emilysuenetz Here is the back of our kitchen island (aka: a 1956 May-O-Matic drafting table). We gave the whole thing a good cleaning, put 'er on casters for easily moving it out of the way for spontaneous dance parties (or cleaning), and refinished the top in a stain that compliments the hardwood floors. We are scheming up a way to close up the back to mimic the planking on the wall, and trying to decide if we want to paint it or not. The grey is growing on us. There is a lower level counter space on the other side that we will replace with butcher block. I'm on the hunt for some stellar barstools. #craigslistdoesitagain #athomewiththenetzs 13h

emilysuenetz Kitchen update: and we have a plank wall thanks to @jeffreyne! I cropped out the huge pile of dishes and my black fridge (which I'm thankful for, but I've got a purty white one picked out!). Everything is fully functioning, and we are taking a break from the reno on the inside for a few weeks. I can finally put things in place and not feel like we will have to move it around or clean everything from construction dust. again. Things left to do: open shelving on either side of the sink, toe kick, pendant lights over sink and island, cabinet hardware, build pantry, and lots of other little things (it's never-ending, ya'll). I've never been so excited to clean! 2d

emilysuenetz I'm not sure what these are called, but I found lots of them blooming in my yard. They smell amazing. I'm over here dreaming up a cut-flower garden. And a moonlight garden. And a vegetable garden. And a butterfly garden. #outofcontrol #athomewiththenetzs 2d

emilysuenetz My weekend looked like landscaping, filling pots with flowers, ironing my drop cloth curtains, and painting. painting. painting. One of these days we will have to actually relax and have some fun on the weekends!! #almostdone #ineedavacation #athomewiththenetzs 4d

emilysuenetz Plank wall installation prep is happening. Got a killer mid century dresser set from a friend this week. We hung a mirror (at least one wall looks done). The island is on casters. I might have a faucet installed this week (running water is nbd, right? ). The renovation is winding down! #norestfortheweary #athomewiththenetzs 1w

emilysuenetz Sometimes it's the little things that make a place feel more like home. It's a rug on the floor that adds warmth. It's that certain family member's laugh. It's those mug rings on the coffee table because no one remembers to use the coasters. Fragrance is a powerful memory trigger for me. Planting magnolia bushes around the front entrance to our house seemed like the perfect way to greet all who enter. The fragrance of magnolia is a beautiful one and I am thankful to associate it with a place I love: home. #ihopeicankeepthemalive #homesignaturescent 2w

emilysuenetz This last week, some dear friends lost a long court battle for their adopted 18 month old boy that they have had since birth. The biological father decided that he wanted the baby after the birth and adoption and the judge ruled in his favor. I can't imagine the deep sadness and emotional turmoil that these friends are going through right now as they have lost the child they love as their own and the child who made them a mom and dad. Please help me lift this dear family up in prayer! #adoption 2w

  •   ericsjules I have a dear friend here who had something similar happen to a baby boy she had from 8 wks until he was almost 2. Heartbreaking, so hard to stand by helplessly. But prayer and God's power can do anything. 2w
  •   bdeiss Oh sad! 2w
  •   kelliejoy Oh my goodness that is terrible. 2w
  •   aliciavauters That is heartbreaking! There truly are no words to capture the emotions of waiting in the courtroom to hear a judge decide a baby's future. Praying for this family!!! 2w

emilysuenetz We are still running low on furniture in the new place. I found these babes for $7.50 each at a garage sale on my way home from picking up Chinese yesterday afternoon. I said "fine, I'll take them." Who wants to recover them for me? 4w

emilysuenetz We had a whirlwind few days driving across 6 states in 3 days and flying back home. Spent way too much time in the O'Hare airport due to a delayed flight, but it gave me time to finish this book written by @thenester. Over the last few months as we slowly put together this home of ours, I've been thinking a lot on the art of creating a home that is warm and welcoming - on hospitality and being a good friend and host. Why is it that we as women strive for perfection in our homes yet if we search deep down, we realize what we really crave is to hear that imperfection is ok? "Imperfections bear witness to the fact that we are normal, approachable, real people." - The Nesting Place

I'm an imperfect, normal girl with dimpled thighs, road-rage tendencies, and dog hair on my living room floor. Sometimes social media leads us to think that the person in our screen is perfect and has it all together, but when you walk through my front door - I want you to feel ...well, at home. ((Thank you @mary_upsiedaisymommy for lending this book to me!)) #athomewiththenetzs #miniblogpost

emilysuenetz Such a fun, jam-packed weekend! I gained a sister-in-law (((eeeek!))) and spent precious time with my in-laws and friends out east. This is the only picture we took the whole wedding and I'm kicking myself. @mersully your wedding was beautiful and perfect and I'm so happy to have another sister. (photo credz: @natenetz) 1mon
