grlandherdog Had a delicious Malaysian hawker-style feast at @soostoronto last night in good company with @foodiechow. Hawker food is the kind of food you'd find at street markets and stall vendors in Asia. I had some dishes I haven't had this good since I lived in Indonesia - a long time ago! For this event, it was $38 per person, we got 10+ dishes including: keropok - handmade shrimp chips, satay ayam - chicken satay with peanut sauce, kari puff with beef curry, rojak - a spicy veggie and fruit salad, beef rendang, assam udang - tamarind prawns, sambal ikan bilis - tossed spicy anchovies with peanuts, kapitan ayam - lemongrass chicken, kari ikan - curry fish with okra, kang kung - water spinach with sambal belacan (shrimp paste), mee goreng - fried noodles, coconut rice, roti bread. Dessert: cassava cake and pandan leaf crepe filled with coconut and palm sugar. Yum yum! Who's in for next time? #soostoronto #malaysianhawker #toronto #goodeats #torontofoodies #torontoeats #foodporn #tofood #ossington 12h

grlandherdog Pan-grilled calamari with preserved lemon, olive-oil, parsley, garlic, shallots, salt and pepper, on a bed of steamed Swiss chard, and a blob of rice. When we lived in Toronto, we'd visit @hookedinc often, they specialize in sustainable, small catch fish and seafood. Now, I order in by phone and request for the fish to be vacuum sealed. It keeps nicely in the freezer and lasts me several weeks. Pickerel, perch, trout, sablefish, salmon, mmmmm. #hookedinc #leslieville also in #kensingtonmarket 5d

grlandherdog Not as suitable for a #craftycommute as hand stitching, but more acceptable to fellow passengers than stabbing small cute critters in the face as when needle felting #alabamalong #reverseapplique #handmadedresses 1w

grlandherdog The Serene Empress Wu. I planted this beauty when we moved in 3 years ago and she's getting bigger and more beautiful each year, with a place of honour by our front door. These Hostas can grow up to 4.5' and its leaves 18" or more. #hosta #empresswu #gardenclub #shadegarden 2w

grlandherdog Had some "how does Shakes eat" questions lately. Here's s one of his favorites - meaty raw elk neck bone. He knows to stay on the towel while he eats his bones and after he's done we wash his feet, face and towel (and we took the collar off). Good eats, teeth cleaning, plus mental and physical stimulation. We take it away once the meat and softer bone and cartilage is gone to avoid to much bone, a bigger dog could polish this whole thing off. His next meal or two will not have any bone in it. We get it all @back2thebone #rawfeddog #happyhealthydog 2w
  •   grlandherdog @jamesbecke thought of you and the game dinner after I posted this. 2w
  •   dolalee Fergus loved his summer ham hocks, so much better for them than rawhide! 2w

grlandherdog I present the sole survivor of this week's tulip massacre, carried out under cover of night by squirrels. I give this one a few more nights before it too succumbs to their voracious ways. #gardenclub 2w

  •   mmiblogs You have to teach me this technique! 2w
  •   grlandherdog @mmiblogs you can hand sew and quilt, so you already know how! I had to undo some sections and move the knots from the front to the back (design choice), so this is just retying them! 2w
