drandallblythe This is what a completed 1st draft of a book manuscript looks like. I wrote this myself, mostly over the last eight months, and I finished it today at precisely 2:09 pm. Next to it is an abridged dictionary I got for a quarter at a thrift store, placed there for perspective (in real life, I use a massive 3,000 pound unabridged dictionary, of course). The single space typed manuscript stands thicker than the 600+ page dictionary- now it's time to trim the fat. I have to do a quick edit of the last three chapters and the epilogue over the next few days, then send them to my editors, then the ball is in their court for a while- it's time to let them kill some of my darlings, to paraphrase a saying often erroneously attributed to Faulkner. There is still work to be done, but the worst is over. I did it. I saw it through. I fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine: I wrote a book, I can hold it in my hands, and I am damn proud of it. The work is good. And right about now, I must admit I am feeling pretty damn MAJESTIC. I can't wait to do it again. 16h

drandallblythe This is the headstock of a banjo my father made for the Carter Center (I posted about it here a while back). The inlays are hand cut, as is everything else about the banjo (except the metal hardware). The thing went for almost 15 grand at auction, & yesterday a piece about the banjo ran in Bluegrass Today- it's the old man's first piece of music press! Check it out if ya wish: it's up under the heading "Wayne Blythe- Carter Center Banjo" at www.bluegrasstoday.com. I'm proud of ya, Pops! 6d
  •   amongtheruin That's OUTSTANDING. Congrats to him and you must be very proud. 6d

  •   christian_oldewolbers @drandallblythe I miss you my metal brother!! It's been a long time! Hope you're well! 4d
  •   westleylstudios @drandallblythe What is the one photo that you've taken that has stopped you dead in your tracks the moment you took it. That photo you look at and just go "Wow... I took that... " as you sit to appreciate a piece of art that you're still trying to realize that you've created. Just curious. 4d
  •   linda_snowmagic We still have my grand father's banjo. Banjo's were great, sadly we don't know how to play it, my father and I 3d

drandallblythe If you feel like, check out an interview I did with my bro @jameyjasta for the latest episode of his podcast, "The Jasta Show", available on iTunes, Stitcher, & Soundcloud for free. We did the interview the first day of the GWARBQUE, after the public memorial for @therealoderus. It's always easier to do interviews with people I am friends with- it's more like a loose conversation. We talk about Brockie, security & barricades at shows, steak & titties, my whole legal deal, my book, all that stuff & it we do it in a casual manner as friends do when they talk- not much about lamb of god, despite what all the metal blogs are blaring " RANDY SAYS NEW LAMB OF GOD ALBUM EARLY 2015!!!!"- take that with a grain if salt, ok, because they also ignore the fact that during the interview I also say "The new album isn't written yet" - It will come out when it comes out, after it's done & we are happy with it. When that will be, we shall see- we kinda gotta write the thing first, ya know? I don't have a crystal ball, & I got no other answers than it will come out when it's done. Overall the podcast came out really well though, & I always like sitting down with Jamey, so check it out- he's a good interviewer. 2w

drandallblythe Low tide chest high close outs all the way down the line this morning- let the eating of shit begin. Crinkled the nose of the 9 footer pearling into 3 feet of water- off we go to the ding repair shop. Crapper. That's what I get for being stupid & aggro. Sigh... 2w
  •   squidbillie93 Jamming to the same, you gotta be kidding me. \m/ \m/ ~the New York Times affect on man~ 2w
  •   drandallblythe @swellcuda Yeah, I just KNEW BETTER than to go for it at the break I was surfing at that time a low tide. Especially on a freaking 9' log, hahaha. I was being aggro because I had to go inland for a bit- stupid move. 2w

drandallblythe Chicago! Riotfest! Are you ready for SAMHAIN tomorrow? This will be their first full set since '86, & marks the 30th anniversary of their first EP, Initium, which is about as big an influence on me as any record about there- so pure, & so dark. I AM FREAKING PUMPED BEYOND BELIEF to be witnessing this. 30 bloody years- bring it! A dark wind is blowing your way, Chicago... 3w

drandallblythe A little sunset paddle board cruise around the pier is always nice. And it's extra-nice now too, because things are back to normal. The tourists are gone, the beach is quiet, & peace has returned to my tiny kingdom by the sea. It's time for LOCALS'S SUMMER- meaning that for little while longer, the water is still warm, the air is nice, & the screeching hordes of idiots have gone back to whatever hell hole they crawled out of... ok, that's not very nice, & not all of them were screeching idiots (I even met a few very nice ones), but damn most of those people got on my nerves after a while. I am proud of myself for not mangling anyone this season- I haven't lived through a whole entire tourist season in a looooooooong time, not since I was a kid- I had forgotten what it was like, how brutal it could be. Of course as a kid, it was much more fun- "Welcome to our beach, thanks for bringing your daughters, now LEAVE" as the old bumper sticker said, hahaha. The way people go to the beach seems to have changed, too. Back in the day you brought a towel, maybe a cooler, maybe a book, maybe a little chair- THAT'S IT though. What more do you really need? Nowadays, apparently you need A LOT more- everyone totes these ridiculous beach carts full of a zillion damn things for their freaking kids to play with- it looks like these people are moving onto the beach PERMANENTLY with all the crap they carry. It's actually painful to watch them humping all that crap across the sand. Why? Because they are MISSING THE POINT. I want to scream at them "Leave all your toys at home. Get in the water. Look at things like THIS. It's right in front of you, but you are too consumed by all your STUFF to see it." Then they leave a bunch of trash on the beach. Ugh. But until next June, it will be peaceful. Aaaaaaaaahhhhh....... 3w

