cmartphoto I'm celebrating a decade in #NYC today. I remember when I first moved here I thought I wouldn't last more than a month. Moving to the biggest city in the world and not having a single friend is scary, but also understanding that everyday is an adventure makes every second exciting at the same time. Not ever knowing what's around the next corner, who your going to meet or cross paths with. That's one of the most amazing things about this place. The city is always evolving. People and places come and go and your surroundings are constantly in flux. In a flash your life can completely change. Either for good or for the bad and it's hard to be prepared for it. The good stuff that happens to you always makes the bad, not so bad and the bad stuff that happens usually makes the good stuff straight disappear. It's a harsh reality but such is life. New York always seemed to me like a place you tried to conquer. But for most of us it's a life preserver that we are clinging onto to call home. I have met a lot of great people here, some of them I even call my family. To all of you, you know who you are, I love you. I have had a lot of amazing experiences here and been fortunate enough to travel and leave this city and be super hyped to come back to it. Today I think back at the gnar of the last ten years.. Working multiple jobs to get my college degree, 2 internal fixation surgeries to my arms, numerous other broken bones, multiple failed business ventures, Losing friends and family members, getting robbed on multiple levels, getting taken advantage of, losing clients and jobs because ppl threw me under the bus and not having the ability to change things that I know are not right and just except them. This list goes on but who really cares we all struggle, right? Some days it's hard to stay positive but you always have to look at the good to over shadow the bullshit and to understand how to honestly separate the two. The sun will always rise and its up to you to see the light.. (continued in next comment) 3w
  •   cmartphoto now remember all the amazing things that have happened to me here. I got a degree and graduated almost debt free, all the amazing people I met and all the jobs I was fortunate to have so I could pay rent, being asked to go on tour with my all time favorite skate team, a bunch of solo and group art/photo shows, working with a bunch of skateboarders and contribute to Step Dad Mag and TWS, going on trips with AZ iced tea, getting hired to shoot and travel with some amazing companies. Having encounters with celebrities at the most random times, working with Christies and skateboarding with multi million dollar paintings, Hanging at street league with the homies, closing down Nasdaq, having the ability to welcome people from all over the world into my home in BK and having plenty of room for them to stay as long as they need. Exploring upstate and the beaches of NY, exploring all the Boroughs , museums and abandoned places. To be only a 40 min plane ride to my home state of Maine to see my family and being a Dad to my son Tommy and so much more... I have lost a lot but I have certainly gained a lot more. Thanks NYC for kicking me in the face and then offering to lend a hand to help me back up. You have made me the man I am today and I appreciate it. Not sure how long I will stay here but I'm very grateful for how long I have been able to stay and for that I will love you forever. 3w
