elenadee Yesterday at Darn Yarn, I chatted with the sock knitting class for a bit and one woman was talking about how she had heard about knitting socks one inside the other. It sounded pretty intimidating, until another said she was pretty sure it was like double knitting. That made sense; I've double knit before. So, challenge accepted. I decided to do a test knit by making little bitty socks before spending a ton of time making a pair for myself using a method of which I was uncertain. It's going really well - these are from earlier in the process, but I just finished the gusset decreases. 2d

elenadee I wasn't getting the result I quite desired spinning @foxandfamily.angell's fox Anderson's fur on its own, so made a 50/50 blend with alpaca. Hopefully it spins a bit smoother as a blend. 2w

elenadee Antique coffin mirror acquired at an estate sale today. My sweet, profit-minded partner thinks he's going to sell it. He's cute. And wrong. 2w

elenadee Finally bought the #triloom I've been eyeing for months at @darnyarnneedlesandthread. Lisa had it started as a demo, so I'm continuing her work instead of ripping it out and starting my own. It's going well so far! 3w
  •   elenadee Let's note this is a mini-tri-loom, not full shawl size. The inside of the long edge is just over two feet long. 3w

elenadee I'm finally done #knitting my #knitswirl sweater. Started this insane project in November with a couple others in the #darnyarnharmony crew in the hopes to have it done by Christmas but obviously that didn't happen. Now I have to block and seam, which I'm not really looking forward to. 3w

elenadee Spinning Fox Fur, Step 2: Blending Board. A lot needed loosened first, as the fur is quite matted. Not a big deal, it happens, and thankfully it separates fairly easily and straightened out a good bit on the board. It did not, however, pull up very smoothly and the rolag is extremely uneven. Because much of the fox's undercoat is short, I will be doing my test spin on a support spindle. If the test goes well, I can spin the fox straight. If not, I will take it back to the blending board and add in some wool. 4w
  •   oopsiknitmypants So cool! 4w
  •   elenadee @oopsiknitmypants it reminds me of spinning cotton because the staple length is so short. So aside from constant breakage (like I get with cotton), it's going alright. Definitely bumpy, but I'll just process it a bit more on the board or carders for the next go. 4w
  •   knitta_4_life I would love to try fox! Looks beautiful. 4w
  •   elenadee @knitta_4_life it's a cool experience and I'm really thankful to have the opportunity to do it. But a warning if you get to: it's super smelly! Though after half a dozen or so washings it got better. 4w

elenadee Damien: Do you need a picture of your cats cuddling in the box?
Me: Yes. Are they being extra adorable?
Damien: Not really.
He LIED. My cats are being ULTRA ADORABLE.

elenadee Step one of attempting to spin fox fur into yarn and make little critters for @foxandfamily.angell - WASH!!! Not only was Anderson's fur dirty, as expected of an outdoor pet, but wow does this little bag really smell strongly of fox (which, for you fiber people, is not remotely like the smell of sheep). So, as with any dirty raw fleece, it needed washed before I could get any further. Currently drying, which will likely be an overnight event. Hopefully I will have some time over the weekend to work on carding. Stay tuned! 4w
  •   deadasdodos @elenadee yep foxes are STINKY balls of naughtyness hahahaha sorry to put you through that 4w
  •   elenadee @foxandfamily.angell it's cool! I just forgot how much they smell and almost got knocked over when I opened the bag 4w
  •   deadasdodos @elenadee hahahaha omg I'm sorry, people say fox smell is also like weed so watch out in public people may ask where you get the goods at hahaha 4w
  •   elenadee @foxandfamily.angell hahahaha I didn't get that impression and no one said anything when I went to the post office, so I think I'm ok. And Damien didn't say anything when he got home either 4w
  •   deadasdodos @elenadee hahaha you got lucky!!! 4w
