chuckccc Since buying back all their stock & going private, J. Crew has accomplished a brand re-position to be envied; it has emerged as a lifestyle brand that mixes an urban lifestyle with super chic tailoring & accessories. Take their FW15 collection, included in the sharp suit separates, rich in fabric like tweed, there's a collaboration with New Balance for hip new sneakers, while coats & pants were generally slick & streamlined, perfect for city dwellers to dress up or down to their hearts content. 1w

chuckccc Herringbone & chunky checks gave Ovadia & Sons' latest collections a 50s vibe while urban elements like knit caps, hoodies, & zippers brought the collection definitively into a more modern & sporty age. The label's take on a fuzzy herringbone trench, complete with an ombre effect sounds terribly entropic, however, it comes off as elegant & chic while a zipped shirt brought athleticism into the collection, which as we know is one of the biggest trends this season, both in menswear & womenswear. 2w

chuckccc Public School is fashion's latest darlings having won not just the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund but also the first American winners of the International Woolmark Prize. Their austere collections got a bit of a lift for FW15, thanks to a personal connection that connect to their own past. The downtown cool kid aesthetic of the 90s was the inspiration, a time when hip hop & urban culture finally started to pervade to the mainstream. This translated into elongated proportions, boxy trousers & plenty of sneakers, from the austere like black w/ white trim to slightly more colorful iterations w/ red trim or lining. The collection was perfectly edited & styled, relying on precise tailoring to achieve a balanced look of chic & street. 2w

chuckccc Zippers, a bit of fur and plenty of olive gave Tim Coppens' signature athletic-inspired sportswear new dimensions. Interestingly, Coppens didn't double down on his signature aesthetic especially since it's been so prevalent this season. Instead, the collection felt decidedly more military with touches of luxury from a fur trimmed bomber to an austere structured topcoat. This is Coppens' time to shine since he's been doing athletic-inspired sportswear for years, even before his launched his eponymous label. 2w

chuckccc Porsche Design's latest collection was slick & sexy, just like the lines of the cars the German company manufactures. Quilted vests & moto-jackets looked streamlined & covetable while a handful of coats, felt more Matrix than modern times. 2w

chuckccc Robert Geller is not the first, nor will he be the last, designer to look to the past for inspiration. In a season where nearly every designer did just that, Geller departed from the flock & looked to a different decade. These weren't clothes of the 1970s: full of glam, flamboyance, and/or frivolity. Instead, these somber pieces were rooted in a time 50 years earlier, in a darker era, full of financial ruin and livelihoods lost, not totally dissimilar to today's world. The result of this melancholy was a collection that heralded much more athleticism, like joggers & hoodies. Loungey pieces looked sexy & sultry while tailoring was soft & mirrored the idea of the mid-to-late 1920s of blending in so as to not look too ostentatious. The richness & vibrance of the hues added a much needed kick to the collection which started to feel dreary. 2w

chuckccc N. Hoolywood's ski-themed collection saw a plethora of very chic outerwear options, kitschy patterned knits, cropped pants & wooly socks. The label, known for their street castings, showcased how to balance norm-core & tailoring for the real men w/ non-model bodies. 2w

chuckccc Perry Ellis has gone through many changes in the past few years. They have a steady business as purveyors of dress shirts & business-wear to the masses, w/ plenty of licensing deals, including fragrances, that bankrolls the very large company. However, the brand has had trouble ratcheting up "Fashion" points. For FW15, the Florida-based company returns to NYFW with a new vision, one that might be right up its alley: comfortable, athletic sporty designs. Lushly fabricated joggers, graphic accessories, and plenty of coats will likely appeal to the masses. 2w

chuckccc Kanye West's first capsule collection for Adidas was jarring in its dystopic aesthetic & awkward bodysuits. However, some of the pieces were quite in line with the biggest trends in menswear from the emphasis on athleticwear as the starting point, shown by the joggers, cinched at the cuff or with a button closure, to some pretty great outerwear, like a muddy anorak. Meanwhile, deconstructed knits, complete w/ holes & raw edges, echoed the dystopian vision that West posited. A collection with Adidas would not be complete w/ a series of trainers that are sure to fly off the shelves, at least more so than the sheer bodysuits. 2w

chuckccc A play on gender was front & center at Duckie Brown's Fall/Winter 2015 collection. Blouses w/ deep V necks or kimono-style shirts in silken fabrics hanging open, draped models bodies while roomy trousers & a bit of military tailoring, w/ its oversized proportion & exaggerated lapel, continued the play on womenswear for men that was all the rage during the European shows a weeks ago. 2w

chuckccc After a side trip to London, DKNY returns to New York to showcase a collection heavily influenced by Brooklyn & the nouveau hippies. Take the shrunken proportions, tapered legs, and cropped pants that were mixed w/ DKNY's usual sporty offerings like graphic knits & cool coats in the label's favorite color: Black. 2w
