dizzlerivera The @crossfitla #BuddyBattle2014 was amazing today. As a coach, I was proud to be part of such a great event, but as a mother watching these two compete punches me in the heart. They are so strong and fierce. Maya, 19, went for it in the big-girl Rx division because she's fearless! dizzlerivera I have a soft spot for this photo, not because of the weight but my #downinthedumps demeanor. I've been a little heavier 4x's in my life: 1. At 19 when I was so broke my main meals were cookies from the bakery I worked for. 2&3. After giving birth 4. Ten years ago when I was pretty down and upset about closing my business,and I emotionally ate from Thanksgiving to the Epiphany. I'm a slow learner - intentionally. Leaning out, muscle gain, building some mental fortitude take time. dizzlerivera I want to reiterate something about my decision to become a #veganbikinicompetitor : I am in no way disappointed in how I look right now. I love my body. I'm excited to get leaner and stronger, but these things are in no way a requirement for my worthiness or to be accepted by anyone else. I'm not doing this for higher self-esteem. I have that. For me this is training like any other sport -- a fun, new sport -- where I'll have to learn and sometimes fumble through the process with patience, practice, and consistency. I'm emphasizing this point, and will continue to emphasize it, because of these two. I have spent their whole lives working to break the pattern of women's body shame and self loathing around appearance, which throughout the ages has showed up no matter what size we are. There is no health or happiness to be found when those things weigh so heavily on us. And maybe I can get them to bust through that bullshit. My #vegkini journey will be hard and will test my mental toughness. And I can't wait to show what a #veganathlete can do.   •   dizzlerivera @mountainlovinmama Hi! No coach - yet. I gave myself a lot of time before the show (Feb 14) and divided the training and nutritional transitions into 5 different stages/time frames. These first 8 weeks I'm cleaning everything up nutritional and tried to concentrate on higher protein and low sugar. I've also added isometrics on top of CF workouts. I still eat a couple cheat meals a week, only one with sugar. After the first 8 weeks, more tweaks will be made. I don't think I could do this going immediately hardcore. . I've done a lot of research, I know myself pretty well, and I have some great resources at my gym. I'm going to go without a true coach for as long as possible but I'll probably need help 10-12 weeks out. I'm about 25 weeks out now. 2w
