esimpsonphoto "When you're hitting on the truth and striking a chord, everybody wants to be down. I used to bump Nirvana records, right? That dude grew up totally different from me, but he struck a chord." - Ice Cube on suburban kids crossing over to gangsta rap in the new Rolling Stone magazine. 🏼🏼 #wordsinprint #inkonpaper 1w

  •   seancliver more like rolling stone pamphlet... shit's damn near a 'zine from what it used to be. 1w
  •   esimpsonphoto @seancliver Agreed. At a whopping 72 pages I'm happy it still exists. In my magazine days the rule was anything that couldn't sustain a 100 page count with at least a 55/45 ad to edit ratio was killed. 1w

  •   esimpsonphoto @ricketts77 My great grandfather had a street named after him in Oakland but I didn't even have to visit Wyoming to get one so I think I've upped the family game. Haha!! 1w

esimpsonphoto I have a hard enough time sitting still when healthy that being injured feels like prison to me. No disrespect to those who've been, I couldn't handle it. This is Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia and is considered to be the worlds first true penitentiary. I couldn't imagine spending a single day locked up here. #wearesymmetry 2w

esimpsonphoto Would you believe everything in this photo from the background to cars was composited into a photo of the concrete blocks? Back in 2007 I was doing way too much post processing/photo making in #photoshop. Now people brag about their post. I'm a little ashamed. Background concrete and cars shot in the desert (where there's no grass) Each car was lit separately and placed in as well as the grass, trees and clouds. @bmwusa #mcoupe @porsche #cayman @lotus_motors #exiges 2w

esimpsonphoto Watching a documentary on rock photographer #jinidellaccio and wishing I would have kept shooting live music. This was my second to last live shoot and it must have been 10 years ago. The Weirdos at the Doll Hut in Anaheim 2005ish. Last live band I shot was a Scorpions reunion tour. #itwasapaidgig #nowonderistopped #mymemorymightbeoff @the_worldfamous_dollhut #theweirdos 2w

esimpsonphoto For $140 I received 2 ct scans, 4 x-Rays 21 hours of emergency care and a meal. Had I needed a surgery the price would have been the same. Despite all the fear mongering by the insurance industry and the hype of Obama Care we already have a public health care system that trains our future doctors and nurses as well as treats the uninsured and typically poor. It's called county hospital and every county has at least one. The employees are typically young and eager to learn and try the latest procedures. I could go on a 2,000 word rant about this, instead I'll let you think about it and do a little research. #howmuchisyourinsurance #whatsyourdeductable #puttingmytaxdollarstouse #doyourresearh #ivepaidmorethan140fordinner #fucktheinsuranceindustry 2w
  •   kelsykate @esimpsonphoto Thank you for the offer, but I actually am one of the few people that understands how all this works- one of my degrees is in political theory and enough of a top expert in health care for over a decade to make the 30-under-30 nominations a few years ago. I have spent time at hospitals of all sizes, demographics, and payment structures around the country in an attempt to fix the issues with care costs, community needs, and reimbursements, as well as be a patient and physician/nurse advocate above all else. I left my career in healthcare because I felt that the money being paid to me was better served going to nurses and patient care, especially with such a broken industry. My post to you was more of a suggestion to rave about the care you received vs rant about costs w/ info that wasn't accurate. 2w
  •   esimpsonphoto Thought I'd rephrase my response to you because this post was meant for people like you who believe the hype to actually stop and think. Think about the military, roads, public transportation, public housing, schools etc. not everyone uses them but we all pay for them with what? Taxes. Of course my individual taxes could never pay for one of those entities, however collectively they exist for everyone. Call it what you want but it's the model of socialism. @kelsykate 2w
  •   esimpsonphoto @kelsykate And unfortunately you still don't understand the public sector very well. 2w
  •   suzanne_justice Amen @esimpsonphoto I go to the county doctor and get better care, wish our country was more progressive in the areas of health and tuition !! After being in holland for a good chunk of time, I really got to see how much more efficient things are over there, because of these things !!! 2w
  •   kelsykate @esimpsonphoto I truly wasn't trying to start a debate. I commented only to inform you that the care you received costs more than $140 - and your (or my, or our) tax dollars pays a paltry amount of that balance - and to remind you to thank the people that provided you with the excellent care. My interest in explaining a very complicated issue and having a meaningful discussion goes to zero when the insults begin. Again, glad you're better and glad you have quality healthcare in your community - that's what's most important 2w
  •   esimpsonphoto @kelsykate The problem is you're assuming I don't understand the actual costs of things, the insurance industry, government subsidization or how a hospital in the public sector vs private works. I do, and very well. Does a bus only cost 50¢ to operate? A subway train $2.50? A school lunch $3.00? No but subsidization, taxes and collected interest cover the costs. Most people know those, subsidized tax payer helped, costs but they don't know the cost of serious emergency health care is the same, a fraction of the actual cost because we have a privately owned insurance industry that created fear and paranoia. Your background has brought nothing to this discussion so far. You didn't ask how the care was or read into my praise when I said, "employees are typically young and eager..." Instead you told me what to do. So you threw insults first. You would be happy to hear I was thanked by the head nurse on staff for being a model patient and submitted saliva to volunteer research for future trauma victims (I was the only one in all the beds who did). I made a choice 13 years ago to stop paying insurance and go this route for myself and my family/children after long discussions, years of research and over $100,000 wasted in insurance premiums. That money spent could have paid for their college tuition or a home but I was like most middle to upper class US citizens accepting the hype and afraid to go this route. Hell, the first time I walked into a county hospital I walked straight back out doubting they could do anything more than hurt me worse. I can tell you story after story of friends who've gone to top hospitals and got no results, ended up at county and had a young specialist in training fix their problem after wasting thousands elsewhere. The point of this post was to inform and maybe make some question why it's there and they don't know about it or get people talking. It's their tax dollars being amassed to pay for these services they aren't using. The only thing you've done is help my argument. Thanks!!! Please keep proving my points. When you assume you've made an ASS out of U and ME - ASSUME 2w
  •   kelsykate Being mean and insulting towards me isn't going to solve any of your frustrations. Have a nice day. 2w
  •   esimpsonphoto @kelsykate Again, assumptions. I was never frustrated. If you took me explaining the basic workings of the public sector as anything other than a basic explanation to someone who clearly doesn't understand it well enough to make a difference when formally employed by it you might want to do some self reflection. Not once today did I get frustrated. :) 2w

esimpsonphoto Full face helmets (that are certified by DOT or SNELL), proper riding gear and knowing how to fall after 26 years of skateboarding has saved my life twice when I was hit on my motorcycle by drivers who didn't look before turning. Because of these things I walked away with a few broken ribs, scrapes and a damaged moto, but I WALKED away. Too many people die from not wearing proper riding gear. If you're riding a motorcycle please wear your gear or get some if you don't have it yet. As cool as you think you look without it my face wouldn't look too cool permanently in the asphalt of Santa Monica BLVD. Thanks to all of you who have sent kind wishes and especially my girl @cordirey who's taken the best care of me. I'll be riding again as soon as I'm healed and I fix my bike. 3w
