cookiesncandies Recently, I've been told (rather affectionately) that my expressionless 😑 and brutally honest self is very similar to Jessica Huang, a character from Fresh Off the Boat @freshofftheboatabc.
Well, the way I see it........if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it IS a duck so why call it anything else, right?? Right??! I'm now left wondering 🤔 whether it's a compliment or an insult. Hmm.....

cookiesncandies We're so desperate for a smidgeon of vitamin D that we'll sit outside in the freezing cold just because there's a hint of sunshine. #onlyinengland. Actually, let me correct this #onlyinNorthernEurope 3d
  •   secretmaggiemay So true! X 1d
  •   cookiesncandies @could.i.live.here I've heard a lot about the weather in Seattle. Is it as bad as over here in the UK? 15h
  •   cookiesncandies @mummyboar apparently there's going to be a heatwave. I won't be surprised if they call 15 seh a heatwave!! 15h
  •   could.i.live.here @cookiesncandies it's usually pretty grey and rainy from October - May/June, but the temperatures are mild and it rarely snows. And the summers are perfect: warm, no humidity, and you're surrounded by water! I don't even mind the rain that keeps everything green. 7h

cookiesncandies 21st century problems:

1. People have more clothes than ever but still have nothing to wear.
2. Plus size was once standard size.
3. When telephones were once used to make calls. Period.
4. You need physio for your thumbs and shoulders due to OOS (occupational overuse syndrome)
5. You Google everything even when you're in a store but need to check if you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
6. You shop with your fingers rather than your legs.
7. You know your delivery drivers better than your neighbors.
8. You share about everything. Blog about your outfits, tweet your inner thoughts, gram your meals, Facebook your child prodigies and Snapchat your daily life.
9. The existence of helicopter parents. Previously, we were all raised "free range." Just like chickens that found their own worms.
10. We were once hungry because of lack of food but are now hungry because we're dieting.

cookiesncandies The most used phrase in England during a conversation - "Do you know what I mean?" I've just figured out that it's a rhetorical question. Apparently, I'm not required to nod furiously or exclaim "YES!" 6d

cookiesncandies My dresses and shorts have permanent creases in them. Nope. I'm not kidding. Hmm...when was the last time I discarded my winter clothes?? 🤔 Speaking of the weather....don't you think I'm getting better at making small talks? #letskeeptalkingabouttheweather. I'm properly Englishfied 🏻 1w

cookiesncandies I have inadvertently rendered my non Kiwi friends speechless with my choice of words. So today, I thought it may be a good idea to have a "How to speak and understand Kiwi 101 post." Far out!! Use this when something blows your mind.
Flat white
We invented this, not the Aussies

Sweet as
Nothing to do with ass. We're just too lazy to say the rest. Use this often instead of cool.
Choice!
A one syllable version of awesome.
Good as gold
The older folks say this but....just don't.
Tim tam
A revolutionary chocolate biscuit that can be found in every Kiwi's pantry

Dairy
The dairy industry is our pride and joy so we decided to call our convenience stores and superettes, dairy. Cows unite!

Ta
When you can't be arsed to say thank you cos it's a mouthful.

Wop-wops
That's what we call "in the middle of nowhere." When we tell you that you live in the wop-wops, we're being mildly insulting.
Ay?
Used at the end of a sentence to change it into a question. You speak Kiwi now, ay?

cookiesncandies I've finally figured out how to make small talks. You say a lot about nothing. And if you're a Kiwi of Asian descent, it's a double whammy because culturally, you're so direct that you suck at making small talks.
Checkout lady: lovely weather, isn't it? We've had rain for days now. It'll be a relief to get a bit of sunshine.

Me: um....yes.
Checkout lady: it's been dreadful. Just dreadful.

Me: can I have a 5p bag?

Checkout lady: yes, certainly. Well, let's hope the weather gets better soon. Otherwise, we won't get much of a summer....blah blah blah blah.... Me: 🤐

cookiesncandies Who knew corn cakes and sriracha hollandaise combo would taste this good?! Creative and tasty recipes using simple ingredients. This is starting to sound like a jingle in an advert.
A good friend is someone who doesn't mind being a contortionist, eats her meal cold, forced to model her hands in a shot, and understands the importance of getting a table by the window for "good natural lighting." Thank you, @onlinestylist

cookiesncandies Absolutely blown away by all the participants' enthusiasm and eagerness to learn at yesterday's Instagram workshop with @herostockbridge. Thank you for coming such a long way just to attend the workshop. A last minute scramble before hopping on the train to London. 1w
  •   midoricole Ah I love sarawak laksa and was just complaining to my fiance that I can't find it in the UK. I do live here for a few months now. 5d
  •   cookiesncandies @midoricole I have packets of Sarawak laksa spices in my pantry. Very typical of a Sarawakian. Let's meet up for a coffee if you're around. 5d
  •   midoricole Ah that would be great! I look forward to it. 5d
  •   cookiesncandies @midoricole fantastic! When's a good time for you? 5d

cookiesncandies That crazy freezing and windy "spring" day when @onlinestylist and I attempted to have a picnic by the clifftop while battling hungry seagulls and frisky dogs. I saw the weather forecast for the upcoming week. Yes, 11 degree Celsius 😑. Any future picnics will be held indoors. 2w

cookiesncandies You know you got a good thing going with a friend when you screech at her to NOT EAT the cake, she immediately freezes and totally gets you. In fact, she even carries cherry blossoms around in a bag just in case you need them for food pics.
Taking a bite of that matcha strawberry shortcake was akin to eating a very tasty fluffy cloud ️. The matcha gateau was equally divine.

cookiesncandies After nearly a decade of obsessing over Hermes and Isabel Marant on the Purse Forum, an online friend of mine from France and I finally met. Yes, we're very sane and semi-rational women albeit fashion and handbag crazy.

cookiesncandies I've been asked on numerous occasions why I chose to name my blog and Instagram account cookiesncandies. The truth is I'm not a fan of cookies and I'm allergic to candies. Yeah. I know. Weird 😶. My advice is never EVER choose a name for your website or any social media handle at 2am in the morning when you're hungry and delirious. It should've been coffeeNhandbags. Or DumplingsNroastduck. Oh well. Live and learn 😑. 2w
