dekchair Gender differences: age 3. 5h
  •   dekchair To elaborate: Augie had to be convinced that Lydia should be able to have a turn with his new mower. When he accepted that fact he took it to her and she still refused to have a turn, seemingly only because Augie had taken too long to offer her a turn (but I may be wrong!). Augie looked to me to ask with his eyes, "What the heck is going on?", to which I could only respond with: "Sometimes we just can't understand. Best to accept that now". 5h
  •   the_minor_key I get like that. Also if I show you something I've made (artistically) and you don't respond with enthusiasm in regards to how awesome it is I have been known to destroy the artwork. Fragile much? 4h

dekchair For the second time in as many weeks Augie tonight asked me: "Dadda, who made us?" and I was no better prepared this time. I rarely, if ever, feel like I've failed as a parent and it's not a good feeling. :/ 3w
  •   mirandahenrietta It is tricky. Tell him what you believe and tell him that you could be wrong and that other people believe other things... 3w
  •   dottaylor What do you believe? 3w
  •   haberdasheryentwistle So tell him what you believe and I'll do the same and then he'll know that different people believe differently. How is that failing as a parent? 3w
  •   gwcatt "That's a good question, Augie. Is that an ice cream van?" Parenting 101. You're welcome. 3w
  •   twothirdssky Dek, you haven't failed, these are the good questions. The ones we hope they will ask themselves all their lives. I answer these ones with further questions ... What do you think Augie? 3w
  •   pinkysdreamz247 Yes, I second the answering questions with questions at this stage. You merely want to help him explore the possibilities, not jade his own answer. It's not a fail situation - this is the question that stems off of 'why are we here' and we may never know or understand, let alone from a child's point of view. You do have to steer in other directions at times too (the 'redirect') so that he does not dwell. So much to learn yet before he can form solid thoughts around this question anyway. Logic is the only key though. No silver spoons here. 3w
  •   nundra I agree that it's a great idea to tell Augie what you both believe, each with the emphasis that this is 'just one theory' & that no one really knows for sure... @dekchair @haberdasheryentwistle 2w
