davidavila26 Being busy is good but also a trap. Busy means you are occupied doing something. But is it something of worth? You can be busy consuming or creating. While both have their benefits to an individual, we shouldn't be too busy with one or the other.
I once consumed too much. Not just food, though that too, but the "good life". Party every weekend, be under the influence too long, play too manu video games, watch too many movies, it was like a constant vacation. It was a fun ride but my production wasn't very high. I asked myself: "what am i doing to make my life and other peoples lives better?" I asked that and changed many things for myself and others.
I stopped the partying and being under the influence. I started to volunteer more with various non profits, I started to spend more time with my real friends and family, and I started creating that which I would be proud of. It's an ongoing process and always will be.
So ask yourself, "what am i doing to benefit myself and others?" It's tough to do so when it's a struggle. Find your own creativity to produce something meaningful. It doesn't even have to be tangible. It can be your thoughts, life philosophy, words of wisdom, just put it out there! Leave something behind that you have learned. You never know who out there is reading or listening that can greatly benefit from YOUR wisdom. Be a student of life and a mentor of life when possible. Go out and volunteer to help others or a cause greater than yourself.

davidavila26 Thoughts of surrender often come during difficult moments. We think it would be easier to just give in and not continue the fight. Truth is, not continuing the pursuit is so much more difficult. It isn't just in the physical challenges, but those mental and life challenges we all encounter.
I look at my current situation and realize how much of a toll it takes on me at times. I am focused and calm on the outside when my internal reality is different. I wish things were easy and different but they are not because life isn't always easy or how we want it to be. Embracing the suck and enjoying challenges posed by lofe are really the only options we have.
Taking a small break this past week with my wonderful girlfriend helped a lot. It gave me so much mental clarity, helped to repurpose my thoughts, and re ignited a flame that was being burnt out. I love the California coast and being able to enjoy it on such an intimate level was the refresher i needed.
So take that time when you feel lile quitting to find your coast. Take some time to gather your thoughts and find that purpose once again. Don't let the easy way out wash you away for temporary relief. Embrace your challenges and seek victory over them.

davidavila26 Empowering people is something we can all do but many choose to do so. It’s easier to look at the actions of someone else and belittle it for being different than your own. It’s much harder to acknowledge that a persons individual skills are better than yours or they may just be different. Why do so many people choose to put others down? There may be a multitude of reasons but I believe it comes down to fear. The fear of being inferior, of losing standing, of being seeing as less than what you are. But really, why must someone fear that? By giving acknowledgement to others and empowering them to pursue their passions we are liberated from this fear and we ourselves are empowered. Passion is contagious. You find that one thing you are passionate about and you will see it spread to every corner of your life. It will drive you with purpose and when your mind is set on accomplishing any given goal, you will feel a sense of freedom and power you never felt before. The key is to find that passion and pursue it without anyone else trying to to hold you down. You must also not try to hold or belittle anyone else for trying to accomplish something. You may find yourself meeting someone who is trying to emulate you and purse the same goals as you. Let them, guide them, and teach them if possible. Imitation is the sinceriest form of flattery and that in itself is a testament to your own passion as it has ignited a flame within someone else. Empower the people around you with passion and purpose and you will see your own life benefit from it. Make it honest and don’t say it only to make someone feel good. Say it because you mean it and truly wish to see others be as successful as they want to be, because when you are grinding to make your own dreams a reality, those people who have empowered you will be the ones you remember the most. 2mon

davidavila26 We create worlds for ourselves. We attract what is in our minds and our hearts. You control how you feel. Upset about something? Ask yourself why. Is it the situation or your reaction towards it? Some external things are out of our control, but our reactions to them are well within our control.
Look, i am not saying to not be sad or angry. We need to experience those emotions. It is whar makes us human. How can we ever possibly know true happiness if have never experienced sadness? How can we feel bliss without knowing anger? All negative emotions exist for a reason, but we all can decide how we react towards them.

Life will always have its ups and its down. We are dynamic beings existing in an ever changing universe and we musy embrace each change.
Don't mask your true feelings with drugs and other escapist behavior. Learn to embrace them as they will show you what other true positive feelings should feel like.
Find your own peace. Surround yourselves with people that bring you up. Seek new challenges that make you feel alive. Learn to accept negative emotions as they make the positive ones that much more enjoyable.

davidavila26 Our mind, heart, and sould must be set to purpose with the same goal. The body is but a vessel in which our true essence travels in on this plane to accomplish what we truly desire. Our time here ia short in comparison to the true nature of time and existence. Don't be afraid to love passionately. Don't be afraid to feel vulnerable. Don't hold back at the moment because that can be lost at any time.
We are all capable of self actualizing once we set ourselves to purpose. We must all be willing to adapt and overcome to move forward into the future. The past exists in our memories, but it is no longer our reality. Face your fears, your hopes, your impossible dreams with the conviction that only you can make them a reality.
Experience life with happiness, love, and positive energy. Many of us exist but do not truly live. Stop merely existing as a being in this universe.
Set goals, make deadlines, restructure if you fail, but don't die long before death comes to you. Love with no conditions. Love with with no regrets. Live with anticipation of the future. Live for the future.

davidavila26 My first and only #wcw and #wce . We met, we talked, we laughed, we shared each other past, and continue to do so to this day and into the future. She inspires me to be a better man and what more could a person ask for? She is the only woman I trust with my dreams, goals, aspirations, and above all my heart.
We pull each other up when we feel down. We push each other further than we could on our own. She reminded me of a thing called love. She makes me feel something I haven't felt before.
I love her smile, her gaze, and when she looks at me with those eyes I fall in love all over again.

davidavila26 Sometimes you just gotta get out there to run, jump, swing, and pick shit up. Sometimes you have to break out of the ordinary and do something different for a change. It helps clear the mind and refresh the body.

davidavila26 Morning fog.

