courtneysnowden Mother Nature is putting on a pretty impressive show here in upstate New York. Thunder and lighting and giant, heavy buckets of rain for hours and hours. I'd forgotten how awesome storms are back east...we don't get these downpours in the deserts of Utah. Ba da ba ba ba...I'm lovin it. 18h

courtneysnowden My parents house is filled with things that have a story to tell. Cherished pieces, collected from times gone by. Chances are that if you "listen" carefully enough, those pieces will undoubtedly have a story they're just dying to share. #antiquelove 1d

courtneysnowden After a 3 hour dinner reminiscing about boys we had ridiculous crushes on, crazy teachers who most likely had bottles of bourbon stashed in their desks, flipping through the yearbook and dy-ing at everyones big 80's hair...the restaurant turned off the background music and turned up the (once dim) lights, trying to subtly give us a hint that it was very much closing time! Dinner with high school friends 20+ years after graduation, was hysterically and absolutely unforgettably awesome! 3d

courtneysnowden When you spend the day cleaning and organizing at your 90 year old aunts house, you walk away with "treasures" galore. Original oil paintings, a set of teeny, tiny Shakespeare books, her wedding cake topper from 1946, milk glass lamps and vintage galore. Cobwebs and inches of dust aside, old lady stuff is my fave... 4d

courtneysnowden Perhaps I could be enticed into exercising more if this was the path I had to run along. Ducks merrily quacking, people in canoes leisurely rowing by, the blissful sound of gravel crunching under my feet. Hmmmmm...probably not, but it sure is pretty. 5d

courtneysnowden There were big family plans set for today. After a red eye flight, a scheduled 3 1/2 hr layover, an unscheduled delay, and a very unscheduled flight cancellation (curses JFK airport) I told my family to go ahead without me. I begged and pleaded and made it by the skin of my teeth, running through the terminal (not cute) onto a flight to an airport over an hour away from my parents' house. Sans luggage or a ride, mind you. The airline paid for my taxi, and after an extremely awkward (and somewhat frightening) hour and 1/2 taxi ride in silence... I made it "home." My family is off on their excursion, so I'll just sit here, on the steps, all by myself, like a little lost kitten, and wait...cue violins.

courtneysnowden When I told Will I found some awesome "vintage" {because vintage sounds way hipper than old} chairs in the classifieds, he gave me the side-eye. As we pulled into the sellers driveway, he gave me the side-eye yet again. Then as we were loading the chairs into our car, he side-eyed me one final time, but added a whispered "these are hideous, they are old lady chairs" And then I smugly thought to myself... "Perfect, exactly the look I was going for!" #winning 2w

courtneysnowden You know when you get the feeling that someone is totally looking at you? Well I was feelin it, looked up and this little thing had its nose pressed up against the window completely checking me out! It was soooo crazy! We had a 45 second staring contest, then right as I moved to grab my phone, she was like "Peace, I'm out." 2w

courtneysnowden This awesomely nostalgic swing at my parents cabin reminded me of an article I read in the NY times. It was about how over the past decade, playgrounds across the country have been torn down and replaced with "safety-first" equipment. No tall monkey bars or jungle gyms, slides that aren't higher than 6 ft, no swings and loads and loads of shock resistant chips. Chips so thick that the kids can hardly walk, let alone run (I also realize this has a lot to do with the fact that we have become a very sue happy nation). It resonated with me because as a parent, I obviously want to keep my children safe...but at what cost? The article said that by having this "bubble-wrap" mentality, we're really not helping our kids. That encountering "healthy" risks and overcoming fears while playing actually helps in a child's development. Are we stifling our kids and instilling fears and phobias in them by being ultra cautious, scaredy cat, helicopter parents?#wherehavealltheseesawsgone 2w
  •   courtneysnowden @julielavin so magical! 2w
  •   courtneysnowden @myanaloglife the reason I made the bike reference was because in this particular article they were saying that swings, jungle gyms and monkey bars were being omitted from parks because kids had broken bones on them. They were now considered too dangerous to be included in playgrounds. This old swing just triggered a thought. I certainly don't think that rickety, rusty play equipment should be left in parks. Parks absolutely need to be updated and secure. But..to quote the article "even if children do suffer fewer injuries (and the evidence for that is debatable) the critics say that these safety-first playgrounds may stunt emotional development, leaving children with anxieties and fears that are ultimately worse than a broken bone." And no offense taken, if we all thought exactly the same, the world would be a very boring place. 2w
  •   hgefrom 2w
  •   lindspete13 Love this swing! And dems littles! 2w
  •   watkinsteam I couldn't agree more. This world is a changin. And I don't like it one bit. 2w
  •   sherryyoung14 @courtneysnowden they had their share of bumps and bruises and Melissa and mike broke bones but considering all the sports they played especially steve we can't complain. Great to have active kids. 2w
  •   iamahoneybee They'll never know what it's like to burn their legs on metal slides. Oh that was the best. 2w

(You know ... ) Day 1, I biked for 25 mins around the lake. The only reason I made it home was because it was almost 10 pm, pitch dark, I was alone and too scared to stop peddling! Tomorrow is day two. I'll be putting.a dollar in the jar. 3w
