druzydesert Getting away from the places you love will definitely make you appreciate them more. Spent the last week on the east coast and as much as I love certain things like the blue ridge and blue crabs, it really makes me realize how incredibly special the #pnw is. Hard to beat the feeling you get in places like this. 3mon

druzydesert I actually have come to really like the Valley for a few reasons. I love how you can go from the coast, to wine country and oak prairies, to hidden waterfalls in the old growth all in one day. You can definitely get the feeling of being out there and in some pretty rural and wild areas if you just keep driving and hiking 🌲 4mon

druzydesert "Horses were given powers of divination. More than one legend speaks of the clairvoyance of horses and their ability to recognize those involved in magic. They are symbols that can express the magical side of humans." -Ted Andrews 6mon

druzydesert This is the Roe Stratton Place where buckaroos used to drive cattle back and forth from Winnemucca. A Chinese cook and camp boss lived here year round where the coldest temps in Oregon have been recorded. The Canyon Creek Complex fire came within miles of Bear Valley but as of today it looks like the winds have died down and they've lifted the evacuation alert for the town of Seneca. So thankful the valley, town, and amazing pieces of history like this are safe. Other places weren't so lucky unfortunately.. 6mon

druzydesert Throwback to last fall in the larch forest. I wonder if all the trees will change early this year? #cantwait #larch #tamarack #fall #tbt 6mon

druzydesert Parts of the forest in #centraloregon used to burn during the entire summer before we started suppressing fire. Researchers believe it looked a lot like plumes of smoke here and there with a mosaic of fires burning at relatively low intensity moving through the landscape. In the low-mid elevation areas, some patches would remain untouched for a while and become charred 5-15 years later. I wonder what this view would've looked like before 1900 when we started putting fires out? 🌲 #fireecology #forestecology #nerdinout #inbend 6mon

druzydesert The cool thing about spending two nights in one place is all the cross-country exploring you can do on day 2.. @pete_alport summitted a nearby peak while Ruca and I hiked to a tucked away lake on the other side of a high alpine ridge 7mon

druzydesert Hopefully all this rain will keep the desert green this year. Wildfires fueled by the invasive and highly flammable cheatgrass have become a huge problem in Central and Eastern Oregon. When they take hold they spread far and fast, torching sagebrush habitat which can take hundreds of years to grow back. Not a happy outcome for such sage-dependent species as the grouse, Pygmy rabbit, and sage sparrow. #desertecology #centraloregon #highdesert #sagebrushsteppe #endangered #greatbasin 7mon
