People always ask me how/why I create art and it's always difficult to explain. I don't know how to explain passion. I don't know how to explain inspiration. But, there is one aspect of creating that I do think will give you a peak inside this world. A painting is a problem; a problem that an artist creates. So, from beginning to the end we spend our time reconciling the compositions' pictorial problems until we are satisfied. Take the painting above. I created this last year and it is one of my favorite paintings, however, there were certain areas that unsettled me and for the past year I would just look at it whenever I was home or look at the digital version when traveling. I went over my issues with the piece in my head (where most of the creative process takes place) and then when I'd figured out what changes I needed to make to complete the piece I spent the past two days doing just that. I am now satisfied. To see what it looked like before, just scroll way way down for the previous version and see the changes for yourself.
