drandallblythe From the shadows, I saw you rolling by tonight. You were done with your day, half asleep on the #4 train and headed back home to Brooklyn. You raised your head briefly as the train rolled past, & even from the dark of the abandoned station platform, I could still tell what you were thinking by the messed up look on your face. You shouldn't be so open; you really shouldn't wear your heart on your sleeve like that- some of us are out here watching...

drandallblythe Besides Bob Gruen & my bro Vincent Castiglia, there were a few other real-deal photographers & artists who popped by to see my gallery opening- this dude is one, the painter @Davidstoupakis. David did the artwork for the album for Korn's "See You On The Other Side" album- his work is pretty tripped out & surreal- I dig it! Here he is beside a piece of mine he purchased entitled "Cave Mowees"- I took this photo inside a sea cave on Phillip Island, Australia during a rapidly rising incoming tide- sketchy! Thanks for getting it, David! I was super humbled to have professional artists come by to check out my stuff, & even further humbled when a few of them actually bought something. The show catalogue w/price list is up on the gallery site now- www.sacredgallerynyc.com- so y'all can go take a look. Also, the piece that I put up for a charity auction, "GWAR Will Never die!", is still open for bidding, so if anyone wants to get in on that & support a good cause (@art_180)! Thanks! 11h

drandallblythe My bro, the artist @vincent_castiglia, at the closing of his exhibit at the Dorian Grey Gallery in the East Village, NYC. Vincent paints exclusively in iron oxide AKA human blood, & his work has to be seen in person to believed- it's truly amazing. The painting he is standing by, "Stings of the Lash" was done in his own blood, & took about a year to complete. He also recently did a portrait of comedian Margaret Cho in her own blood- it's up somewhere on his Instagram page, along with other work, so check it out. Vincent was the first American artist to be shown in his late friend & mentor H.R. Giger's museum, & in another Swiss connection did artwork for a Triptykon album. Vincent's a great dude, & I was honored when he stopped by my own gallery show & even bought a print! Check his stuff out at www.vincentcastiglia.com. 14h

  •   dmantony I have enjoyed vicariously going on this journey with you. A gallery showing...how exciting and you have presented it with all of the joy of a father showing his new child. Your work is worthy of attention. 3d
  •   skotzo @drandallblythe I made it a point to tell Greta that along with the great photographed images displayed at the exhibit, the framing gave them additional appeal. And that she did a great job with each photograph. To that she said: "Thank you, that means a lot!" Kudos to you for giving her as much props as you've received. 2d

drandallblythe This is one of my photos from my exhibit, entitled "The Beauty of My People", that I took of a lamb of god fan who had come to see us a few years ago with his son in Dallas, Texas- they even had a band together. I never got his name, but if anyone down in Texas can find him, somehow let me know here- tag me on a photo of him holding up a sign saying "Hey Randy, it's me!", & I will get in contact whoever finds him (I have other photos of him too, so don't bother trying to fake me out & get your uncle who sorta looks like him or whatever- I'll recognize the real dude when I see him)- I really want to send him a full-sized print of this photo. I call the photo "The Beauty of my People" because a) he IS one of my people, & b) this dude has a beautiful face to me- he was an oil worker, I believe, and he had lines in his face & he was a working man & he didn't give two shits about trying to "look cool"- he just WAS cool. There's a big difference there. I am not a damn pretty boy metrosexual who is obsessed with youth or any of that shit. My face is my face, & when I get more wrinkles than I already have I won't care. Neither did this guy, & he & his son were awesome to hang out with that afternoon, so if anyone can help me find him, please do so & I will send him a print! Thanks! 3d

drandallblythe This is Greta's business card in one of her little frames, so the address of her Etsy shop is in the picture. Right now there are 9 small signed & framed prints of a piece called "Individual Moment" (the photo of the soldier from the banner), & 3 prints of one photo I call "Alcoholism & Apathy"- I might print more of "Individual Moment", but once the 3 "Alcoholism & Apathy" small prints are gone, that's it, no more. Why? Because it's a photo of a drunken street fight in Philly's Chinatown I saw- we framed it in wood that came out of an actual bar at a place I used to cook at in. So unless Greta finds wood from another bar I used to drink in, it's over- I quit drinking, so I keep the booze stuff in the actual bars of my past, hahaha. So 12 smaller affordable are pieces left for online ordering- if anyone wants 'em- go to: etsy.com/shop/FRAMESBYGRETA. 3d
  •   the_amazing_al @drandallblythe I bought alcoholism and apathy, and a couple other frames she had up. She has awesome stuff. Thanks for introducing her to your fans. I'll tag you when I get it in the mail. 3d
  •   drandallblythe @the_amazing_al Thanks! Please do so! 3d
  •   sweetcg @drandallblythe the "alcoholics and apathy" are sold out! Congrats sir! Wish I saw this earlier! I don't drink either, and the story behind the picture and the frame would have been nice to have! 3d
  •   childinheat DRUGLORD! #doom 3d
  •   tmansdc Great story behind the apathy and alcoholism frames. Last time I drank was on veterans day 2010. Got banned from the mgm grand in Vegas for my drunken behavior, almost ran my mom off the road, called her all sorts of terrible things, and same with my best friend. The next morning when I'd heard all that I felt so bad that I said this shit has got to stop and it has. Best decision ever made. 3d
  •   millerfan01 Hey randy, where do you have a digital version of alcoholism and apathy? I want to buy it but I would need to see it first 3d
  •   drandallblythe @millerfan01 They're gone in the little frames. No more of that one will be had. Full sized version is up along w/price list at www.sacredgallerynyc.com 3d
  •   scottw744 @drandallblythe I saw the interview on metal injection last night, love what she did with your pics at the gallery, I wish I could come but the UK is too far lol. Can't wait to see LoG again, maybe one day I will get to chat to you guys. Stay awesome brother 2d

