erinneiner Keeping an art journal is both fun and nagging at the same time. Sometimes with commitment, with it comes the heavy weight of duty, often killing the spark of creativity. Yet the structure and purpose of the place to paint pushes with forward momentum the call to continue on. John and I have been talking about that pull of tension a lot lately, whether it's in our finances, our parenting choices, or our hobbies. Growth is a process and should be a welcome friend. And taking up painting as an adult is also becoming a very trustworthy reminder to never stop trying. .

  •   erinneiner @rbaburina That's why I'm behind the camera phone and not on the carousel. Also, we found shoes for Drew that both parties are happy with. 6d

erinneiner Reentry is often rocky. So today we start a memory book about our visit to the aquarium, reminisce over the big ships we walked upon, receive the postcards we sent to ourselves, line up our collected smashed pennies, eat our Chinese leftovers for lunch, light a candle on this blustery day, drink extra coffee (that's me), and unravel back into normalcy. Well...whatever normal actually means. (I have no idea) 2w

erinneiner We stole away yesterday, just for the weekend. Sometimes you just need to get away and take a breather. Get large doses of fresh air. Lay aside day in and day out responsibilities for a bit. Go to the sea horizon and let your gaze wander far off into the distance. Get some fresh perspective. And while you're there, pick up an extra dose of grace to bring home with you. #mysticct 2w

erinneiner Yesterday, per my request, we set out an hour due north to an open house at a sheep farm in VT. It was a glorious day after a week of rain and we trudged around and sat in the field where the lambs surrounded us with joyful cantor. We saw the sheep mamas caring over their lambs. The lambs were curious and playful, but never too far from their mama. It was such a sweet picture on this mothers day. #shaftsburyvt #awingandaprayerfarm #mothersday2016 3w
  •   zbeebennett My dad was a shepherd when I was a young girl. I have always loved sheep- especially the lambs and also thinking about God as my shepherd! Sounds like a great day! You are a beautiful mother! 3w
  •   erinneiner @zbeebennett No way! That is really neat! It was such a delightful time to see this farm run...and yes, so many biblical correlations! 2w

erinneiner With the day in and day out rain, we decided to pull out the water colors for school today. Underwater was the theme, potato carving was the tool at hand, and a full morning of uninterrupted artistic endeavor. Leo Lionni's "Swimmy" was our inspiration, and reminded us that helping each other often looks like coming up with a solution that helps that person away from a fear or with a problem. And it always means extending a helping hand whenever possible. #picturebooksarenotjustforkids #leolionni 3w
  •   miz.amz I just love this little jelly! Too bad he can't be saved to use again 3w
  •   rbaburina That looks like fun! And, ditto @mizamz , he's super cute. Hand lettering happening here. A potato would have been less expensive though may not have achieved the desired affect. 🖋 3w
  •   grammajo Love. This. What a creative, teaching tool @erinneiner! 3w

erinneiner This month, I'm following the daily organizational challenge over at @inkwellpress. It's your personal stuff and it's just enough to get done each day in around 30 min to an hour. But today, I got a little distracted with sentimentality as it was jewelry day, and I came across these items. // a note from my dad I received in high school // my wedding jewelry // the Eddie Bauer watch I wore in college // a penny with a heart cut out of it // Turkish money from our trip in 2013 // 3w

erinneiner Charles Baldwin and Sons, est. 1888. | West Stockbridge, MA

When I was in high school, I was a pretty big Martha Stewart fan (this was, of course, pre-Pinterest age). I visually devoured the magazines, poured over the recipes (wondering if I could actually pull them off), and even recorded her show on our VHS player. I distinctly remember an article on her favorite vanilla extract, shown in perfect little brown bottles. This little company in small town Massachusetts, where they have been making vanilla extract since the late 1880's, was apparently where it was at (according to Martha). The magic ingredient to baking? I naively wondered. Some years later, with good and bad Martha-recipe experiences under my belt, I certainly have acquired a more realistic approach to baking but still enjoy the occasional Martha challenge. But what I really love is the fact that the hills surrounding me in this little state is filled with wonderful little stops like this one. The same company I had read about all those years ago. Tried and true. Still going strong after all these years. #baldwinvanillaextract #weststockbridge #berkshires #marthastewart

erinneiner Happy Birthday to my real-life friend! We met by what may have seemed like happenstance, me showing up with my then two little boys for storytime. She was the one reading the (barefoot) books to the rowdy group but smiled on. Then a shy introduction turned into a walk to the park over peanut butter jelly sandwiches, where our hearts knit and a friendship began over talk of our faith. I have enjoyed our friendship over every last cup of coffee! And we both know that day was Divinely initiated! Hope you are having a very blessed birthday, R! @rbaburina 1mon