Driving through this was a bit surreal as the heaviness dropped visibility significantly.
Did you know that there are only a handful of other places in the world that have the right combination of characteristics to see this type of weather? The heavy morning fog that burns off to create warm and sunny afternoons. Those places include the Canary Islands, Peru and Namibia in Southern Africa.

davidavila26 What a month.
These past few weeks have been filled with a slew of different highs and lows. It's not often that we encounter periods in our lives that will demand the most of us from a physical, mental, and spiritual perspective.
Still, life moves forward and so should we. Why waste time pondering about everything and feeling sorry for ourselves? Stress will always be there. It can propel us forward but also bring us down. Learn to work with it and use it to maximize yourself. Take moments of serenity for yourself and embrace that which is freely given. Learn to let go of negative energy and recognize that which brings you happiness.

davidavila26 Gotta keep practicing that spear throw. One of the most frustrating obstacles at the Spartan Race. You hit the target and move on, you miss and thats a 30 burpee penalty. This is crucial as missing can cost a lot of time during the race.
Hopefully this new training tool will eliminate any more misses or our team. Practice, practice, practice. That's all we can do to prepare ourselves.
Simple workout i made for this:
5 spear throws.
For every one that you miss, do 5 burpee pull ups.
That's one round.
Do as many rounds as possible in 30 minutes.
If ypu hit all 5, aside from being a bad ass, you can take it easy and do a 200m sprint then back to it.
If you have any training questions or want to start training for your next obstaclr race at the world famous Metroflex Gym in Long Beach, send me a message or ask me here!

davidavila26 At the end of the Spartan race two weeks ago with some members of our OCR team. This race marks 1 exact year since I've started competing in both OCR and trail running. Still learning a lot and striving to constantly improve. Huge shout out to my team mates for all of the support during the race and especially during training. The races are challenging, but it's the training that is truly difficult. That daily grind and internal battle of doing things the right way or the easy way. Special thanks to my friend and coach/trainer @manbehindmetroflex who stands beside me during my training and believes in me even when i doubt myself. Thanks brother!
To anyone contemplating doing a race, do it! Please feel free to dm me if you have any questions or seek help/advice.

davidavila26 Sometimes we just need to change our perspective. We can get so caught up in looking at things one way, we fail to see how it can all be perceived differently. It's not enough to think outaide of the box, we need to be able to see things in an abstract way and completely change our point of view. This can change how we approach things, how we deal with adversity, and how we live our lives. 5mon

davidavila26 It's raining, it's pouring
A black sky is falling
It's cold tonight

There was a time, there was a place
But there was fear inside
A witty line to save my face
A parachute of pride
To cross the line takes a tiny step
But will the spark cause the bridge to burn?
My fear entwined with my regret
I beat a path for safe return

And when the big wheel starts to spin
You can never know the odds
If you don't play, you'll never win

davidavila26 The day before my third race in just as many months. I have 2 more races in two weeks. December 6th & 7th. Then two more in January all the way till June. It's been just over a year since I've started competitive running and it has been a pretty amazing journey.
I've succeeded and failed in my goals but have learned along the journey. I have been face down in the mud and climbed the highest peak in the area with amazing views. I've fallen down, injured myself, battled the elements, got stung by bees on my neck twice in one race and the stingers got stuck and stayed in until long after the race, and still continue to press forward.
I continue to run in the Elites and I've questioned that choice, particulary after the Spartan Beast in monterrey. However, pride has kept me in and the will to act. It pushes me to train harder, learn more, and push even further beyond my comfort zone. I look at some of these amazing atheletes I'm competing against and I am inspired to be at the starting line with them and push through to the finish. I look to the people I train with at Metroflex Gym, Long Beach who's day in and day out hustle motivates me. People who take the time to share their knowledge and experiences with me I am eternally grateful for.
I was never a serious runner before and I don't know exactly what triggered this drive to compete. Maybe it was always there, dormant and waiting for the right spark to light up. Whatever the reason, I'm glad its here. I still can't put into words exactly why I do it, I just love it. Maybe that's the only reason I need. Maybe that's the only reason any of us need to do anything. For the love of it.

  •   f_benavides Nah man that's what it's all about--I'm training for "The Canyons endurance 100k" in May--it has 14k gain and drop in 62 miles--then maybe take a shot at a 100 miler in Oct. 5mon
  •   f_benavides But I'm down to run the one up in Monterrey--when I'm down south lets hit up Mt. Wilson or baldy. 5mon
  •   davidavila26 @f_benavides yea I'm not there yet.... haha... though there is a possibility I'll be doing worlds toughest mudder in 2015.....for now im focusing on the xterra trail runs and spartan. Come by mwtroflex one day and do one of our workouts with us. 5mon
  •   f_benavides For sure--a very successful ultra runner (Nickademus Hollon) ran the Toughest mudder and "DNF'd" but he had just came 2nd at "Tour de geants" (200 mile race) in Europe a couple months back--Max King won an obstacle race with a big purse earlier in the year though. 5mon
  •   davidavila26 @f_benavides when are you down here next? Theres a 21k on january 11th. Me and ben are gonna do it 5mon
  •   f_benavides Not sure--the lottery for "Way too cool 50k" starts December 7th if I get in I'm going to focus on that race--I wouldn't mind a 21k as a tune up but I'll get too sucked into the "competitive" side haha 5mon
  •   vky_jay Thank you for the motivation :) 5mon

davidavila26 Mix up the training. 15 thrusters with a log and 15 burpees right after. This was in between rounds of pull ups, kettle bell swings, and running for multiple rounds.
Variety is essential to any training program. Strength and endurance are both critical aspects of fitness that should be trained consistently.
