cbalke Sunday's sunset at Lower Velma Lake. The reflections on these motionless lakes can make for the best views. This night provided us with the best sunset of the trip. 3w

cbalke Another rough camp spot in Desolation Wilderness. This one was at Lower Velma Lake. The primo spot by the island was already taken but this one worked out really well. I'm ready to go back.. 3w
  •   cbalke @kellymarchant I want to be back there as well but I would gladly take a trip to crater lake as well. That place looks amazing! 3w
  •   cbalke @duhduhduhdallas work hard to play hard right? 3w
  •   cbalke @desolation_hiker for the last several years I thought I had never been to Lower Velma. Turns out I had them mixed up and had never been to Middle Velma. 3w
  •   desolation_hiker Haha! The upper one is the one that gets me lost every time bc it's off trail. How crowded was it? Last time I was there I swear The Yonder String Band camped there, it was a concert, lol!! 3w
  •   duhduhduhdallas @cbalke No truer words. I'm trying to do some backcountry skiing/snowboarding next year. Need to save up! 3w
  •   cbalke @desolation_hiker While following the outlet From Fontanellis to Upper Velma a guy told us there was some granite water slides. We saw them but were not sure how you would stop before careening into rocks. You should check it out sometime. 3w
  •   desolation_hiker Awesome!! I'll have to check that out in the fall, thanks man 3w

cbalke Pano shot of Jim standing atop Dicks Peak (9974 ft.). Great views of the Desolation Wilderness. In this shot Dicks Lake, Fontanillis Lake, Lake Tahoe, and Upper/Middle/Lower Velma lakes can all be seen. We took a direct approach from Dicks lake which provided a ton of rock scrambling to reach the summit. This was the first Summit Register Jim had ever signed. 3w

cbalke Great campsite with a view at Azure Lake. Chipmunks were very curious here climbing inside out backpacks. We had to be vigilant with our food between them and the field mice. 3w

cbalke Early morning granite and cloud reflections on Azure Lake. Don't go here you'll hate it... 3w

cbalke Amazing trip through Desolation Wilderness. 25 + miles, 10,000 + feet of vertical climbed, 8+ (some unnamed) lakes and two peaks bagged. This is what makes this area so great!! Here we are following the light to Azure Lake. 3w
  •   shannbenntt I want to go! 3w
  •   cbalke @jlwxthomas Thank you! 3w
  •   cbalke @shannbenntt I'll trade you for some of your adventures.. Haha. You should make it up there, literally a lifetime of lakes. 3w
  •   cbalke @lake_girl_530 Thanks Kathi!! Whatcha been shooting recently? 3w
  •   lake_girl_530 Hope to be back at it soon. My mom passed away last week. I was in Capitola for almost a month spending time with her. I've been seeing I missed killer clouds & sunsets when I was gone. 3w
  •   cbalke @lake_girl_530 so sorry to hear that. I wish you the best. I'm glad you were able to spend time together. 3w
  •   lake_girl_530 Thanks. Appreciate that. Me too! Seeing everyone's beautiful shots always helps. 3w

cbalke Jim taking it all in. There are some great views around Tahoe, but I have to say that the views from Maggie's South Peak are pretty hard to beat. 4w
  •   cbalke @jewieee what? You've never been? Jeez, and I thought you've been everywhere.. Haha 3w
  •   cbalke @knowlesjustin thanks Justin 3w
  •   cbalke @angelajim25 well you married him 3w
  •   cbalke @aka__jk such a rad spot!! 3w
  •   cbalke @cjvarela I need to get. Better camera and do some night shooting trips with you. There were a couple great nights out there. 3w
  •   cbalke @lane_tay thanks Delani! You should make it up there. The hike not too bad either. 3w
  •   omarymee Great photos! I'd also recommend you check out Rubicon Peak, near South Lake Tahoe. Its a full 360 degree view. Tahoe on one side, Desolation Wilderness on the other! Very breathtaking! 3w

cbalke Pull, check, double check, pack routine. Ever have the feeling you forgot something... 4w
  •   bettyzkid Be safe son. Love you 4w
  •   jena_trin @angelajim25 Lol! I feel the same way! 4w
  •   cbalke @duhduhduhdallas just getting caught up here. We had a blast! Weather was perfect!! 3w
  •   cbalke @bettyzkid thank you, home safe now 3w
  •   cbalke @powderpanda it has a good variety and is not overkill. Glad I've never needed more than some Tylenol and Mike skin. Knock on wood. 3w
  •   powderpanda LoL... I hear ya there!!! I don't think people out enough thought into what is carried/needed. At the last Mt Baker Splitdeat we saw people with Huge packs loaded that would be for multi day.. Total overkill and ya could tell they didn't know how bride with such large packs. Simple and smart!! 3w
  •   cbalke Seriously, after every trip I try and see what I can adjust or remove. But at the same time several of my buddies don't bring a med kit or anything. So it's a balance struggle of both 3w

cbalke I started looking at some photos I took last year and realized I haven't gone out to shoot anything in a while. I can't believe how fast this summer is flying by. With all the weddings, family events, work and everything else it's been a blur. Bay bridge fighting off the fog last September. 1mon

cbalke Yosemite is celebrating it's 150th birthday as a National Park today. I thought I would share one of my favorite vistas. I really wish you could zoom in and wander around this panoramic shot. This was taken in 2012 on a last minute trip with @antik5 2mon

cbalke So many firsts visits on this trip. Great little paddle and swim at Pine Crest today! 2mon
  •   aka__jk Unreal trip you're on 2mon
  •   cbalke @kbeerwith I was eyeing it and really wanted to do it, but I'm saving it for next trip 2mon
  •   cbalke @aka__jk 1600+ miles, 9 days, 5 different hotels, 1 camp site.. It was a great road trip! A little rushed/crammed at times but the fam did pretty good at keeping it together. Best of all we saw a bunch of new stuff and made some great memories. 2mon
  •   dustinb333 Love Pinecrest hike up to Cleo baths water falls. 2mon
  •   kbeerwith @cbalke I attempted it...along with many lol....harder than it looks. Too slippery. 2mon
  •   cbalke @dustinb333 I heard about it but we were only there for 4-5 hours. I need to make it back up there to check it out. 2mon
  •   cbalke @kbeerwith I have to make it now (since you couldn't). Haha 2mon

cbalke Tunnel View. Last and extremely brief stop on the road trip, Yosemite. Bummed about the overcast skies but otherwise the weather was great. Bridalveil falls was mere mist at this point and Yosemite Falls flow was pretty weak as well. 2mon

cbalke Convict Lake is pretty amazing. I really wish I could have stayed longer. I'm already thinking about when I can come back. If you've never gone I highly suggest it. 2mon
  •   cbalke @jewieee $22 a night at Convict Lake campground. Do it, let me know how you like it. 2mon
  •   unseeninmt Sweet spot I've done some split missions at Convict. Way back in Rock Creek is really good too there's a winter shelter you can rent to gain access to the mid winter pow zone! Nice photo 2mon
  •   cbalke @unseeninmt I'm going to have to get some more beta. Hopefully I can make it down this winter for a couple day split mission. Thanks for the heads up on the shelter! 2mon
  •   youre_so_cool_i Convict lake is amazing when it's not windy.. there's a campground for free called glass creek if anyone wants to save a few bucks. It's dry camping but its not far from Convict lake and its pretty legit itself just throwing it out there 2mon
  •   cbalke @youre_so_cool_i thanks, I'll check it out. 2mon
  •   naturestaker Beautiful 2mon
  •   cbalke @naturestaker Thankyou! 2mon
