carrobarrskog Now we're officially heading home to Stockholm after two days in Kalmar with Matilda's grandparents and relatives. It has been SO nice eating swedish food and having egg and caviar for breakfast... We've had so much fun in Europe and seen so much. The two of us are really tired and look forward to seeing our families. In a few minutes our plane leaves from Kalmar so we'll be home really soon. (No more trains for us in a while...) So dear friends that was my eurotrip. Have a nice summer and see you soon!🏽 #2tired4U #nomoreshithappens #stillsalsamaster #matildaisthequeenofhashtags #crazycows 2w

carrobarrskog Day 28: Two days ago we celebrated our last stop before going home. We actually went shopping and we both found a few things! We don't have to carry our findings for too long anymore since Paris is kind of close to Sweden... Hehe So I feel awesome about buying those things. We also visited the last thing on our sightseeing list - the arch of triumph. It was really cool. It was some parade there as well and they played some orchestra music! On another note, I might as well add that a large percentage of the trains in the subway system has no driver! They're automatic! Let's just say we were quite suspicious... We ate vietnamese food for dinner, it was really good! We've never tried it before so we were happily surprised! We had a midnight ice cream as well from a place near our hostel. It was convenient guys! You don't have to pay for each scoop, just for the size of your ice cream cup!! So you can have as many flavours as you want!! #megustamucho Day 29: Yesterday we went up hella early - 5:50!!!! to catch the train from Paris to Hamburg. Hamburg is our last stop before Sweden! It's going to be so nice to come home! We spent the whole day on the train and came to the hostel in the evening. We ate dinner with four really nice guys from Switzerland and afterwards we played some cards with them. Really nice, fun and polite guys! Right now we're on the train station and we went up ridiculously early to catch a train, which we missed... Luckily a new one to Copenhagen leaves every 2 hours so we'll be fine. We're going to visit Matilda's grandparents in southern of Sweden before going back to Stockholm so if everything goes as planned we'll be there tonight.️ Right now we're both super tired and I've completely lost my voice... Well, that kind of sucks since you all probably know I talk quite a bit... #shithappens 2w

carrobarrskog Day 26: Two days ago we just went from Madrid to Paris. Nothing really happened.️ Day 27: Yesterday we went sightseeing all day, we met this really nice californian girl from our hostel that we spent the day with. We saw the eiffel tower, lots of statues and the Louvre. As well we went out in the evening in order to see the thirty minutes long firework show in honour of the Bastille day. It was magical! After the show we met up with two american guys we met in Venice that are here right now as well. After we split up, about 1 am we managed to squeeze into the metro after four tries. Everyone had been out watching the fireworks so the station was packed! And with packed, I mean PACKED!! I've never seen something quite like it. That would never happen in Stockholm. When we finally arrived at our station there was a kind of outside dance party, people were dancing so we stopped there for a bit. Then we came home and went straight to bed. 2w

carrobarrskog Day 25: Today wasn't too intriguing. We set an alarm so that we would manage to come up and eat the hostel's free breakfast. After breakfast we went straight back to bed since we had only slept for about three hours last night. By noon we went out and ate lunch. We had the most enormous paella I've ever eaten. It was huge!! And expensive...😐 Haha, but quite good. Then we walked around town a bit and decided that we would go to bed early tonight since we're leaving for Paris tomorrow! Hahaha, well, that's what we thought. We went to the train station a few hours ago in order to reserve seats (we don't want to get stranded somewhere weird ever again...) so there we were. The only thing was, we had to wait for over two hours!! It's a long story, therefore we just came home about half an hour ago. Waiting that long is ridiculous! Oh right, earlier today Matilda had cravings for chocolate, which we bought for her. However it melted before we came home and now it just won't harden enough to eat... I guess we'll have to find a fridge at the next hostel. Matilda was devastated! No new pictures from today either, this is an old one from Sirmione, Italy. 3w