drandallblythe Today is Saturday, & the waves are shot. But that's ok, because I just got this marvelous blu-ray in the mail for $9, & it is time for the return of... STRICTLY SWAYZE SATURDAYS. Those of you who followed me on twitter back when I still had one will surely remember the magnificence & weekly heart-pounding anticipation of STRICTLY SWAYZE SATURDAYS. This wonderful, heartwarming (even almost SPIRITUAL), observance of all things SWAYZE started in back in 2005 during a 9 week tour we did with Slipknot & Shadows Fall. I got a few SWAYZE movies for cheap at truck stops along the way, & began screening them all day every Saturday. Soon other members of the tour began to find, buy, & give me SWAYZE movies as we burned a sweaty path down the rock-n-roll road of destiny. I made that whole tour go SWAYZE CRAZY. How awesome does "Road House" look in an empty arena projected on giant video screens hours before a show starts? PRETTY DAMN AWESOME, I can tell you that much. Ah, those were the golden days... But that was then, & this is now, & STRICTLY SWAYZE SATURDAYS are back & they will NEVER DIE. I texted Corey T yesterday to let him know it's on again, & he was PUMPED, & you should be too! So kick back this Saturday, watch the awesomeness that is "Point Break", & get your stoke on! STRICTLY SWAYZE SATURDAYS: for yourself. For your family. For your community. FOR AMERICA. (next week: "Next of Kin") #getpumped #strictlyswayzesaturdays #gobacktothevalley, man 4w

drandallblythe The beach is great for many, many things: surfing, paddleboarding, swimming, fishing, eating seafood, pretty sunsets, and just all around chilling. Plus, every now and then, a random hot chick in a bikini will suddenly just start doing back flips in the sand for no discernible reason other than to be awesome. Life is good. 1mon

drandallblythe The waves got really good right around sunset. I tried my best to get slotted today, but no barrels yet- waves closed out all the way down the line. Then as the sun was gone, they started peeling perfectly- agh! But it was still a wonderful feeling today. Charging into the sunset... 1mon
  •   btownshreds How's the swell right now? It's peaking pretty huge in Newport & Huntington Beach 1mon
  •   wunguy18 I love the color of the water 1mon
  •   cheznrice14 Are the waves really that tall or is that the camera angle ? I never get a chance to be at the ocean when the waves are up like that . 1mon
  •   drandallblythe @iamduckeye Word! I'm bringing a wetsuit. Can you find me a long board or a fun board? I'm not a short board ripper kinda dude. I like to cruise & go FAST. 4w
  •   iamduckeye @drandallblythe of course! @paulawasiak Paula has a dusty stick in the shed (pfffff, yes, that is also my willy) and we'll find a long board on this island somewhere no worries. Stay as long as you like, spare car as usual. 4w
  •   paulawasiak Everyone has at least a board or two here, we'll be able to hook you up :) 4w

drandallblythe It's always cool to surf with David, the dude from the last photo, because we can take turns shooting photos. David took this photo of me- here's your's truly cranking low into a bottom turn, caveman style (the best style). Only way to not get wiped out today the way these things are breaking straight down the line. 1mon

drandallblythe My surfing bro David tucking in low this morning. Shooting into sun at the point & the light wasn't the best, so I decided to have a little fun with the edit. I like shooting waves & surfers surfing them. The only problem is I like surfing them as well. It's so good for your soul is unbelievable. This is the first year I've taken surfing seriously though (usually on tour in the summer- nice to just be working on a book instead for a bit), & this dude has taught me a lot. 50+ years old & still charging like a freaking maniac. 1mon
  •   jaimexcali I love this photo. 1mon
  •   oninrawr Come to Bali Randy @drandallblythe 1mon
  •   undeadcrown You're only as old as you feel 1mon
  •   cmarnold25 @itsfl4gsh1p wow! 1mon
  •   drandallblythe @undeadcrown Then I must be about a hundred years old because my body hurts like a motherfucker. I always thought that was the silliest saying. Sorry, IT JUST ISN'T TRUE. Doesn't mean at 43 years old I don't still skate, surf, kayak, SUP surf, go hiking & camping all that other crazy shit I've always done, in fact I'm doing it all BETTER now....BUT, as any old dude who still rips in anyway shape form or fashion- that "you are as old as you feel" stuff is a LOAD OF CRAP. Shit hurts when you get old, hahaha 1mon
  •   drandallblythe @undeadcrown and no offense bro, but you always hear that saying from young people in their 20's, which I'm assuming you are. Just wait until you hit 40, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA 1mon
  •   undeadcrown @drandallblythe hahaha 24 years old! I just work at a senior center so I get a constant reminder of what to look forward to. crazy though, room right across from the seniors is a kindergarten hah! 1mon
  •   rollingcloud1 @drandallblythe awesome pic bro 1mon

drandallblythe The swell is still growing, but waves are closing out all the way down the line really quick- hard to get into the pocket & cruise. Went for a couple of suicide barrels- ouch! Drop in is steep, nasty, & close to shore. Still fun just to stick one though. 1mon

  •   thesaaaaaaviour Hey randy. I have a question. In the kiladelphia concert you played a part of Quran in the beginning. Can I ask you what was the point? Plz answer me buddy 1mon
  •   drandallblythe @thesaaaaaaviour It was sort of a political statement that went along with the lyrics of the album we had out at the time, Ashes of the Wake. Look up the time period of that record, read the lyrics to the record, & draw your own conclusions. It should be fairly obvious though, if you know what was happening then. The intro had nothing to do with religion whatsoever. People often make that mistake. 1mon
  •   blacklabele1 @drandallblythe I do apologize..... I guess I had a lil moment of being judgemental. I have tha same problem with alcohol as u so I guess thats why I responded tha way I did. Im a natural asshole n tha drink amplifies it. May we both stay sober forever. 3w
