carly_webber Dancers amaze me. If you told me I could only shoot one specific genre, I'd choose dancers. Hands down. Hopefully later this year I can get back into a studio with the Mamiya and create a dance series. I'm saving my pennies for a @connyvanlint_artist Backdrop and new lights. Then my family might loose me for a few days
Here is Adam @aaaaa8lllll - crazy talented. Studio not required.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit."

"...the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions...”
- Ira Glass.
I remind myself of this #iraglass quote. Often. I'm feeling lost at the moment - full of self doubt and questions. It's discouraging, and kills confidence and creativity. But I have a fridge full of film and a plan to stay off social media until it's finished. I need to make some space to find my own way again.

"If you look for perfection, you'll never be content."
- Leo Tolstoy
There was a time I'd have photoshopped every dust speck, scratch and stray hair from this image. Now I look at my film scans and all of those so called 'imperfections', and I smile because I know that they too are part of the story. They subtly remind me what it is I love about the authenticity of analog.
Like the time a friend and I went out, and I brought along an old dusty Minolta for fun. And then the film rewind leaver broke. And my exposed images were left trapped inside.
Like the feeling of both gratitude and horror, as I watched someone extract and rethread the film canister in an equally filthy lightproof bag.
Like seeing those scuff marks on the scans a month later and reliving that sound of the negs being dragged through that bag. Then laughing at myself for the state of panic I put myself through over this one little roll of film.

carly_webber A little film arrived by courier today from @bhphoto. It took a long time to get here on the DHL shipping option (previously used UPS which got here in 4 days). If you are organised, order early and not in a hurry, it is totally worth the half price cost to use DHL. So excited to get creating this weekend. Should have ordered a roll each of Acros + @cinestillfilm to try. Next time! 3w

'Rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.'
- Lao Tzu

I bought this camera and lens second hand in highschool some twenty years ago. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but back then, to a 15 year old it felt like a fortune. Now days you could pick up this same camera and lens for less than $100. A five dollar roll of film and you have yourself the tools to create magic.
Ask me if I miss my DSLR and $1800 lens?

carly_webber Glorious grain. Trying a different film stock and pushing it in development.

  •   edmundophotography Your feed is stunning, Carly! And I love how you share details about the different analog cameras you use... I'm inspired to do more with my 35mm and medium format cameras, which sit around too much as developing is not quick and affordable here in Norway. Thank you and keep up the spectacular portraits! 1mon
  •   rwgjones_photo @carly_webber Ilford HP5 was the film I learnt to take pictures with. I had a great teacher and was all that he let me use. @edmundophotography why not send your films into a UK lab instead of Norway. The postage is cheap!! 1mon
  •   edmundophotography Thanks @rwgjones_photo for the tip... Any labs you recommend? 1mon

  •   carly_webber Thank you @edmundophotography I really appreciate your kind words. Happy to share any info I can. I'm still learning and trying new things too. I also ship my film from Australia to USA when the local lab shut down. I have been really pleased with the results from America and costs and timing wasn't too much more. 1mon
  •   carly_webber My first time shooting HP5 @rwgjones_photo I probably should have shot it at box speed rather than pushing for the first time. But pleased with the results. Lots more to share soon. 1mon
