drewosborne On the #questforthepress ? I am a huge fan of handstands, and pressing from handstand has to be one of my favorites. I was determined to get the press the moment I saw one of my instructors effortlessly float up. I got stuck on the strap, tore my rotator cuff, and egotistically took the wrong path in achieving this. So much goes into a press, and it starts with your foundation. Begin in a solid halfway lift, engage your bandhas (suck the belly to spine), roll the shoulders down the back, breathe here, put weight into the fingertips, and think of energetically shifting forward (almost like you will do a somersault), trust yourself, and EXHALE to float up. Even if your feet come off the ground for a split second, this is progress. The hardest part is the lift off. Keep trying, and eventually the awareness and engagement of the breath/muscles will take you up. 1w

drewosborne Viparīta Śalabhāsana work. Lately I've been obsessed with this pose, as it literally came to me out of the blue. A few months back I tried to force my feet up and over my head and they didn't budge. Three days ago, I randomly gave it a shot and it happened. A nice reminder that the work we put in may not always be on the forefront, but indeed is paying off. #viparitashalabhasana 1w

drewosborne Handstand scorpion before the sun goes down. Recently, I have been in an odd place with my practice. Unbalanced, not feeling the level of physical strength I prefer, honestly not even able to flow through a Sun Salutation without wobbling, and in turn using force within my practice. This brought up mental frustration as I pushed myself too hard, and even though I don't like that my body is asking for me to pull back… today I chose to surrender. I went for a nice walk, found my breath + a calm mind, and as I was watching the sunset decided to ease into #adhomukhavrksasana. Sure enough it came to me. So often we get wrapped up in the physicality of yoga, which don't get me wrong, is amazing… it's what calms my mind, and allows me to explore the self. Although, instead of over exerting my body to reach this state, I am learning more and more that listening to it is key. At the end of the day it is the relationship with the "mind, BODY, and spirit" right? So re-connecting, dismissing the ego, and tuning in to what YOU really need is what it's truly about. This is a challenge I battle… but when my body says stop, next time (maybe) I will remember to listen. 2w
