danrubin Mount Etna, Sicily

Earlier this year, Simone (@brahmino) and I talked about visiting the volcanos of Sicily, and this week we have climbed both Etna and Stromboli along with our friend Rocco (@roccorossitto) for a little project we're calling #twovolcanos

Nothing compares to exploring the world with good people 🏼 Many thanks to @pecoraverde for supporting our exploration #outofthecrowd.

danrubin Last year's workshop at @ashleybaxter's Glasgow Photo Walk was fantastic — a great group of people from around the UK came out for a fun day of shooting and an intro to editing.

Saturday, June 13th, I'm heading back to Glasgow for my next full-day workshop, this time focusing on editing and post-production in Lightroom and iOS/Android apps, following an early morning shoot with the Glasgow Photo Walk.

Tickets and details available at glasgowphotowalk.co.uk, or the link in my profile. See you there!

danrubin Pause // Naples, Italy

I enjoy photographing places without people — it's a personal challenge I set for myself when visiting places usually full of activity, and my feed frequently reflects this.

But I also love people, especially those passing moments no one pays attention to; my favourite type of street photography is where the camera and photographer appear to be invisible, documenting those fleeting aspects of life. I may not share them often, but I'm always trying to capture these moments wherever I go.

  •   kianagoudarzi This way of photographing is very impressing , I have to thank you for your inspiring beautiful pictures. Whenever I take a look at them, they make me feel alivw 2w
  •   aareoff I also try to avoid photographing people as I find it hard to ask them if they mind being in my shot, and if they do agree it then makes the image contrived rather than spontaneous and natural. Great to see others like you doing it though as there's nothing more fascinating than people watching and then capturing in this way. 2w

danrubin Golden Hour, NYC-style.

Spent the last few days around Soho and the East Village on my first trip to NYC in two years — ate some great food, met up with @greg_a, @cestchristine, @annagdickson, @esquareda, saw my work hanging in the @leica_camera store, and stayed at a killer @airbnb with this view on the rooftop.

May have also recorded a new @skillshare class, too...

danrubin Wrangler x Leatherman

Having grown up in the States, Wrangler is one of those iconic brands that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I've worn more pairs of their jeans than I can count. I've had my Leatherman tool for 20 years, a gift from my dad when I was in Boy Scouts. These things are built like a tank.

When they asked to make a short film about my photography — specifically my love of vintage cameras and shooting film — I was thrilled and humbled all at once. The result is a snapshot of my life as a photographer, and a glimpse into part of that life that rarely makes it to Instagram.

danrubin Exciting news! The next Meet The iPhone Photographer event is this Tuesday, April 28th at the Regent Street Apple Store in London at 7pm — register for free on the store's page on Apple's web site.

My guest this month is Brendan Ó Sé (@iphunography), the man behind one of the most iconic shots from Apple's recent 'World Gallery' campaign, so you don't want to miss it.

What's more, our sponsor for this month's event, Knomo (@knomolondon), is giving away £400 worth of their lovely products to one lucky Instagrammer in a quick competition judged by Brendan and yours truly.

To enter, post an image representing the dynamic, urban side of your city, title it 'This Is My City' and tag it #knomoiphoto. Deadline for entries is 23:59 GMT on Tuesday, April 28th.

danrubin I really enjoy seeing people do something they love: Tomorrow, my friends at @wealdhandmade will have a stand at Spitalfields Market selling some of their lovely hand-made leather goods — bags, iPad sleeves, even business card holders.

If you're in the area, head over and check them out — and if you're not in London, you can always check them out online: http://wealdhandmade.co.uk

danrubin Looking out from Castel Sant'Elmo over Certosa di San Martino, with the two peaks of Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

Naples is full of layers, just like this image: geology, architecture, history, culture — like a complex and carefully constructed cake, with something new appearing around every corner waiting to be discovered.

danrubin I'm visiting Naples this weekend for the first time, and I may have found my future home…

Much of Napoli feels like it's been placed here from another era; everywhere you look is another postcard view. Passed these boats while strolling along the Lungomare (promenade) last night at sunset, looking across the bay toward Sorrento.

Dear Napoli, I will most certainly be back again, and soon.

  •   bridgetabroad I certainly echo your perspective on Naples. To me, Napoli is like a misunderstood child, visiting the city is like walking through a Giuseppe Tornatore film, that's how I remembered it... 4w

danrubin Arriving at the picturesque town of San Gimignano, we were greeted by this clothesline against a perfect blue sky. Determining the decade of this scene would be nearly impossible if I didn't tell you I captured it a few months ago…

The series of photos I've shared this week was inspired by the work of legendary photographer Slim Aarons, in partnership with @exclusiveresrts, @leica_camera, and @townandcountrymag.

danrubin You can't always plan ahead when weather is involved. That's what makes this shot such a fun story for me: the setting sun was about to disappear behind some buildings on the opposite bank of the Seine, and had been hiding behind clouds while we waited for people to move from the background of this scene.

What I wanted was direct sunlight, so it would feel like a Parisian summer, rather than late-February, but I didn't think it was going to happen... and then we got 30-seconds of direct sunlight, with no people walking by — enough time for me to get a few shots on my M3, the M (Typ 240), and my iPhone — before the sun sank behind the buildings and the moment had passed.

The series of photos I'm sharing this week was inspired by the work of legendary photographer Slim Aarons, in partnership with @exclusiveresrts, @leica_camera, and @townandcountrymag.

This shot was inspired by Slim's portrait of Dolores Guinness — if you think you've got what it takes to Shoot Like Slim, visit http://budurl.com/ha4l or post a photo inspired by one of Slim Aarons' iconic images and tag it with #BeACollector along with all three of the accounts listed above for a chance to win a 5-night villa vacation with Exclusive Resorts, a Leica Camera, and a photo gallery of your work on Town and Country's website.
