everyday_tactical Today's EDC Blade: The HK 14715 AXIS made by Benchmade. Ok, so they didn't name it very well. And no, it's not particularly flashy. But every now and again a manufacturer makes a blade that has all the high quality features we look for in an EDC with none of the glitz to make it too pricey. We call those winners, and the 14715 AXIS is just exactly that, a winner in every sense of the word. The black coated blade is a 3.69" clip point made of thick stock D2 tool steel. It has a high flat grind and long swedge on the spine to help reduce weight. The blade came razor sharp and because D2 is typically hardened into the 60's HRC, it'll stay that way for quite awhile. The Pivot is classic Benchmade smooth thanks to phosphor bronze bushings, and lockup is rock solid thanks to the AXIS lock. The handle feels great in the hand and is made of skeletonized steel liners covered in well textured G10 scales. It is a completely open post design for easy care with every surface blacked out for a stealth carry. The pocket clip is HK branded and set up for right or left tip up carry. all in all the 14715 AXIS weighs in just under 5oz, so what you get is a larger, defensively capable EDC that is also easy to carry. Best of all these can be had for just around $100. It's not shiny or coated in fancy carbon fiber, but it is extremely high value. So if you're looking for an EDC that serve you for years to come, the HK 14715 AXIS should definitely be on your list. 1w

  •   paholzer_ That blood groove ruins it tbh 2w
  •   everyday_tactical It's called a fuller. And exactly how do you propose to criticise things about which you clearly don't know? 2w
  •   atran66 Quick question: what is the fuller for? Is it just aesthetics or is there a use? Keep up the awesome posts! 2w
  •   everyday_tactical It really has 3 purposes. The first is a strength role. Adding a fuller to a blade, because of the geometry involved, tends to make a blade stronger from side to side. The second is weight reduction. When you have a blade as thick as this, a fuller helps reduce how heavy it is a great deal without sacrificing strength. The 3rd is they just plain look cool! @atran66 2w
  •   topshot_nate I love mine. One of my favorite knives! 2w
  •   kedotkom Mine is soo smooth 2w
  •   haakleberryfinn The one knife I will never let go 2w
  •   xcontributor 3v is an insanely tough steel, I chopped through a 2"x4" with my Tuff, and it was still hair-popping sharp afterwards 2w

everyday_tactical Today’s EDC Blade: The Yojimbo 2 from Spyderco. In the realm of EDC blades, the Yojimbo doesn’t really fit the norm. Where Drop points generally reign as standard, the Yojimbo breaks through that mold and does so in nearly every area & without ever breaking the bank. The 3.11” Wharncliffe blade is a stout 4mm thick, made of premium S30V steel. She sports a high hollow grind from the ricasso to the tip, making a solid pattern for EDC or Defensive cutting without compromising strength. The thin tip slides deeply into thrust cuts and the long, even cutting edge provides maximum surface area contact for slash cuts, all of which is supported by the thick spine. The spine also doubles as a thumb rest, making a thumb forward grip ideal with this knife. It came shaving sharp and has not needed sharpened in the weeks I’ve carried her. Deployment is rocket fast and smooth via the thumb hole thanks to phosphor bronze bushings in the pivot. Lockup is rock solid via Spyderco’s awesome Compression lock on the back of the handle, keeping your fingers out of the way of the super keen edge. The handle is comprised of steel liners wrapped in grippy G10 scales that have been smartly shaped to fit nearly any hand, even my big mitts. All in all this pocket beast weighs in at around 4oz, meaning she carries lightly but still makes her presence known. Overall, the Yojimbo performed very well in every area of EDC except food prep. Having no belly, she really only chops food well, while the forward tip drags when slicing. However, in the area of boxes and packages & etc., the Yojimbo outpaces most others. Not to mention that the Wharncliffe shape means she is ideal as a folding defensive blade in close quarters. It really becomes an extension of the hand. And the 4 way pocket clip means you can carry it any way you like. So if you’re in the market for a nonstandard, less than normal EDC that is high quality through and through, you can find the Yojimbo 2 for around $110 and she’s worth a second a look. Also this test model is now for sale for $100. Email me at edtomaha@gmail.com if you’re interested. Happy @KnifeThursday EDTer’s! 4w
