drandallblythe OUCH! Things didn't go so well for me & Chang Hsien once the riot cops showed up on the set- both of us caught a pretty good beating from the po-po, but hey- that's show biz, right? For those of you who don't know who he is, Chang Hsien is the main star of the movie I'm in- he's a pretty big deal in Taiwan, has starred in movies, & is the host of the #1 rated TV show in Taiwan, the Taiwanese version of "American Idol" or "The Voice" (some sort of show like that with a name I can't pronounce). Everywhere we go, people (especially women) recognize him- "AGH! AGH! OMG, IT'S CHANG HSIEN!!!" (in Taiwanese or Mandarin) He's a really cool dude, & we have been having a ton of fun making this movie together- lots of joking on the set. Chang Hsien is also a surfer like myself, & we hope to rip some waves in Taiwan together, if not this trip then the next time I come back. 22h

  •   bobdyn It's cool to see you having fun in there. Wish to see you again in Canada. 16h
  •   imjosieh Haha you sound you enjoyed it 13h
  •   drandallblythe @kill_choi Um......even if that were true, it wouldn't help, as I don't know Cantonese (my mother-in-law speaks it though). But Cantonese is Cantonese. Taiwanese is Taiwanese, also known as Hokkien. Totally different language. They speak Cantonese in southern China, Hong Kong, & Macau. In Taiwan they speak Mandarin & Taiwanese. 2h

drandallblythe One thing that is rather unnerving to me about Taipei is the COMPLETE LUNACY of its traffic. I am very nervous whenever I have to cross the street here, because these people drive like total maniacs (not the worst though- the award for most insane traffic I have ever seen goes to Jakarta, Indonesia- it's amazing that there is a single person left alive in that town as crazy as they drive). The thousands of scooters that zip through this city at top speed are a severe menace to any pedestrian's health. And it's not just crossing the street, it's ANYWHERE outside. People drive scooters on the sidewalks, through alleys, through outdoor malls- you can get run over at anytime the second you step out your front door, & you have to stay on your toes at all times until you are safely back inside. I'm not even joking. Young people, old people, three people on one scooter, two people and a dog like in this picture- it's TOTALLY NUTS. If I lived here I would just take the subway. 23h
  •   meekanicole I'm beginning to think most Asian countries have crazy traffic. I feared for my life in Thailand but I've been told that's far from the worst. Okinawa had crazy traffic in a completely different way. They were so polite it became dangerous. I'd still go back to either in a heartbeat :) 20h
  •   komarkomarkomar @drandallblythe since we're already have the new governor and president why don't you come again and just have a chat with our "metalhead" president about a possibility to do an annual metal fest here in Jakarta 😎 19h
  •   pp111289 @drandallblythe u forget the traffic in India too my friend. :D 19h
  •   wm0ntes You just gotta walk with no consideration. The drivers will just go around you. Do it try to avoid them because you are both likely to go the same direction and get hit 18h
  •   yossiesam @gabbynamm Look at this badass dog not giving a fuck 18h
  •   riggly1 @drandallblythe the traffic there is insane I went with the old man and we were shown around the city. Bright side we had some delicious mongolian BBQ there 17h

drandallblythe I have been in Taiwan for a while now, & I have shot a lot of cool photos, but I haven't had time to edit or post any of them recently because of the filming schedule of this crazy movie I am in. Most days I'm up at 6 am & have left the hotel for the set by 7, & most nights I don't get back to the hotel until at least 11 pm. Then I wait for a text to let me know what, when, & where we're shooting tomorrow- not a lot of time for sleep, much less screwing around with photos. But it's been super fun- I've gotten to do a ton of really cool stuff with the movie so far. I've had lines in English (the majority, thank God), Japanese (different language with no common root, but similar to English in structure), Mandarin (VERY different from English- a language with 4 different tones- that means the same word means something entirely different depending on the tone it is said in), & Taiwanese (EXTREMELY different language from English- 7 DIFFERENT TONES). This has made acting a very, very interesting undertaking for me, to say the least. But everyone is totally awesome on the crew, the director is happy with my performances (so I'm told), & it's been great to be with my friends in Chthonic in their homeland again- love those peeps! This movie is gonna be pretty damn awesome, I think. I saw this lantern the other day & thought it looked cool. 23h

