cgranger Within weeks of each other the NOPD suffers yet another loss of officer doing their job. Officer Vernell Brown Jr. died last night, five days after he was struck by a car while assisting a motorist. A memorial flame in front of police headquarters was lit on Saturday morning in his honor. Photo by Chris Granger #rip #vernellbrown #police #neworleans 2w
  •   ami_yaz So saddened by this news this morning. I know the two recruits who were with him that tragic night. My heart goes out to them and his family. 2w

cgranger Don't think for one second there were no brutal hits at today's Running of the Bulls in New Orleans. Dozens of roller derby girls armed with bats(inflatable mind you) hitting runners vs. six bulls. An argument could be made that both are equally dangerous, right? Anyone? One brave runner lies on the ground after being trampled, I mean slapped with a bat, as people run for their lives past him. Photo by Chris Granger #neworleans #runningofthebulls #sanfermin 3w

cgranger I just photographed Garth Brooks before his first of four shows in New Orleans. He surprised us by borrowing someone's LSU hat and putting it on for a few photos. He said he is so looking forward to singing his hit song "Callin Baton Rouge" for each of those nights. Photo by Chris Granger #garthbrooks #lsu #batonrouge #neworleans #music #louisiana 3w

cgranger Working on a Hurricane Katrina ten year anniversary story. Was shocked today to find this scene a decade later. A Christmas decoration, a candy cane, lies on a debris-covered floor in a vacant house where the hole in the roof, top, where people had to escape the flood, is still clearly visible. A disturbing time capsule of a moment in time we'd all like to forget. Photo by Chris Granger #hurricanekatrina #neworleans #louisiana #life #landscape #sad 3w

cgranger During Essence Fest 2015 I had to get in touch with my inner Bill Cunningham. I shot street fashion. If you don't know who Cunningham is look him up. There's a great documentary on him. Harvard dropout who at nearly 90 years old still roams the streets of New York shooting street fashion for the NY Times. He's a machine. I met him years ago in N.Y. during Fashion Week. #essence #essencefest #fashion #urban 4w
  •   jamielynnp @cgranger my favorite part of essence is the people watching mostly due to the fashions. People take it very seriously...which is nice considering that people rarely dress up for anything these days. 4w

cgranger Living along Lake Pontchartrain in a boathouse. No, this marlin wasn't caught in the lake. Wishful thinking. But, these girls have one in their home and it was caught by a relative. •   madelineafox Are we also going to get rid of Robert E Lee Blvd? What about Jackson Square? Maybe just add more girth to the statue and call it (Harry) Lee Circle! ;) 1mon
  •   jmaselli2 And what about that river - the Mississippi River. That's real southern, right. Need to change that, too. Let's call it the Massachusetts River. Happy now? 1mon
