footlesspants I usually don't write long descriptions but I have to say that this was a work of art that really compelled a myriad of emotions out of me. A few of them being uncomfortable, enraged, saddened. A bold reminder of the African diaspora and of those who were unpaid and severely overworked in the sugar cane fields and factories that have long since been forgotten. Although the work of art in itself is powerful, my emotional reaction was mostly due to some people in the audience that I was surrounded by. Some people were happily taking pictures in front of the 'Mammy Sphinx' and attempting to squeeze her nipples, lick her, asking why her nose and lips were so large, and attempting other forms of degrading acts on the front and back of her. The longer I watched these things happen the more I became uncomfortable and upset to the point of tears. If you're asking why, it would be because of the silent yet accepted daily sexual degradation of women of color, but more specifically black women. It reminded me of the rape, torture, and dehumanizing of slaves for centuries. It reminded me of the ignorance my friends, family, and I face on a daily basis. That still in today's society I must be submissive and as pure as possible yet still am not considered to be good enough, only as a sexual being and nothing more. I feel that part of Kara's art is to show the audience being a part of the work as well. #karawalkerdomino #karawalker #dominosugar #domino #dominosugarfactory #raw 4mon

  •   chigiartis We have to let them know we are beautiful and not mere objects to put on display like a science project...Our black is beautiful maybe one day everyone else will get it...the piece is most definitely moving took me through so many emotions and past interactions I have gone thru as a kid...had to claim my beauty back cause they tried to steal it from me...we are beautiful... Thanks 4mon