  •   jasonmayeroff Randy, if and when you have free time, I strongly advise you to take a train down the eastern side of Taiwan. There is a really beautiful place called Liyu Lake near Hualien. Liyu Lake is one of my favorite places for running in the world. Liyu Lake is an incredibly peaceful and beautiful place. Then head farther south, down to Taitung. I am not a surfer but I am told that there are some infamously good places to surf down there. The seafood and fresh fruit is excellent down there. Enjoy your time in Taiwan! 14h

drandallblythe First day at a new job. Ok, despite the fact that I love running all over Asia, taking pictures, & eating, I am really here to WORK. This is my friend Doris & I earlier today on the set of a movie that she & her band, Cthonic are making. Cthonic are from Taiwan, & they have been good friends of mine since we did Ozzfest '07 together. Three years ago they flew me over to sing a few songs with them at a show they held in an ancient temple in the mountains of Taiwan, then me & my wife kicked it here for two weeks on vacation- Taiwan is a beautiful island, one of the hidden jewels of Asia I believe, & I couldn't wait to come back. Then earlier this year Freddy (Cthonic's singer) asked me "Hey, do you wanna be in an action movie we are making?" Let's see, lemme think about tha- UM, YES. So I flew here from Japan after Knotfest & started filming today. The movie is supposed to primarily be a comedy with lots of action & knowing Cthonic, a bit of politics- without giving away too much of the plot, let's just say there is a bit of civil unrest my character & the star of the movie (who is a really famous actor in Taiwan) participate in. I'll put some behind the scenes shots up as I get time- early call for the set tomorrow, so I'm gonna crash. PS- these are not my sunglasses- I'm supposed to look "Rock Star-ish" & my regular clothes weren't rock star enough (I guess the Army surplus store on the Southside of RVA doesn't carry rock star duds, hahaha)- the sunglasses kinda make feel 1970's Asian film star though- kinda like late era-Bruce Lee. But a lot taller. And not Asian. And without being able to crush someone's chest with a one inch punch. Dammit! Ok, so I'm not like Bruce Lee at all, hahaha. Still, it's gonna be FUN. PPS- no, there is no English title for the movie... YET. I'll let y'all know when there is one. 7d

drandallblythe You don't want to mess with this dude- he's the OG running shit all over the whole temple. I was kicking it around today taking photos of trees & fish & stuff & this very nice but strange man who spoke very little English suddenly grabbed me & took me past a sign that CLEARLY SAID "Please do not enter this room" to show me this guy. Apparently he's like the head God/policeman of the land of that temple. My friends came & found me & I was pointing at the dude & asking about him & they said "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE POINTED AT HIM!"- OH SHIT! My bad, dude! Don't smite me or nothing! Then I asked if it was ok for me to be taking pictures of the man, & they said "Yes, I think it's ok, as long as you tell him your gonna take his picture." So I apologized for being rude & pointing to old boy & told him I was gonna snap a few shots of him. He seemed cool with it. Whew! That was close! I dig his hat. 7d

drandallblythe A peaceful meditation protest for human rights in the rain. These people are members of Falun Gong, a group that has been violently suppressed in China, where the government sees them as politically heretical & a threat to the existing social order under the communist regime. From what I can tell, the Falun Gong thing seems to be a combination of Buddhism, Taoism, & Qigong, with an emphasis on personal cultivation of mental, physical, ethical, & spiritual health. They don't seem to be doing any harm that I can tell, but they are treated very, very badly in China. Let them be, I say. Who ever hurt anyone by just sitting, meditating, & trying to be a better person? 1w

drandallblythe Absolutely great show at Knotfest in Tokyo last night, then great times with my homies @willadler & @jacobydakotashaddix wandering the Blade Runner neon streets of Shibuya afterwards. Thanks to @slipknot for having us- it was a blast! And I would like to wish all my boys in lamb of god & our crew a great flight home to the States today- safe travels, homies! But I will not be emerging from behind the Bamboo Curtain quite yet. It's not my style to fly across the globe, play 8 songs in 40 minutes, then fly home- D. Randall does not operate like that. I still have moves to make in Asia- there are things to be done, & I am gonna stay on my grind out here a bit longer. I'll have an update for y'all in a day or two from somewhere in Asia. ( @myketyrrble #thinkingbossthoughts #makingbossplans #executingbossmanuevers hahaha) 1w

  •   militsa666 Hello Mr. D Randall. Only if you know how I envy you, having the opportunity to tour the world.I wish I could also do it. Anyway dont know if you've heard of country called Bulgaria, one of the Balkan states. Beautiful country bordering the Black Sea. (there is not a lot of surfing though).Bearing in mind that you love nature, im sure that you will love it there. It is considered a little backward country, but in my humble opinion that is a good thing. In many of the smaller settlements you can still see sheep or cow dung(shit) in the streets. Many people dont want to give up their animals, regardless of the European Union rules. With the upcoming holidays in Bulgaria is a tradition.Neighbor calls the neighbor for help,to slaugter the pig,(I know it sounds nasty, but is the same as going hunting). The feeling may be quite soothing If you are angry with someone. You see the pig is housed and fed all year pending the holidays.( poor pig, if it knew what will happen). As I said families gather (that's my point),and is a such a joy. The party can lasts like 20 days, depends on how many pigs are in the neighborhood...LOL... And with some good music is just the tip.If I have intrigued you with my bloody story about Bulgaria, check it out. There is everything for all types of people. And please dont laugh If I have misspellings. It wasn't me, it was Google translate....chatting is not my thing, prefer to socialise by seeing the person in front of me.(is not like i'm gona se you, ever).Have it nice. 1w
