excitarej For some reason I really miss Guatemala lately, and I just hopped on instagram and saw a bunch of photos from Guatemala that made me feel like I was back there again. @monodelespacio always has a way of capturing Guatemala in a way that makes me feel connected even when I'm far away. Gracias vos por siempre inspirarme con tus fotos. This shot is what I wish I was eating for dinner tonight along with some frijolitos. 5d

excitarej I sat and watched this little baby woodpecker get fed a buffet of insects by his mom and dad, who are amazingly good hunters. Every couple of minutes the mom and dad would alternate flying over to their baby's calls and feed him a beak full of grubs, termites, flies, ants, and who knows what else. 7d

excitarej They say you can't live in Utah and not take a dip in The Great Salt Lake. Checking that one off the list after spending the day like a safari through the Plains in the 1800s taking photos of Buffalo and Antelope. 2w
  •   jasondubbs Any bird pics? 2w
  •   excitarej @jasondubbs it was a bird nerd paradise. 2w
  •   mindymordue I lived in Utah for 6 years and never even went to the Great Salt Lake. Only saw it as we flew over it. Silly me! 2w
  •   wright_mama Can I look forward to seeing photos of buffalo and antelope? 2w
  •   excitarej @mindymordue this was my first time actually swimming in it, but now I know why people rave about it. You float so easily it's incredible! 2w
  •   excitarej @wright_mama Yeah as soon as I have some time to upload the photos from my camera I'll post some 2w

excitarej "Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day.
So, when life gets dark and dreary,
Don't forget to pray." - Mary A. Kidder (1876). Caught this little Uinta Chipmunk up in the high Uintas near Mirror Lake blessing his meal of little seeds.

excitarej The "bird nerd" in me (as my wife calls it) is really excited. Ordered a new lens as a birthday gift to myself for an upcoming trip to Yellowstone. My current greatest telephoto capability is 300mm and this new lens will double that to 600mm. First time buying a non canon brand lens, hopefully this sigma super telephoto holds up to the reviews praise. This shot is at 300mm on my current telephoto lens of a Puerto Rican Woodpecker (Melanerpes portoricensis), taken at Jessie and Johnnie's wedding in May in Puerto Rico. Can't wait to play with my new lens when it gets here this weekend 2w

excitarej Little baby lizard in Puerto Rico. The plant that he is on was about as big around as my pinky just for some reference. There were two little ones his size hopping around where I found him but I think they were two different species, still haven't been able to identify him. If you have any ideas please let me know #herp #puertorico #lizard #herpetology 1mon

excitarej I love to travel for many reasons. It all started when I lived in Guatemala serving as a missionary. The world became a bigger place full of new amazing things when I opened myself up to the truth that I am so little and insignificant yet important to my creator just as all life on this earth is to him. I started with a point and shoot camera and started learning how to use it as a tool to capture moments that remind me just how amazing life is. So many beautiful places and people began to be a school of life to me as I continued traveling after finishing my time as a missionary. The sights, smells, foods, textures, and even emotions became more challenging and more fun to try to capture with my camera. I continue to learn as I go, soaking up the moments as I learn to manipulate the camera so it also can soak up the light of those moments to share with others. This rant and photo are dedicated to this amazing little girl in a highland market in Guatemala, where it all began for me. I don't know her name but her intense gaze seemed to burn into my soul as I watched her confidently watch me with curiosity, my large camera and pale complexion a strange sight to her no doubt. People like her are one reason I love to travel. So much can be learned by observing the simple beautiful moments around us. @chrisburkard I would love to join you for my first trip to Switzerland to learn more from the people and places there, as well as some training from you, my favorite photographer. #FLYswissBURKARD @flyswiss 2mon
