chrisluckhardt A group of abandoned high-rise apartments in Detroit are demolished. This sort of feels like an outtake from the cover shoot for Led Zeppelin IV.

chrisluckhardt USAF Fuchu Base is located in the outer regions of Tokyo. Apart from a large communications tower, the base has been completely abandoned since the 1980s. The base is still patrolled by the military, making exploration difficult and dangerous.

chrisluckhardt One of my favourite things to do is photograph Detroit from the rooftop of an abandoned building. Add in the sunrise and it makes for a perfect reason to wake up at 4:30am!

chrisluckhardt This photo of the sunset taken at the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans theme park features some amazing colours. I suppose it makes sense for a theme park to be colourful, but this was a million times more amazing because the sunset was extremely colourful and vivid. Score a point for being in the right place at the right time!

chrisluckhardt Recently, I attempted to photograph star trails near my childhood home (a farm 20km north of Stratford, Canada). What you'll see in this shot is the effect of a little fog on the lens near the tail end of the exposure. It sort of looks cool, but nothing beats those crystal clear skies and weather conditions in the American southwest for star trails photography!

chrisluckhardt I climbed the wooden and rickety Mega Zeph roller coaster at the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans theme park to capture this sunset. When I say I climbed, I mean I literally ran up the coaster! It was an amazing site to see in person!

chrisluckhardt During a quiet afternoon, near the end of the difficult summer of 1995, I stood in this location (close to our family's farm) and finally accepted the reality that my mom was going to lose her battle with cancer. Within a few weeks...she was gone.

Last week I felt compelled to make the 2 hour drive to this location to photograph the night sky. Weather conditions weren't exactly crystal clear, but it gave me a chance to capture a few long exposures, gaze up at the sky, and think about the biggest star of my life that burned out too long ago.