drandallblythe Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who came to opening night of my first photography exhibit at Sacred Gallery in NYC! It went so amazingly well, I couldn't even believe it! The totally awesome gallery owner, @kevinwilsonnyc, said it was a super well-behaved crowd for an opening (sometimes there are a bunch of assholes who show up just for free booze & make a ruckus, but not my crowd- who says that metal heads are ill-behaved savages? Ok, ok- only when it's appropriate to be, hahaha, but apparently we know how to act in public too!) Everyone was really mellow, I took about a million pictures with folks, and I even sold several pieces! It's a hell of a thing to see your name & art work on a banner on Broadway, & then have a line stretch around the block to get in- I am humbled! The show will be up until June 30th, so if your in NYC pop by & check out the photos- it's free! The online show catalog should be up soon for those who couldn't make it out & wish to purchase something- shoot an email to: info@sacredgallerynyc.com for a price list. Yes, the gallery will ship framed prints. Also there are just 12 of the small framed photos left- Greta put them up on her Etsy shop (look up: FRAMESBYGRETA on Etsy)- if those go, we might do some more for those that want an affordable piece- I gotta get some prints to her & she'll ship 'em out if there is a demand. I'll put up her business card w/next post! Thanks again to everyone who came out- I was super-nervous (my first show) but all of you made me so happy by just showing up & looking at my photos! Cheers, NYC! @sacredgallerynyc #showmewhatyouremadeoff #youpeoplerock!!!!! 3d

  •   aoferrall @drandallblythe So glad my husband and I had the opportunity to make it to your exhibit. It was a pleasure meeting you and being able to view your work. You have a great eye and an amazing way of capturing the human spirit in your photos. I love that you can look at an old face covered in wrinkles and see the beauty in it. I love the emotion. Congrats to you on your first exhibit, and also on your upcoming book which I can't wait to read. 3d

drandallblythe For last night's private showing, we even had a CELEBRITY DOG show up- here's @kevinwilsonnyc with his high-profile pooch, @lennonthepug. I'll be shooting photos of the people who show up at the public opening tonight, so come on out & get yer picture made, as we say in the country! 8pm-11pm, Sacred Gallery, 424 Broadway, NYC- see you there! 4d

drandallblythe Tonight is the public opening of my photography exhibit, but last night we had a small & relaxed private preview for press & friends/VIPs- this gentlemen showed up, one Mr. Bob Gruen, as in THE Bob Gruen, as in the Bob Gruen who was John Lennon's personal photographer. Gruen started out shooting Bob Dylan, & over the years has shot iconic images of bands like The Who, Led Zepplin, Blondie, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, David Bowie, KISS... the list is endless. I was very, very humbled to have such a legendary photographer come see my first exhibit, & he & his wife (the artist Elizabeth Gruen) were awesome people, & even complimented me on my work! Sometimes life is so strange- I am a humbled & blessed person to have the opportunities I have been given. #countyourblessings #remaingrateful 4d
  •   summerxlynn_c So proud of you Randy for everything that you've accomplished after all that you have endured. From a fellow sober stranger.. You're doing fantastic. 4d

drandallblythe Besides the miniature framed prints, I had a few dozen full size prints made of one of my favorite shots in the show, "Individual Moment"- this is the image used for the big-ass show banner I'm standing beside a couple of posts ago. These are unframed, and are not giclée prints on archival fine art paper like the framed version- the cost to do that would be very prohibitive- but they are signed, high quality, professional prints for someone who wants to take a full size (8x12) version of one of the exhibit's pieces home with them instead of a miniature one. $50 per signed print while they last- as well as the prints, I have about three dozen tshirts left for sale with my horned rat photography logo ($25), & there are a ton of FREE show cards & a LIMITED number of stickers made from one of the show's images (don't be greedy with the stickers- they are free, but share, please!) The exhibit is free & open to the public, so even if you're broke, please stop by & say hello! Tonight, 8pm-11pm, Sacred Gallery, 424 Broadway, NYC. See ya there! 4d

