charlesdharapak Not sure what card game this is but they were playing it most of the 3.5 hour flight from Jakarta to Bangkok. They were very animated, grouped and sequenced the cards, and wrote stuff down between hands. Anyone know what the game is? 1w

charlesdharapak Ten years ago today I became a father. And with that came focus and clarity in my life. And it made me appreciate even more all that my parents did for me. Happy birthday, son. Thanks for being the reason. I love you! Sibley Memorial Hospital. Washington DC 2w

charlesdharapak You never know when you'll have to have that talk with your kids about death. An uncle on their mom's side of the family passed away at 10:30 in the morning and keeping with Muslim tradition the funeral had to be before sundown. It was the first for my 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter (both standing at center) and also the first time they've been to a cemetery. They saw the procession, the covered body lowered into the grave, their relatives' grief, and the prayers offered. I was very proud of how well they handled it. They now regard cemeteries as a peaceful place where families gather to pay respect to a loved one's passing. The roar of a commuter train running past (every 10 minutes) and a vendor pushing an umbrella covered cart on a path between rows of graves offering "Teh Botol" on blocks of ice further demystifyied death for them, showing that it is very much a part of the randomness and chaos of everyday life. I hugged them both a little tighter when we walked back to the car as the sun set. Tanah Kusir cemetery, South Jakarta, Indonesia. 2w

  •   willowbarcelona So very happy for you and your children and for your outstanding career. To see you 3 together after your long journey is the best. Your new work mates are so lucky to have you there in Bangkok. Although I can only imagine how much your DC/WhiteHouse friends and colleagues are missing you--especially wonderful @scottyshots1. Every happy wish for your son's 10th birthday too. If I could send Streeter for some puppy playtime with him, I would. 10 is such a lovely year 2w