carrobarrskog Day 24: Yesterday we took the train to Madrid. We barely made it! The train seriously left one minute after we went on it! We ran like crazy from the ticket desk to the train. That was an achievement! #yaas 🏻 Then when we came here we passed out on our beds. Yesterday night we went to one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Kapital. It seriously has seven floors! It was crazy! We had lots of fun and went to bed late.️ As well we met some really awesome people. We met two brits from Manchester, one guy from Germany, one guy from Estonia, two finish girls in our age (for once!). We also discovered that we shared dorm with two swedes. They were in their thirties. They were super nice! Especially the woman, she was so kind and caring!️ She gave us life advice and stuff! Also we met another swede during the evening and he and I spoke a bit. This was seriously the first persons we've met on this whole trip that's not from Australia or US. I have no photos from yesterday so therefore I'm sharing a little dance Matilda made up while in Valencia. Haha, that is one craycray girl!#crazycow #beyoncetwo #salsamaster #carolineisthequeenofhashtags 🏻 3w

carrobarrskog Day 23: Yesterday we didn't do much. We had a relaxing day. Therefore this is a picture from two days ago, we found this really lovely flowery bridge! We went to the park and read a little in our books, then it got too warm and we got invaded by bugs so we went home. We were so tired so both of us passed out on our beds. Matilda woke up earlier than me that afternoon and she was all like; "Let's do something!" and I was like "Please no, I'm so tired!" In the evening we ate tapas with a new friend of ours from Australia, Kat. She was our roommate as well. She is so sweet! Then when we came back we had lots of fun with all of our eight roommates and we went to bed late.🏽 That's about it! 3w

carrobarrskog Day 22: Yesterday just wasn't my day. We rented bikes so that we could explore the park. It was so nice not to walk! The park in Valencia is HUGE! 9 km to be exact. We went to one end of the park to see some cool buildings. The architecture in Valencia is really advanced and I love it! Just look at the building in the back of my fabulous posing! Well, that was the good part of the day but as I said, yesterday just wasn't my day... First I got a flat tire - in the wrong end of the park! Like really?! So I had to walk with my bike back. That took a while to say the least.😑 And it didn't end there. As well I fell off my bike, somehow I managed to land on my feet, but still. Then when I was about to lock my bike I took one step back, and guess what? It was a big mud puddle there which I of course stepped in! And then when I dragged my foot up my flip flop broke. So then I had to wash my feet and mend my flip flop back together. So yeah, that was my day yesterday. I feel like someone's trying to tell me something... But oh well, as Matilda has said too many times to me on this trip; shit happens, then you die. #deep #shithappensthenyougetadog #crazycows #2cool4u #gotchasedfromthatfountainbyaguyinagolfcar #matildaisthequeenofhashtags 3w

carrobarrskog Day 21: Today we went from Barcelona to Valencia. Matilda wanted to add that we were super sweaty by then too. Then we went to the beach which was ridiculously far away, so after walking a third we took the tram. The beach wasn't too nice, the sand was too fine so it stuck all over you. I'm not one to complain, but well, it wasn't too good. Then we took the tram home, took a picture with this castle and went to a supermarket which took quite a while to find! They were just about to close and we forgot the water which we realized after walking 20 meters. So I ran back like crazy and yelled from the other side of the door; our water! But those douches said we hadn't paid for it!! So we didn't get it...😟 Since we didn't finish our shopping we didn't get pasta for our dinner. Right now we're just finishing up our egg and tuna dinner at 11:30 pm.️ Well, that's today! Have a nice evening everybody! 3w

carrobarrskog Day 20: Yesterday we went sightseeing, yes you read that correctly, we walked. #savingonthemetrocard We went to La Sagrada Familia, among others (picture). To lunch we ate seafood paella which was one of the best I've eaten.️ On the way home we were seriously two blocks away from our hostel and we were like, oh shit, we've walked in the wrong direction! Haha, one hour later we're on exactly the same place again and realized that we were on the right block in the first place. So yeah, well, yesterday we were quite lost... Did I mention that we walked over 30000+ steps yesterday? No? Let's just say we skipped our running yesterday... When we came home we went (aka walked) to the beach which was about 7 pm. On the way we bought one smoothie each from a street market, it was the best smoothies we've ever had! We ate late dinner and met up with a swedish friend of mine which was a lot of fun, on the way home we were like: we're so tired! Let's take the metro home. But apparently they close in this country so we had to walk home. Woop woop!🏻 However, it's a new day now with new adventures! Today we're moving on to Valencia! ¡Hasta pronto! 3w

