christ--it is he who makes me willing and ready, eager even, to live for him.The center of my call is to receive, to agree to spend time being loved by God and to show up to my life when it is much easier to be busy.

heartforhugs Continuing the challenge from @indie_writer and @itsranan to share some of my values, here is number 4.

4/5 Curiosity: a holy mischief, creative exercises, textbook information, self discovery, playing with Legos, emotional intelligence, conferences, random hobbies of friends, an untouched instrument, a deceased author turned conversation partner, building forts, hearing stories of past generations... Be a lifelong learner and allow the world around you to enrich your life and continue to open you to these movements of the Spirit. #UpandAutumn

heartforhugs Part 3/5 of the values challenge from @itsranan and @indie_writer
Critical Thinking. Engage in reflection and thinking. I seek to love God with my mind as much as I do my heart, soul, and strength. I am not God. Therefore it is inevitable that some of my beliefs and viewpoints may be completely wrong no matter how firmly I hold them. Until I understand the arguments of those who disagree with me and can articulate them, I do not understand my own viewpoint well. I try to assume that those with whom I disagree are just as intelligent as I am and have motives as noble (or more so) as my own. #UpandAutumn

heartforhugs Part 2/5 of the values challenge from @itsranan and @indie_writer
2) Conflict: conflict means difficult conversations are important because of the commitment to the relationship. I learn where I end and encounter your 'other' in this space of disagreement. In conflict I am moving toward someone rather than away (which is easier) and which demands vulnerability. It is where my thinking and operating in the world is challenged and the place of growth and learning. Jesus invites us into his death and resurrection; places of conflict and suffering are part of our union with Christ. #jumpstagram

heartforhugs I was tagged by my pal Ranan (@itsranan )to share some of my values in life and because I love him, I will. I'd love to hear some of your values too, (but don't want anyone to feel pressured or left out) so if you share some, tag me so I can read it! Different days I may answer this differently, but over the next few posts, I will share 5 themes and I made the, all start with C because that sounded like a fun challenge:

1) Community & People: It is more important to me that people know they are loved than that they know what I believe or stand for/against. I am created for community (with God, with others, and with myself) and I pray I am living into that to the glory of God. It is beyond warm fuzzies but where all can bring their wounds, their quirks, and simply be held in that space. #makeportraits

heartforhugs Companion.

Why does hiking with a dog bring so much joy? Because seizing the moment and following your curiosity into unknown territory is the very nature of dogs. They appreciate the simple walk in the woods as if it is the greatest of adventures. Every step keeps them bounding into life with energy and exuberance. But they don't keep it to themselves, they seek to share it. They bring the little joys as gifts to you; they bring their exuberance and beg you to join in it with them. We have much to learn from dogs. #UpandAutumn

heartforhugs Friday.

TGIF. (Does anyone else remember this TV movement?) Had an amazing afternoon getting lost in Skagit Valley with this lady today. Laughter, espresso, wandering, and long drives make any day better. To share them with Alison made it tremendous. And the weather was superb! What adjectives would you add? #makeportraits

heartforhugs Tonight after a movie party watching Frozen and painting some itty bitty little fingers and toes, I had the distinct honor to be invited into of the sacredness of bedtime stories. Not only did this little one snuggle up all evening on my lap, but it was my delight to get to read her bedtime stories with her. Those tender and fleeting moments: full of trust, wonder, expectation, giggles, and weariness that longs to be held. These most vulnerable moments of life are so filled with the Sacred. (Also is is my new favorite Children's Book) #posttheordinary 1mon

heartforhugs Reading the book Daring Greatly by Brené Brown and loving it. She reminded me of this moment from the Velveteen Rabbit: “Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.” ― Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

heartforhugs Note to self:
Take a step back, inhale. Remember who you are and ground yourself--return home. Return to this identity and find love yourself. That nose ring is your reminder for those days you wonder who you are. Return to you baptism. Love yourself. #honestcaptions
