chopperwelder It's time to dig deep and get motivated to stop being so damn lazy. Yesterday was a east bay hill ride, today was a Longfellow run. Tomorrow...? Who knows! But when OPD calls, I want to be in the best shape, you know, with sharp edges, not with curvy bits 24h

chopperwelder There are many things in this world that don't make sense to me, health care billing, people who wear black socks and sandals, and interpersonal relationships, and how messy they can become. But one thing that has always made sense is ships, and my love for them. I often wish I could hop on one and disappear for a month or two. 1w
  •   chopperwelder So far the have de-commissioned 5 of 12 @velogirl5 I was just on Wikipedia 1w
  •   velogirl5 P. S. Attempting to run both mains and turbines pretty much guarantees blowing something up and being stuck in Unalaska waiting for parts. 1w
  •   chips720 @chopperwelder I'm pretty sure the turbines automatically clutch in after a certain RPM and de-clutch the mains, but getting stuck in Unalaska sounds right. 1w
  •   chips720 @chopperwelder awesome picture, you got it at the perfect time of day. 1w
  •   yellowman1911 @chopperwelder @timmyieronimo I was on that boat for 3 years before I went to station. Loved her and the crew that I served with. The ship was commissioned in '69 and has a long history of kicking ass. To clear up some of your questions: crew of a 150, 28 knots with both turbines, they do clutch in automatically and while I was on it we ran both mains all the time and both turbines all the time with little failures. 1w
  •   timmyieronimo That's my baby up there on blocks, best ship, best crew I was ever part of. Both birds ahead flank, now go turn nub 1w
  •   chopperwelder I really wish I got on a cutter during my time in @yellowman1911 I feel like I missed out on something 7d

chopperwelder Upon several discussions about what to do today, we as a small clan of opposed minded people decided to come to a compromise and go to a flee market for serena and I, then go to alameda beach for Holden. This was good, everybody won, and here is a sweet pic of #Herscheltheboxer getting a gulp of refreshing water from a water fountain. 1w

chopperwelder Bulgogi and kimchi burger from a fancy truck, and a fine San Francisco crafted beer. I know parts of the country is buried under feet of snow, and I'm out here in SF in shorts and a t-shirt just eating under the big beautiful blue sky 2w

chopperwelder I think this was my first eye exam ever, turns out I've got pretty damn good eyes, except for this damn water blister growing on my right eye. I'm going to try to blame work, but who knows... 2w

chopperwelder So much of being a marine engineer is figuring out how to do things with the tools at hand. But there comes a point when what you have isn't enough, so what's a good engineer to do? Make his own tools. 2w

chopperwelder This was my favorite time to live in the mission. The berry blossoms were out, and the whole neighborhood smelt good, like really good. Out here in Oakland, there aren't as many cherry trees, but the ones that are here still tingle my soul a touch 2w