drandallblythe I selected five pieces from my show to make small prints of, & my frame maker Greta Brinkman made small frames out of reclaimed wood for them- they are mini-versions of the larger pieces. Greta busted her ass to get these done, & it was her idea, so we're splitting the $ right down the middle- seems fair to me! Signed miniature prints in the custom frames are fifty bucks a pop, and as all the frames are different, it's first come, first serve for these more affordable pieces. The picture in the middle, which I entitled "Alcoholism & Apathy" is of a drunken street fight in Philly's Chinatown I saw one evening when we were playing the Troc. There are only six of these framed, as Greta made the frames out of the actual bar in a restaurant I used to cook at (the old Banditos/Buffalo Joes on Cary in RVA)- kinda fitting to keep the drunken brawl photo literally INSIDE an actual bar I drank so many beers and shots at back in the bad days, hahaha. Cash & carry for these signed pieces tonight at Sacred Gallery, NYC, so bring a little loot with you if you want a piece! 424 Broadway, NYC, 8pm-11pm- see ya there! 4d
  •   howdoesthisthingwork Is this a cash only event @drandallblythe ? 4d
  •   jasonmayeroff Really looking forward to it....my buddy Joe and I will be there in black ties 4d
  •   drandallblythe @howdoesthisthingwork So far, for the smaller items yes- that might change if we get a card reader, which I'm working on, but to be safe I would stop by an ATM. The larger more expensive pieces are cash or credit through gallery owner. 4d
  •   grumpybeark83 Can't wait..on my way! 4d
  •   popsrcr Really hope you have another show in......RVA? 4d
  •   artbyjinikim Had no idea you were an artist also. That's rad as Fuck 4d
  •   kellyfrickey All the cool stuff happens in NYC. I wish I wasn't so far away. 4d
  •   silentjde Had a good time at the show last night, great pictures and story's behind them. Picked up one of the small framed pictures and thanks for taking a moment to sign the couple things I had and take a photo with me, really appreciate it. 4d

drandallblythe New York City- tonight is the night! Sacred Gallery, 424 Broadway (Broadway & Canal), 8pm-11pm! Come on by, say hi, & check out some photography! Yes, I will be there- it could get nutty crowded, or could be mellow- who knows? I'll be in the mix, & I'll try to say hello to everyone, but if it's packed, please remember there is only ONE of me,and a lot of you, so please be patient with me! And one last thing- yes this is attached to a tattoo shop, but it IS AN ART GALLERY, not a heavy metal show, so please refrain from moshing or puking ()- remember, you break it, you buy it! Besides the large pieces on the wall, I'll have some tshirts & more affordable prints & smaller framed prints for sale (photos up next post), as well as some FREE stickers & show cards which I'll certainly sign if you ask me. Gallery doors open at 8- see ya there- I look forward to it! 5d

drandallblythe I'm getting more and more stoked about tomorrow night's opening of my first gallery show, "Show Me What You're Made Of". I have 35 large custom framed pieces up for sale, as well as a few other less expensive things that will be available for purchase. One of the pieces, the photo in this picture, is going to be auctioned off for charity, and the gentleman in this picture, @adoom666, has already put in the first bid (bidding started at $600)- Adam is a friend of the gallery owner, so he got a sneak peek & decided to kick it off with 6 Benjamins! I took the photo, which is entitled "GWAR Will Never Die!" at the last GWAR-B-QUE, the first show GWAR performed without Dave Brockie. In memory of Dave Brockie, and to honor his love of art, the gallery owner, @kevinwilsonnyc & I will donate 100% of all proceeds from the sale of this photo to Art 180, a Richmond, VA based nonprofit that brings art programs to children & young adults ages 8-18 who normally don't have access to such things. Funding for the arts gets cut more and more each year, & Art 180 does good work- I know Dave would be pleased that we are doing this in his memory. The auction runs until 8 pm on May 8, one week from today. For information on bidding, email info@sacredgallerynyc. Help support @art_180, & stop by to see the rest of my work! (And yes, @adoom666 is a tall man- 7 feet tall, to be exact) 5d

@damienechols, @drandallblythe & @kevinwilsonnyc are going to start a scavenger hunt here in NYC today. Two lucky people will have the chance to get the VIP experience for @drandallblythe's "Show Me What You're Made Of" exhibition. We're not going to post perks just yet but here's how you can get one.
Today, we'll hide two of these around NYC for you to find. Two different locations. 8pm we'll post a photo of the area where it's hidden. (Hint) will be south of Houston. North of battery park.
If you find it, you must email info@sacredgallerynyc.com with the info we put on the back to know the email is legit.
Good luck!

drandallblythe My pal @damienechols stopped by the gallery yesterday while we were making some last minute adjustments. Damien is the coolest guy- he & my friends @aceyslade & @dougb11 showed up right as I arrived in NYC to help me & the gallery owner load all my photos into the gallery. Here's Damien chillin' next to a piece I entitled "Situational Awareness"- it's a photo I took while I was lurking around the subway tunnels of NYC last year. Damien wrote a book called "Life After Death", which I highly recommend. It helped me put things in perspective a couple of years ago when I was going through a rough spot. Great writer & a superlative human being. Don't forget to stop by Sacred Gallery for my opening, this Saturday, 8-11pm, 424 Broadway, Soho, NYC- see ya there! 7d
