fasteddieflanagan I prefer the young, summer sun that stays out late and parties. The old, cold, early to bed sun can get bent. #latergram 5d

fasteddieflanagan Lawrence J. "Bud" Burkard, my grandfather and World War II veteran, never graduated high school. There were more important things going on in the world at the time. Like his father before him, he went to Europe in a World War against the country where his ancestors came to America from. My grandfather was one of the important people in my life-I was so very fortunate he lived into his 80's and that he came home from Europe. He never once wore a "veteran" hat, never put a bumper sticker on his car, or self promoted his time spent. "It was my job," he would say to me as a child...I never could quite understand how a man so courageous wouldn't want the attention he deserved. The men who served in Europe, Asia, and Africa during World War II are becoming extinct-time has caught up to them and now stories and memories are the only thing we have left. #veteransday 2w
