healthy_cravings "THEY" can be anyone. Not necessarily meaning non-black. I also find that many (not all) African-Americans are notorious for this. In the past I have also been guilty of identifying everything but my East African decent when people ask my ethnicity.
_
As of now, I hear this a lot when it comes to my daughter London but surprisingly enough it's mostly from other ethnicities and not African americans. I hear, "She's so beautiful, what is she mixed with?" or when I am by myself they assume her father is Asian or Hispanic. My husband and I were together at a Vietnamese restaurant and the owner couldn't take her eyes off London, she kept coming back to our table to play with London and then she asked us: What are you both mixed with?, We told her "we are "black."... She then proceeded to say: "No, that baby is mixed with something. She is so beautiful. Are you sure your grandparents weren't Asian or something, because that baby looks mixed with Asian." ..........
We just sat there in amazement as we continued to eat our food, we truly couldn't fault her as she was an elder and I am sure she grew up with the mindset that if an African American baby is light skin with curly hair and also "pretty" he/she has to be mixed. Well let me just say that...
___
Black is beautiful♡
We come in all shades and colors. We have a variety of looks with unique features. Our amazing and versatile hair comes in different lengths and textures. Majority of us age gracefully... Being "black" is a blessing not a curse. I am proud of my East African Heritage♡ And whatever ethnicity you are.. you should be proud of it too.
_
☆This message was written in love with no intent to diss any other race of people... I am now (in my older age) learning to accept ME and be proud of my ethnicity. I wanted to be everything but African American when I was younger, always amplifying my Native American, Irish, etc... Because I felt black wasn't beautiful or good enough (brainwashed by images on t.v. and society).. Yes, I have other bloodlines running through my veins but the MOST dominant one shows through my beautiful features.
God bless♡

  •   ab_the_great There is no such thing as looking mixed. You can be dark as my iphone and be mixed. There is no pure race! You can be dark as my iphone and have more white in you than a light person, its called genetics!! Straight hair gene, not so str8 hair gene and etc. look at the beautiful black kids of Solomon Islands. Blond hair, gorgeous dark skin and black. I'm light skinned, i have long hair to my ass and I'm a black woman and proud!!! White and black people want me to say I'm mixed so bad, but guess what not today! Its like saying you have to have big lips, big nose, no hair to@say youre black and thats not the case. Wake up! 1h
  •   veganqueenlife I love it 1h
  •   augusttreasure Great post and on time post! I too have other bloodlines running through my veins. My hair is afro texture but very curly and EVERYDAY people (white, black, Hispanic, etc) ask me if I am mixed or Dominican. In high school kids called me the Hispanic chick because of my hair. I told them I am black just like you all. On my ID I identify as an African woman born in America. The same for all of my job apps and anything we have to specify our race in. I am proud to be all that the Most High created me to be. 52min
  •   sonji_romine My children and I get asked OFTEN by people, "What are you? Are you Italian, or Greek, or black?" We are white, but because we have dark curly hair, olive complexions and strong facial bones they assume we are mixed. The majority of people who ask me (strangers) are black. I don't take any offense to being asked any of the questions. I think people just don't realize white people can be dark with coarse curly hair. It's funny because if they're black they ask if we're mixed. If they're Greek they ask if we're Greek and if they're middle eastern they ask that, etc. 41min

healthy_cravings Tonight's Dinner: Osekihan | Japanese Red Bean Rice
Author: Judy | Bebe Love Okazu
_
☆Ingredients:
2½ cups white or black rice
½ cup glutinous rice (like sushi rice)
½ cup Japanese red azuki beans
¼ teaspoon sea salt
Water
1 teaspoon roasted black sesame seeds
¼ teaspoon crushed Hawaiian rock salt, Himalayan, or Sea salt
_ ☆Instructions:
•Wash azuki beans and drain. Add beans to a pot with 2½ cups water. Boil for 20 to 30 minutes. Drain the beans but reserve cooking liquid and allow it to cool.
•Cover beans with plastic wrap so that the beans do not dry out.
Wash glutinous rice and white rice until water runs clear. Drain rice.
•Combine rice and beans in the rice cooker, along with ¼ teaspoon table salt and reserved cooking liquid.
•Add additional water according to your rice cooker's measurements to make 3 cups water and steam the rice with the azuki beans.
•Meanwhile, make "gomashio" by combining roasted black sesame seeds and salt. Set this aside.
_
☆NOTE: Feel free to add your personal touch to this recipe as a recipe is just a guideline.
☆Black sesame seeds can be purchased roasted. If they are raw, just heat the sesame seeds in a dry pan for about 3 to 5 minutes, continuously shaking the pan or stirring the sesame seeds so that they don't burn.
☆Once the rice is cooked, serve osekihan in individual rice bowls and garnish with the black sesame seed and salt mixture.

healthy_cravings This is a salad that I created when my husband and I detoxed together. This salad was fun to create and it tasted as good as the picture looks. It was crisp and refreshing and the dressing was amazing! I will definitely be making this salad again.

