grlandherdog Walking along the pier after work. So nice to have daylight at 6pm, it's been months! #burlon #burlingtonont #burlingtonpier #burlingtonontario 3d
  •   zenerogluten Great shot! 3d
  •   shar_bozz That will mean it's this light at 7PM next week after we change the clocks. Yay for later daylight! 3d
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz yes!!! Just a bit darker in the morning for a few weeks... 3d

grlandherdog Happy March everyone! Maybe the ice will thaw this month. There's a pillar, large chains, and a binocular viewing spot underneath us! #sundaywalks #burlingtonont #burlingtonpier #frozensolid 4d
  •   shar_bozz Happy March to you too! At least the days are finally getting longer! 4d
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz yes! A little more light when we get home from work! I do hate waking up in the dark though, except it's dark when I wake up year round lol. 4d
  •   shar_bozz I'm so happy that I can finally drive all the way home from work in the light. What time do you get up in the morning? 4d
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz I'm usually up 5:00am - 6am, and on a train by 7:20 to get to work by 8:30. Depending on whether I walk Shakes in the morning. Right now, It's bright just before I get on the train. Thankfully I don't have to drive too often - it can take 1.5 to 2 hours to get 65km (35miles ish?) to work with the traffic. 4d
  •   shar_bozz You have a nasty commute! Luckily I can work from home a couple of days a week. Otherwise I'm up at 5:45 and out the door by 6:45 to get to work by 8, but I drive 43 miles so a much faster commute . 4d
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz when I lived in Toronto it still took me 45 minutes to take the subway downtown to work, and I didn't live that far!! So now it's a little more time but the distance is much bigger. I used to work from home a few days a week, even just 1 day, but I have a new boss since Oct, and she's totally against working from home. Which really really sucks. 4d
  •   shar_bozz That does suck! My boss doesn't love WAH, but she finally gave in two years ago after other departments started it. I hope your boss comes around! 4d
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz hope so. After 5 years of having WAH, and moving 65km away in part because I had that flexibility, it really is lousy. 4d

grlandherdog Last week in Hawaii: Teriyaki, bacon, chili, cheese, turkey, less sodium, jalapeno, chorizo, black pepper, lite...SPAM. #hawaii #wallofspam. Even though I know it's very popular in Hawaii, I was still gobsmacked and a bit grossed out... Cheese?! #spam 1w
  •   gksagenda Wow!! I totally thought that was an urban myth! 1w
  •   shar_bozz Then I shouldn't tell you that my mother (who hated to cook) would make us Spam and tator tots when my dad was traveling. 1w
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz no judgement here. Hawaiians have done some very creative things with SPAM that although I wouldn't eat it often, were intriguing, and not totally gross. 1w
  •   shar_bozz I have to say I'm amazed by the variety of choices! We only had the original version. 1w
  •   shinycrystal Is it bad to say that I love spam... 1w
  •   grlandherdog @shinycrystal you do?!!! 1w
  •   judimaine UGH! My Mom made us eat this every week!!!! 1w
  •   shar_bozz Haha, I had no idea that it was such a delicacy! 1w

grlandherdog There's a lot of insistent puppy snuggles going on these days. I can feel his rumbles of contentment on my shoulder. He really doesn't care how beautiful Hawaii was, only that we missed each other. 1w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: As we were acclimatizing at about 7,000ft on Mauna Kea, we saw the remains of a old ranching and cattle station. Paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboys) have a long history on the Big Island dating back to the 1800's. It is still a vibrant and thriving community with beautiful ranch lands high up in the hills and overlooking the ocean. #bigisland #paniolo #hawaii oh and local Hawaiian beef is delicious! 1w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: Offerings to the goddess of Mauna Kea, Poli'ahu. #maunakea #bigisland #hawaii 1w
  •   juliezryan Thank you so much for the postcard that arrived today, Tasha! If I hold it tight, I can feel just a touch of Hawaiian essence!! 1w
  •   craftsylisa How are u at pronouncing those Polynesian names? 1w
  •   grlandherdog @juliezryan yay! I'm glad you got it- that was pretty fast! 1w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: Last Monday I was looking at a very different landscape. Lava rock and tenacious ferns as far as the eye could see. 2w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: the same Kilauea caldera at night. Hard to capture but you can make out the ridges at the top of the crater. The lava in the pit gives the smoke a red glow. The black lumps in the bottom third of the pic are trees #kilauea #volcano #bigisland #hawaii #longexposure 2w
  •   mekiarapo This is so necessary as it is supposed to feel like -40 in TO tonight. 2w
  •   grlandherdog @mekiarapo being home is a shock to the system in so many ways. Happiest to see our little buddy though. 2w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: the Kilauea caldera hot and smokey in the day time. We could hear grinding and crashing from deep down below the surface where earth and lava churn. This is as close as you are allowed to get - a structured overlook, fencing and park rangers keep people from going further. #kilauea #volcano #bigisland #hawaii #hawaiinationalvolcanopark 2w

grlandherdog This was just a few moments before the previous shot. Fluffy clouds and in the distance, the summit of Haleakala, Maui, which we were lucky to visit on our honeymoon. Also - snow! Sometimes the summit of Mauna Kea is snow capped! #maunakea #bigisland #haleakala #maui #hawaii 2w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts continued: sunset at 13,796ft (4,205m) on the top of Mauna Kea. At this altitude we were dressed in parkas as it was a balmy -15C/5F. The layers below the sun are clouds, obscuring the land and light pollution. Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano and one of the best spots in the world for astronomical observation, with 11 countries funding observatories. A few more posts of these to come. #maunakea #bigisland #hawaii 2w

grlandherdog Thinking warm thoughts...thinking warm thoughts. It's -36C (-32.8F) today and I think I felt my contact lenses freeze a little when I stepped outside. Let's get through this cold by day dreaming of Hawaii...I'm back at Hapuna beach wearing this lilikoi fruit and flowers mandala tshirt by Hawaiian artist @akuacreative we discovered at a farmers market. Check out his hand printed designs! 2w
  •   shar_bozz That must be such a shock to go from so warm to ridiculously cold! I was going to complain that it was only 1 F here, but you're so much colder. 2w
  •   grlandherdog @shar_bozz it's awfully cold! It's supposed to struggle to get to a warmer -14C tomorrow but then plummet again to bitter cold for Sunday. 2w

grlandherdog Back home, very jet lagged but happy to be with this little guy! He's been ringing his bell all morning to get us outside in the backyard with him. More trip pics to come. 2w

grlandherdog The most delicious ( roll your eyes back in your head good) lunch at Sushi Rock in the tiny town of Hawi. Bottom: seared mahi mahi with shiitake mushroom and macadamia nuts. Top: inari pocket with rice, spicy ahi tuna, masago, topped with papaya; inari pocket with rice, unagi and seaweed salad. So good, we ate there twice! I will be dreaming of this for a long time. #hawi #bigisland #hawaii #sushi #sushirockhawi 2w
