cookiesncandies I wonder how many people have walked down this pathway in the last thousand years seeing that's how old this cathedral is. 12h

cookiesncandies A glimpse of the slower paced life in a medieval city. I realise that I'm starting to sound like a representative from the Winchester Tourism Board 🤐 2d

cookiesncandies A friend and I frequently go for walks. It's an English tradition that we've adopted early on. Living in a beautifully preserved medieval city which still has remnants of its past is akin to stepping back in time.
Check out the 750 year old tower that sticks out which was once part of the palace or the centuries old kitchen which is now a store. There are footprints of the past that was left behind by the early inhabitants of Winchester which was once the first capital of England.

cookiesncandies The weather forecast this week: it's spring . No...wait a minute, it's winter 🌨🌬⛈. And I thought I'm temperamental 🤔 3d

cookiesncandies Cheyney Court with its striking timber frame was built in the mid 15th century right by the King's Gate as one enters into the Cathedral grounds. Come spring, wisteria will blossom over the stone arch above the centuries old wooden doors. It was used as the Bishop of Winchester's courthouse up until the 19th century.
It was also the first time I've ever seen this corner of Cheyney Court without its massive rubbish bin. The removal of the bin was done covertly by a couple of very dedicated Instagrammers. You know who you are.....

cookiesncandies I gave @sucretales and @__yxlisa, two fellow Kiwis a quick tour around Winchester on a freezing cold day. The wind was so strong that we gave up sightseeing and celebrated Chinese New Year early instead by stuffing our faces silly during an all night 火鍋 hotpot session. #latergram
Wishing all those who're celebrating a Happy Chinese New Year (Year of the Monkey)! 新年快乐

cookiesncandies The current weather condition outside - showers, grey skies and gloomy. A sign that I've been properly British-fied. I talk about the weather 🌥🌧🌦🌤⛈🌬☂ incessantly. 5d

cookiesncandies Aha! A modern car in Notting Hill. Not a vintage . This one's for @siobhaise. I'm trying to convince her that sleek and contemporary automobiles that purr like are Instagrammable. Oh wait...I forgot the hashtag #soloparking. 🤓 6d

cookiesncandies As a general rule, I don't ever post anything pink unless it's to do with cherry blossoms cos pink things and I don't go well together. Since this mews has appeared in my favorite movie, Love Actually, I'm going to break my rule. Just this once. 6d

cookiesncandies A friend of mine got chatting to an elderly neighbour of hers who'd lived on Canon Street since he was a wee lad. He told her stories of how it was once a red light district where prostitutes plied their wares on the narrow street.
The boys from Winchester College were banned from taking the shortcut via Canon St up until the 80s. The Green Man pub on the other end of the street had frosted windows above eye level to stop young 'uns from peeping in when the topless shows were on. These days, the area is so gentrified that properties cost a fortune around here.

cookiesncandies I'm rather bummed that I missed the filming of The Crown, the most expensive TV series ever produced in England. Friends of mine told me how exciting it was to see College St and Kingsgate St being transformed into an explosion scene. The windows were boarded up too. Those who live nearby mentioned the number of times the street has been used as a backdrop in major movie and TV series. 1w

cookiesncandies Our interpretation of 5 a day - (lots of) meat, Coke (there's a slice of lime), fries (it's a type of vegetable), ️ coffee (the bean is the seed of a fruit. So there) and garnish (well, it's green, innit?). That was seriously THE best beef short ribs I've ever tasted. . 1w

cookiesncandies The Royal Oak Passage, a dark cobbled medieval alley that's purportedly haunted, thanks to Sir Oliver Cromwell and his cronies who enjoyed blowing up things and people. Believe it or not, this was my first time walking down the length of this narrow alley. I guess 3 loud and excitable Instagrammers managed to scare any potential ghosts away. 1w

cookiesncandies I'm often asked what is it like to live in Winchester. Yes, it's very very very old. Like Iron Age old. It's only recently that I'm seeing more of an international crowd forming in an otherwise homogenous city. Funnily enough, I feel more at home here than anywhere else I've lived in. 1w

cookiesncandies Here are my tips on "How to host out-of-town travel Instagram friends". 1. their race against time to photograph every picturesque spot begins the minute they get off the train. It's all about lighting, guys.
2. be prepared to show your ass in the middle of their shots or do tons of #strideby until they've nailed that photo.
3. caffeinate yourself so you're alert at all times. You'll be asked to "take me to this place. Remember that photo you took xx months ago? Remember??!!!" 4. feed and pump caffeine into your friends so that they have enough energy to climb gazillion steps up and down the hills and tower.
5. Google your city the night before so that you appear properly smart and professor-ish as you recite historical facts.

@angrybaker and @snowflakesfairy it was a hoot spending the day with you two. Let's do it again soon.
