cgranger Ok, so I know we are all tired of Hurricane Katrina anniversary stuff. But please bear with me for this--the one thing I had to share was this piece of paper I found sticking out of the mud by itself and by my feet on a still-flooded street in Lakeview. From the I-can't-make-this-up category--read the name of the title on this sheet of music. It reads, "New Orleans, Man! What a." And, please feel free to fill in the blank...the dried mud is covering it up. My one warped memento from those days. #neworleans #hurricanekatrina #music #earth 5d

cgranger Kate Kane, 4, of Bay St. Louis, looks back at a tree with branches carved into the shape of angels. The tree fell during Hurricane Katrina and was moved closer to the beach and then made into a memorial. Kate and her sister, Grace, and their mom, Allison, recently visited the tree. cgranger I was honored to have the opportunity to shoot a reunion celebrating a 70 year-old iconic photo taken by Times-Picayune photographer Oscar J. Valeton, Sr. the day that World War II ended with Japan's surrender on V-J Day. He captured New Orleanians parading in the St. Roch neighborhood. Several people who were in this original photo gathered again for a parade 70 years later. #neworleans #history #ww2 #peace #wwiimuseum 2w

cgranger If you think the Red Dress Run is just for the humans think again. Meet "Pretty Woman," a 15-year-old mule that came dressed for the occasion on Saturday. She wore her best red skirt and put on some red high heel hoofs while strolling through the French Quarter. #reddress #reddressrun #neworleans #animal #fashion 3w

cgranger The New Orleans Fire Department had a bizarre scene last night. Multiple house fires within blocks of each other. Looked like London during a WWII air raid. Smoke and embers filled the air for a few blocks. Two small fires burn in a vacant lot across the street from where houses were fully involved. #fire #nofd #neworleans #hero 4w

cgranger Within weeks of each other the NOPD suffers yet another loss of officer doing their job. Officer Vernell Brown Jr. died last night, five days after he was struck by a car while assisting a motorist. cgranger Don't think for one second there were no brutal hits at today's Running of the Bulls in New Orleans. Dozens of roller derby girls armed with bats(inflatable mind you) hitting runners vs. six bulls. An argument could be made that both are equally dangerous, right? Anyone? One brave runner lies on the ground after being trampled, I mean slapped with a bat, as people run for their lives past him. Photo by Chris Granger #neworleans #runningofthebulls #sanfermin 2mon

cgranger I just photographed Garth Brooks before his first of four shows in New Orleans. He surprised us by borrowing someone's LSU hat and putting it on for a few photos. cgranger Working on a Hurricane Katrina ten year anniversary story. Was shocked today to find this scene a decade later. A Christmas decoration, a candy cane, lies on a debris-covered floor in a vacant house where the hole in the roof, top, where people had to escape the flood, is still clearly visible. A disturbing time capsule of a moment in time we'd all like to forget. Photo by Chris Granger #hurricanekatrina #neworleans #louisiana #life #landscape #sad 2mon
