hdnjr I usually have a healthy breakfast, a light lunch, and then freestyle for dinner. I wasn't in the mood for a loud crowded place so I walked around downtown until I came upon 'tesori chicago.' A block away from the Art Institute with a low key vibe and dim lighting, I gave it a shot. With an Italian inspired menu there were a lot of ways to go, but I decided on the 'linguini, duck bolognese, confit, parmesan.' Best pasta and/or duck dish I've ever had (and I just had lobster mac & cheese last night). If you're ever in Chicago, pay them a visit. Cheers.

hdnjr A typical day for me begins with reading the news. I like to know what's going on in the world. Reading also gives me ideas for paintings, my comic strip, etc. If anything moves me, it's time to sketch it out. But, ideas come regardless. Most of them stay in my book never to be seen again. The sketch you see here is for a mural. 3d

hdnjr The Art Institute of Chicago; one of the greatest museums in the world and the second largest in the country. It's one of my favorite places. What's this? A new exhibit on Magritte? Looks like I'll squeeze that in this week 3d

hdnjr On the road again. I just love airports, and airplanes, and flying, and... Of course my first stop will be Chicago for a few days. Better to do it now and avoid that wicked winter.
Miami International Airport has a great collection of historic photographs. Here is a photo of Muhammad Ali training for his championship fight against Sonny Liston at the famous 5th Street Gym in South Beach. He stayed in the historic Overtown neighborhood and would regularly jog over the bridge that connects Miami to Miami Beach. Good morning

hdnjr I don't know why I keep happening on these scenes; but, I do walk a lot. This guy just collapsed in the street. Thankfully it was in front of a lot of people and everyone rushed to his aid. By the time I left the ambulance was on it's way. 1w

hdnjr the day i resembled a suspect
It was summer and I was 13 years old. I was walking to my best friend’s house 3 blocks away; a path I’d walked countless times. I was in the middle of the street when a police car screeched to a halt and asked me to stop. Two cops got out and asked me to come forward. They told me to put my hands on the trunk of the car and spread my legs. They proceeded to frisk me. Touching and groping my body in ways that I felt were wrong. They asked for my ID. I was young, but I had my school ID on me. They said that I resembled a murder suspect and that’s why they had to stop me. They decided I was not the murderer and let me go. It took me years to process this event. What is interesting is I read stories about this type of thing happening to boys and men before I was born. I’d now seen and experienced the same thing. And, all these years later, the same story continues. The painting above I created in 2012, and yet it seems to always be current.

hdnjr Walking this morning, six of us locals were going on about our business when we came upon this young lady on the pier in a fetal position. It’s not uncommon for people to party too hard and pass out around here, but they’re not usually alone. This was precarious because if she’d rolled over she would have surely fell into the water. Barefoot and with no purse or ID visible, two of us strangers tried to wake her. She was breathing, but unresponsive. This seemed to be more than the typical hangover. We called 911 and waited with her until the paramedics arrived and she was in good hands. 1mon

hdnjr the backstabbers
When I was a child, my family used warn me about strangers. But, as I got older I learned that sometimes it's the people closest to you that you have to watch out for. I call them the backstabbers.