Handful of Alfalfa or Broccoli Sprouts

healthy_cravings I have been eating Japanese food (sushi and the like) since i was a little girl and I have had a love for seaweed since middle school. Now I have passed on the love of seaweed to London who absolutely loves to snack on the Superfood because it is "Finger lickin' good!" _
Seaweeds are one of nature's true wonder foods! They are one of the most nutritionally dense plants on the planet and also the most abundant source of minerals in the plant kingdom as they have access to all the nutrients in the ocean.
_
Benefits of Seaweeds: Blood Purifying High in Calcium Alkalizing Powerful Chelating Properties Anti-oxidant Detoxifying Boost Weight Loss
_
Different Types Of Seaweed: •Nori •Kelp •Dulse •Arame •Wakame •Kombu
_
When sourcing or buying seaweed, choose certified organic brands where possible. Seaweeds will absorb the properties of the water in which they are grown, so you want to ensure that they have been grown and harvested in unpolluted waters that are pure, and free from harmful chemicals.
_
☆How do you like to eat your seaweed and which brand and/or type is your favorite?

healthy_cravings Natural and antibacterial  homemade mouthwash
_
DiYNatural.com strives to create recipes that are easy to make, inexpensive, and effective – this mouthwash recipe is all that and even has antibacterial and antifungal properties to help keep bad breath at bay.
_
Here’s all you need to make this simple mouthwash: A container – Use a small mason jar
½ cup filtered or distilled water (find the best water purification systems here: www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com)
2 tsp baking soda (Bob's Redmill Aluminum-Free)
2 drops tea tree essential oil (e-mail me for 100% pure essential oils: ILOVEHEALTHYCRAVINGS@GMAIL.COM )
2 drops peppermint essential oil
_
☆Baking soda will settle to the bottom of the jar when not in use, so be sure to shake mouthwash before each use.  Swish about 2-3 teaspoons of this homemade formula in your mouth for a minute or two. As with any mouthwash, try to avoid swallowing this while gargling.
_
☆Feel free to double this recipe for a larger batch. Making really big batches is not recommended because the oils will continue to blend over time and flavors can change.

☆I N G R E D I E N T S :
Herbs, Spices and Botanicals
mint • basil • rosemary • lavender • thyme • ginger • cinnamon • sage • rose petals • vanilla • lemongrass • cardamom • parsley • lemon verbena • cilantro • cloves • cardamom • hibiscus • black pepper • chammomile • lemon verbena AND MORE
_
☆Fruit and Veggies: strawberries • blackberries • blueberries • raspberries • cherries • pineapple • watermelon • cucumber • orange • lemon • lime • grapefruit • watermelon • cantaloupe • honeydew • mango • grapes • pear • apples • peaches • plums • nectarines • blood orange • meyer lemon • tangerines • pomegranate • kiwi • carrots • celery • peppers • fennel AND MORE
_
☆Optional Add-ins:
sweetener
chia seeds
coconut water
sparkling water
_
☆R E C I P E : For infused water, there really is no recipe, exactly. There are no right or wrong measurements, it’s all based on taste and what you have on hand.
Generally, just add all of the ingredients to my pitcher or jar (or glass), slightly mashing up any fruit to release their juices. Next, bruise the leaves of any herbs (in hands) to release the natural extracts and oils. Finally, top with some filtered water and enjoy! Letting it sit in the fridge for an hour or so really allows the flavors to mesh together. The longer it sits, obviously the better and stronger the flavor will be.
You can also blend the water and fruit together with a touch of sweetener for homemade fruit water.
_
☆N O T E S : Select fresh organic produce and herbs whenever possible, you want your ingredients to be pesticide-free
You can peel citrus before infusing to avoid excess bitterness.
For smaller herbs and botanicals like dried lavender or peppercorns, add them to a cheesecloth when infusing
_
☆S T O R A G E : Infused waters can be stored in airtight jars or pitchers as shown above, mason jar, glass pitcher, water bottle, gallon jug, etc. Keep in the refrigerator for about a week or until the flavor is no longer present. We tend to drink and add more water to replace the water we just poured out, adding more fruit or flavors as necessary, until it just no longer has a pronounced flavor.

