fionarhw Anyone know what these are about? Bus arrived before I could investigate. 3w
  •   rajbala Looks like Near Field Communication (NFC) is being used to allow you to interact with a map by tapping your phone. Won't work with iPhones as Apple has restricted iPhone 6/6+ NFC chips to only be used with ApplePay. 3w
  •   fionarhw @rajbala Thanks Raj. I'd never come across NFC before today. I'm on a 5S, will see what happens when I'm back at the stop next week :) 3w
  •   rajbala The iPhone 6/6+ models were the first iPhones to have NFC. So your 5S doesn't have the chip. The other barcode-like thing is a QR code. You could use a QR code reader to scan it and presumably have a similar experience, but I've never used one of those before. 3w
  •   rajbala On a whim I decided to scan that QR code in your image using a reader pointed at my laptop and it worked --- sort of. It seems to be designed to allow you to interact with an advertisement displayed by Clear Channel Ireland rather than a map. (!!!) 3w
  •   fionarhw Familiar with QR codes - it was the NFC bit that was all new. Typical that it's an ad - would hardly be anything useful like a map at an Irish bus-stop #capitalism4lyfe 3w