carrobarrskog Day 19: We started the day with sleeping in which was lovely! We prepared for the beach sincerely with our spf 50+ sunscreen... Since we didn't have anything to eat for breakfast we went to La Rambla which is nearby our hostel and found a supermarket. There we bought our fabulous 12 pm "breakfast". Then we went straight to the beach in Barceloneta and ate it there. We spent the whole day at the beach and it was so nice to just relax for a bit.️ Matilda has been working on her catcalling/whisteling at people but with no success. She bitterly realized that you just yell "guapo" (handsome/good looking) at cute boys here. Haha. She should have some cred for her determination though.🏻 For dinner we ate our beloved tapas, finally. It was Matilda's first real tapas and she was quite hungry, so therefore her cute face... From the restaurant we saw this jazz dancing thingy so after dinner we were like: Yeah! Let's go there and join them!! It was the weirdest thing, because when we came closer we heard that they played some swedish old school jazz music. Well, we joined and after a while we were like; shit, everyone is really good. So we spoke with this older man that were taking pictures and apparently also a manager over this thingy. He told us that this was a swing dance school and all the participants had been taking classes for at least 6 months... So there we were in the middle of the professional swing dancers doing some bug we've learned in school.🏽 However, this old man was really cute and taught us the basic moves in swing. Since he danced with Matilda and I stood beside them trying to do the moves alone, this older greek man in his 50s came up to me and wanted to learn the dance himself with me as his dance partner. Haha. So there we were the four of us trying this new thing out.🏽 It was lots of fun! I also realized that I really want to be good at dancing these old school dances that you do in pairs. Because it looked so darn cool!!🏽 As well Matilda's face now matches her booty, bright pink...️ ¡Goodnight amigos! 3w

carrobarrskog Day 18: This morning started up kind of strange. At least for Matilda. I had the strangest dream so I accidently hit her on her ribcage, kind of hard... She wasn't too pleased... Wups! For breakfast we ate mango and milk chocolate leftovers since we had to pay for both the hostel and the hotel yesterday (expensiveeee😟). Then we went to the train station and missed the train to Barcelona with like five minutes, so we had to wait three hours for the next one. However, when we went to reserve seats the interrail seats were all booked. Luckily there was "normal" seats left - but for 90€ each!! We didn't have much choice so that's how this day's money went out the window. I'm still so mad, because you know what? The conductor didn't even check our tickets on the train!! #pissed So for lunch and dinner we bought bread, corn and carrots which costed us 2€ each in order to cut the budget. So no tapas today...😕 With other words - the day didn't start off too well, but now we're out of expensive France and that feels good! We came to our hostel at 7 pm and after our fabulously tasty dinner we went to the beach and exercised. We swam and the water was really nice after a while.️🚣🏼 Tomorrow we'll probably be on the beach all day, bring lunch and eat tapas for dinner. ¡Buenas noches! PS. This is one of the snail pictures from Milan DS. 4w