healthy_cravings ♡D.I.Y. HOMEMADE SCRUBS♡
TAG SOMEONE & SHARE THIS INFO!
_
Body scrubs are wonderful because they... Remove the dead layer of cells on your skin's surface, revealing the younger cells beneath, and leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth.
Contain natural oils that moisturise and feed your skin.
Contain essential oils with aromatherapy properties. You can combine scents to relax, soothe, energise, or create a romantic mood.
_
Homemade Body Scrubs 101: The basic ingredients - All body scrubs, even ones you buy in the store, contain just 3 primary ingredients:

1. An Exfoliant
Basically a gritty substance of some sort. Sugar and salt are the most common, and have the benefit that they dissolve in water so they don't leave any mess in your bathtub. ☆Salt is great for relaxing your muscles. Some people prefer to use sea salt or epsom salt, because it is less processed than table salt, contains a wider variety of trace elements and minerals, and is said to be kinder on the skin. Whatever salt you use, grind it finely, i.e. to a similar consistency to table salt, because coarse grains can feel a little too exfoliating. ☆Sugar feels slightly gentler on your skin than salt. You can use either brown, white, or coconut sugar. Coconut & brown smells yummy, especially if you mix it with a little vanilla essential oil. ☆Ground coffee smells divine, and the caffeine may even have some benefits for your skin. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning that it causes blood vessels to constrict, so it can temporarily reduce varicose veins and rosacea. ☆Oatmeal is the gentlest of the exfoliants. It is an emollient, meaning that it softens and hydrates your skin. You can use it with a bit of water instead of a carrier oil. ☆Other options include almond meal, flax meal (ground linseeds), rice bran, wheat bran, and ground nut shells. I've heard that ground nut shells can really be quite scratchy against your skin.

healthy_cravings Thanks to my cousin for tagging me in this so I didn't have to create this picture myself. I have posted this homemade cough syrup recipe before but this is a better illustration as you can screen shot it and keep it saved to your phone for future use. I don't advise giving this to your children as it may be too spicy for them but people I know have done so with no harm caused. Honey can be substituted with Blackstrap Molasses. To make a lot for a large household just double, triple, etc. the recipe. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 week. After that make a fresh batch.. the fresher the better!
_____
■You can also boil (2 thumb-sized) chopped up organic ginger roots in 1.5 cups of purified water, strain and add raw organic honey or Blackstrap molasses and add juice from 1/2 an organic lemon and consume.

healthy_cravings The health benefits of lemon include its use as a treatment of fever, throat infections, indigestion, constipation, dental problems, and fever, internal bleeding, rheumatism, burns, obesity, respiratory disorders, cholera and high blood pressure, while it also benefits hair and skin. Also used as a natural cleaning agent. Known for its therapeutic property since generations, lemon helps to strengthen your immune system, cleanse your stomach, and it is considered a blood purifier. Lemon juice with olive oil is known as a useful treatment for kidney stones. The scent of lemon can also repel mosquitos!
_
■How To Keep Lemons For 1 Month🍋: Sealing lemons in freezer sized zip lock bags dry (with no trace of water inside)in the refrigerator... works! The lemons will stay for up to 1 month! Longer-lasting lemons mean that you can count on them for meals, right down to their last drop. If you know you'll use them quickly (before they go bad) and want a nice scent and added beauty in your kitchen then put them on your countertop, but if not, they need to go in the fridge and when needed let them sit out until they reach room temperature and continue with use. Roll your lemons before using as they will produce more juice.🍋

■Do you refrigerate your lemons sealed in large zip lock bags? Or have you found another way to keep citrus fresh for a month or longer? ♡@memoirs_of_amber

  •   healthy_cravings I haven't heard of that luv. But you would only need to refrigerate them if you have a lot and don't want them to go bad.. otherwise leave them on the counter and use as you wish. In my case, my little one picked so many for us to take back to VA that they would go bad before we can eat them all so I need a long term plan. But I definitely will be using them for multiple uses. I will post soon on how to grow a small organic lemon tree inside your home effectively. @jennfowl 1w

  •   healthy_cravings Cut a hole at the top of the lemon & Suck on the lemon like you would a cough drop. Make sure that the lemon is clean of course. @margos41 1w
  •   healthy_cravings You can also mix lemon juice & raw organic honey in hot tea made from the root of fresh organic ginger (boil the root of ginger in water) and drink it too. @margos41 1w
  •   healthy_cravings @jennfowl - This is what I found on LiveStrong.com.. "There are many common misconceptions regarding the enzymes in your food -- whether they're useful to you and what affects them. In very simple terms, freezing doesn't kill enzymes in food for two reasons. First, they're not alive, so they can't be killed. Second, freezing doesn't permanently affect enzyme structure. What can kill and denature them is heat (cooking, exposure to high heat, etc.)" Hope that helps♡♡♡ 1w