carrobarrskog Day 17: Today has been a rollercoaster. It have had its ups and downs so to say. We'll take it from the beginning. The day started off with breakfast at the hostel's terrace in the sun which was nice.️ I'm a little tired of nutella as the only thing to put on your breakfast sandwich though... Anyways... During the breakfast we were joined by a turtle... Yes, a turtle!! I have no clue where it came from, but there it was just casually crawling around. It was one fast turtle I must say - and hungry. It ran after everyone's feet so everyone had to lift there feet up while eating breakfast. It tried to eat everyone's shoes all the time. It must've been super hungry. He never gave up that little one!🏻 I tried to give him a cornflake and then a leaf since he seemed desperate enough to eat shoes... That turtle didn't want it though. #classyturtle haha After breakfast we went to old town in Nice, and what a view it was! After that we bought ice cream that was really, really tasty! Have you ever heard about rhubarb ice cream? Or lime ice cream? Not me either! It was delicious though! Then we took the train to go to Barcelona. Well, supposedly France is the only country we've been to this far where you have to reserve seats. We managed to reserve two ridiculously expensive seats for the first train. However, when we came to Montpellier to change and reserve new seats it was fully booked.😟 Next train to Barcelona leaves tomorrow so now we're stranded here. We weren't too keen on sleeping on a bench another night so we found a hotel. It's a bit expensive but it's going to be so nice to sleep in a bed! Right now we're sitting in our room with banana face masks, listening to music and eating chocolate as comfort food. So this day has been both good and bad. Hopefully tomorrow will go as planned. Goodnight! 4w

carrobarrskog Day 16: Well, how should I start? So we barely made it to the train from Milan to Nice. The thing was - if you take the last train, which in this case was 11:20ish pm, you get the worst routes. So basically last night and this morning was spent on four different trains (aka three changes in the middle of the night), so if you add it all together, the trip took over 12 hours...😑 I might add that this trip during the day takes 6ish hours... When we came to our first stop, Torino, at 1 am, we had to wait *cough* a while *cough* since the next train was leaving at 5 am. I mean, YEAY! So we were like, let's sleep on the floor on the train station. HAHA! Well, that's what we thought. Apparently train stations in Torino closes at 1 pm... What an amazing coincidence, right?! So last night we slept/spent on a bench outside the train station until the station opened again at 4 am. Let me tell you - that might have been the most sleepless night in my life! We took turns sleeping and I was awake for the first hour so that Matilda could sleep in case of a murderer/robber/alcoholist/creep came up to us. But you know what? When it was Matildas turn to stay awake that bastard couldn't stay awake so she slept too. (So yes, I'm bitter since I couldn't sleep at all...) Okay, now when you look back at it it's quite funny. We were so tired and sticky of sweat from the previous day. We had the weirdest conversations at 4 am about what a sucky situation we were in. Also this was the one thing my mum absolutely forbid me to do. Before we left she was like: "Caroline, do not EVER sleep on a bench!" I was like: "Well, no I won't. Why do you ask? Have you ever done that mom?" and she answered me: "Yes, I've done that - but you shouldn't do it!". (That double standard on point...) Okay so that was my last night/morning. We came to Nice at 12 pm and immediately went to the beach and took a swim. That was heaven!🚣🏼 We ate dinner at a really expensive french restaurant because we wanted to compensate for the night's happenings. However the lesson is learned and I miss my bed and the small things in life that you usually don't appriciate. (Pic of Matilda 7 am this morning...) 4w

carrobarrskog Day 15: Yesterday we met up with my italian friend, Elisa, which was really nice. Matilda, Elisa and I went to the same ice cream place as we had been to the day before. Still a very delicious and quite sticky experience... After that we went shopping, Elisa and Matilda both found one really pretty dress each and I found three things. The thing is, going shopping while backpacking may not be the smartest thing to do since you have to carry it all around... As well our backpacks are double the size as everyone else's to start with, so this was a particularly stupid thing to do. But oh well, you don't visit Milan too often, do you?🏽 After all this we went to the Expo exhibition with all our fellow australian friends and Elisa too of course! We had lots of fun. The picture is taken in the British pavilion, which has the shape of a beehive. At our way home we were in a hurry because Matilda and I had to catch the latest train from Milan to Nice yesterday evening. We barely managed... Now we're in Nice, though yesterday might have been the stickiest day in my life. I'm going to start appriciate my bed, showers and proper breakfasts more. I'll tell you that much... Last night was quite an experience fellow friends, but that I'll tell you in today's update later.🏽 4w

carrobarrskog Day 14: So yesterday we arrived in Milan at noon. We immediately went to Duomo, the famous church in the middle of Milan and took another fabulous selfie... I was there last year with my italian friend Elisa that lives here, so basically I just showed Matilda around from what I remembered. We went to La Scala too which is nearby. Then we took an ice cream on this fabulous place that Elisa showed me last year. Yummy! Then we walked and walked and walked to this canal that we've been told is really pretty. There we found some enormous statues in different colours in the shape of snails. Of course we were like - let's pose with these! So we got a few fancy shots with those. When I jumped off of it I landed on my knees and hands and scraped them a bit - so clumsy... I misscalculated the height I was jumping from a bit... Then when we came home our hostel had "Canada night". (Since the staff are international and one of them is from there.) We had a free dinner with the canadian theme. We made a few new friends too. We met two australian girls that were really nice as well as an american. We had so much fun!️ Later we played a few drinking games and then two other australians joined us. Those guys were really fun too.🏻🇦🇺 Tonight we're going to the exhibition Expo with all of them and later tonight Matilda and I will take the night train to Nice. Italy check! Ciao! 4w

carrobarrskog Day 13: We started the day with a proper hotel breakfast which was nice. Then we went to the beach fully dressed with our spf 50+ on and lay in the shadow. We're not risking anything! We also got a close encounter with a swan that went up on the beach and casually just strolled around inbetween tourists laying and tanning. When it was like one meter from us Matilda quickly grabbed her towel and ran ten meters away. We've heard that swans are dangerous but this one was one chill swan. We also got an encounter with a little bird. Well, it flew really low and pooped on Matilda's trousers...🏻 Let me tell you, I've laughed at her all day and Matilda has called me a sadist a few times because of that...I don't mind though! It was hilarious... As well we took some bikini pictures (🏻), hehe. Super fancy, isn't it?! After that we went home and had a siesta, later on we went to Sirmione's castle where we also ate dinner. When we came home we ran and now we're eating chocolate cereals in our bed as dessert... #thuglife Ciao! PS. This post was sent from the wi-fi hotspot in our room...the toilet.... 4w
  •   thepickert Did someone already tell you that's your descriptions are amazing?! This bird anecdote made my day and also no clue why you're talking about toilet Wi-Fi 4w
  •   carrobarrskog Oh, I thought I answered you? But I guess I didn't... Well, thank you, there's a few friends now that has said that they're reading it everyday! :P haha, well thanks, I try to include the best parts! @thepickert 4w

carrobarrskog Day 12: The morning was quite uninteresting except for us eating dessert as breakfast at our bed & breakfast, because, "apparently that is what italians do" (quote by Matilda). We got croissants for breakfast... #sounswedish #kulturchock As well we skipped doing the sightseeing in Verona partly because of our feet but also because of our badly burned bodies... It hurts so bad. Therefore we took the train to Desenzano del Garda where we'll stay at a (cheap) hotel(!) in Sirmione for two nights. As well we bought sunscreen with spf 50+ this morning to compensate for our sunburns. We really don't want our skin to peel of after all this work so we've been using body lotion, aloe vera lotion and that sunscreen 24/7 today. #keepingourfingerscrossed Also the weirdest thing happened on the train here. We met our three american friends we made in Venice the other night. What a coincidence! I mean out of all trains and all carts we could've been in we were in the same one. Unfortunately we'll miss the boys in Milan but we'll probably be able to see them in Paris in a few weeks! When we came here we stayed inside after finding the hotel, which took a while (thank god for having orientation on PE) we didn't have a map but we managed anyways...🏻 After a few hours we went on a supermarket hunt, which also took a while. We asked so many people but their descriptions were questionable... We bought lots of things so there'll be plenty of food left for lunch tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and the day after that too. Haha, no but kind of... We ate dinner on the bed since the chairs on the balcony would hurt too much to sit on because of our god damn sunburns... Yeay us!🏻 We've stayed in all night and tomorrow we will probably go to the beach fully dressed and only swim in the lake.🚣🏼 Because that's what you're supposed to do here, I mean, the city is by the water... Now we'll have to go and put on some more body lotion again... Ciao! 1mon
